Awesome! If you enjoyed Dive Into The Heart, definitely check out Dearly Beloved by Yoko Shimomura. It's the theme song for the entire Kingdom Hearts franchise and one of the most memorable pieces of music in video game history! :)
"Pulls the darkness out of you" is such a great way to describe the music, because it expresses one of the central themes of the game (and on at least some metaphorical level, is what's happening in the scene). The fact that you interpreted this from the music alone, without ever having played the game, demonstrates Yoko's talent.

I am a beginner music composer. Your channel is the best I can take advantage of, including your explanation of music materials and instruments, detailed and wonderful.

This is an orchestral arrangement of the same titled piece from the first Kingdom Hearts game (2002) and it plays at the beginning of the game when the protagonist actually has a dive into his own heart. And during this awakening you had to make choices of what was most important to you. And right as you felt ready. Right as you felt you had every choice just right to open the door, a great obstacle comes before you. And now you have to fight. You need to fight that obstacle. Whether it’s doubt or insecurity or just the darkness you feel lingering inside your heart. And when you finally finish the fight, there’s a moment of recollecting the encounter and understanding your choices. The Destati arrangements are the first thing you hear as soon as you click “New Game” and playing along to the music you feel that intensity and that anxiety. You get those goosebumps and maybe for a moment you think “wow this is real. This is happening right now.”
If you loved this and you want to hear Yoko Shimomura go absolutely ham on the piano I recommend checking out Nachtflugel which she composed for the Secret Episode to the ReMIND DLC to Kingdom Hearts 3.
This artist plays a lot with leit motifs, and this theme is often played in dark, brooding and mysterious places. And the more intense part in more "dire, but glimmers of hope" situations. The theme is also hinted at, or referenced in other songs. For instance important boss fights and such. She is a master at enhancing the mood and game experience!
Ff7 remake is great and other composers have said the tracks are really well produced but what song do you pick? Not all of the songs are fantastic, some are fillers. You have classical tracks that are amazing like Main Theme of FF7 and then you have amazing heavy metal style tracks like The Airbuster. Personally I'd like to see his take on the Airbuster track, which imo is the best version of the "Those who fight further" song.
@@liquidicev I think that's a good pick. I think "Midgar, City of Mako" and "Main Theme - Sector 7 Undercity" are both stunners. Obviously "One Winged Angel Rebirth" would be a fun one.
I’ve just found your channel accidentally via it just being recommended to me and I cannot wait to watch more of your videos because I’m genuinely enthralled by your insight and breakdown of music. I’m a musician myself and have been for the past decade and am a big fan of analyzing music and I’m excited by some of the music I’ve seen on your channel so I can’t wait. This piece is absolutely incredible and as is the rest of the music from the rest of the series it comes from. I think you used the word poignant at one point and that’s a perfect word to describe it. Thanks so much and much love!
I grew up with Kingdom Hearts. The music means so much to me and I absolutely love the religious theme that much of Yoko’s music gives. I don’t think I’ll ever find something like her ever again in my life.
I love the emotion a lot of the pieces provoke especially a lot of the character themes, cause just by listening to the character themes you can hear if its a very light and hopeful character, mélancolie, or a lot of them you can hear and feel tragedy, I grew up on Square Soft/Enix games and the music is always just amazing at bringing out whatever emotion they want you to feel
Wow, I am so glad to have found your channel! This is wonderful! Kingdom Hearts is my favorite game series, a big part of that is because of the love & care put into its music. It would not be the same without it, and the OST has deeply affected my life. This song Destati and all its inceptions are indeed powerful, mysterious and dark. You hear this song in the game as you quite literally "dive into your heart," entering your unconscious mind. It's depicted visually as a sacred, mysterious zone surrounded by black void. The music swells as you greet an otherworldly manifestation of your darkness/shadow. I highly recommend its main theme song by Yoko Shimomura, "Dearly Beloved" which is one of the most 'beloved' soundtracks in all of video game history! :)
You should listen "Hearts as One" from Kingdom Hearts 3. It's a combination of 2 character themes "The Other Promise" and "Vector to the Heavens" and other kh3 themes in the background also. Is amazing how they mix everything and it sounds epic.
You absolutely need to look more into Kingdom Hearts music. Might I suggest the Kingdom Hearts 2 version of Dearly Beloved. But also 2 pieces called "Night of Fate" and also "Tensions Rising"
I'm still here! Love to hear that you take the time with your family and grandbabies. We are insatiable for content, so it's important that you take care of you and your family first. Don't worry -- we'll still be here chomping at the bit for your next reaction. While Kingdom Hearts is arguably an anime in a video game, how about reacting to a video game in an anime? Sword Art Online has an opening song called Crossing Field by LiSa that would make for a great reaction. Hang ten, and aloha.
It's cool to see how pumped up you get experiencing these tracks. It takes me back to when I first heard them while playing these games. If you're looking for videogame OST recommendations then I have to put in the Donkey Kong Country soundtrack composed by the brilliant David Wise. It's even better when you realize he had to find ways to get the entire soundtrack to be only 64kb so that it could fit on the game cartridge!
Feels like my birthday. Geebz has been doing songs from games & anime that I(& others) have been recommending, though I didn't recommend this specific song. Kingdom Hearts is this mash-up of Disney & Square Enix IPs that just somehow works. There is a total of 10 Kingdom Hearts games with 2 in development, there is 3 additional releases that are repackaged/remastered versions of those 10(ie put multiple games on one disc). To put that in perspective, Halo has 16 games in the Halo universe, though only 8 are considered to be part of the main story line. All 3 main entries of the kingdom hearts series have an opening done by Hikaru Utada that are J-Pop & EDM/elctro house (3rd one w/ Skrillex). *Simple & Clean* by Hikaru Utada from Kingdom Hearts 1 *Sanctuary* by Hikaru Utada from Kingdom Hearts 2 *Face My Fears* by Hikaru Utada & Skrillex from Kingdom Hearts 3 Also see: Dearly Beloved II (from KH2) Note each main entry has a Dearly Beloved song
You nail exactly what this track is underscoring in terms of themeing. It plays as you walk through a representation of the main characters heart, learning in a very vague way about the coming threats, choosing the specialities that you want to have and ultimately fighting a representation of the darkness within as a sort of tutorial/story introduction.
Thank you for listening to this version of Dive into the heart (3). The first version has almost always been my favorite and is much more haunting. I appreciate your excellent description and correct emphasis of light and darkness as these are the key points of almost all Kingdom Hearts games: Light vs Dark. This game means very much to me brings joy to my heart and often makes me cry. Tears of sadness and tears of joy of course. May your heart be your guiding key! 🗝️🗝️🗝️❤️❤️❤️
I can't believe I've never seen this channel before. Darkness of the Unknown and Young Xehanort's Dream Drop boss themes are probably my favorite songs in the series, but each song of the OST is so invocative of emotions and goodebumps
You could honestly dedicate an entire channel to KH music and never get sick of it. This franchise is just packed to the brim with insanely good music.
it's so brilliant that w so many of the cold listens you're hitting the emotional themes right on the head. the context within the video-game universe "dive into the heart" being an actual passage into a manifestation of a person's soul to literally fight and exorcise the darkness within them. so the second phase of the song *is* a battle theme. if you liked this track you should listen to some of the boss-fight themes. the bassoon, oboe and organ arrangements are fantastic.
It's amazing the emotion you can glean just from listening. In the Series typically this music is playing when you're confornting a dark version of yourself, so you're close with your thinking :)
My personal recommendation is The Elder Scrolls Online soundtrack, particularly tracks "Moth, Butterfly and Torchbug" or "Yearning for Moonshadow", absolutely beautiful pieces of music
love your reactions! found your channel from this, definitely going to check more from you thanks for making this, hope to see you react to more kingdom hearts music, it's truly magnificent. This one specifically was a song I heard when I was only a child back when it first came out, and to hear it become this beautiful transformation. There's a haunting discussion about this song when they made it, says on the wiki, "The chorus is often used in other pieces, but whenever the chorus was loaded by Square Enix staff, something bad happened, an example being the entire building's electricity getting cut off."
I was entranced by your perspective of this track as a musician and someone who has not played the game. This track is also in Kingdom Hearts 1 which I played when I was 9 years old--it definitely left a lasting impression on me.
Man this brings back memories. I know it's the 3rd games version, but I will always think of that tutorial in the first game with the stainglass reading the text in the air, making decisions, and just confused.
I'm so glad I found you channel! It was such a joy seeing you react and explain this piece. As someone not at all trained in music, it's so fascinating to see the detail you effortlessly pull from a section. I sincerely hope you do at least one more from Kingdom Hearts. It has some of my favorite compositions ever. The KH series is partnered with Disney and Yoko did an incredible job scoring the series to complement a classic Disney feel, while still being completely original. I'd highly recommend: Hikari (Simple and Clean) orchestral version (KH 1 theme) Passion (Sanctuary) orchestral version (KH 2 theme - my favorite) Dearly Beloved - Yoko Shinomura (overall KH theme) With those first two it would be super cool to see something similar to your Zanarkand video where you watch the versions from the game openings first before the orchestral. I would be amazing to see what you think of the iteration changes.
This was beautiful. I played Kingdom Hearts awhile ago but I didn't recall this song being as good as it was. My favorite from the series is, " Hollow Bastion" and "Traverse Town".
This is a bit late but re: language, if I remember correctly yoko shimomura usually uses latin in her choral arrangements (evident in the titles she uses), in contrast to hiroyuki sawano who used to use a mix of german and english earlier on (but now I *think* he's using more english and japanese), or another composer kajiura yuki, who uses a made up language of mashed up latin, english, spanish, japanese, and some others. I would honestly love to see you marathon the kingdom hearts OST since yoko shimomura has this fun thing going wherein she incorporates themes between characters who are related to each other, and it's so fun to listen to.
Hello from France "old composer" :) ! I love your reaction videos! I heard this song for the first time at christmas 2002, I was 12. Yoko Shimomura blew my mind. I never heard another song who define the arrival of darkness as good as this music did. Try different versions of Dearly Beloved (the one from Melody of Memories is more jazzy, made me cry a lot haha)
Found this after my suggestion of Kingdom Hearts... The main series games have some of my favorite game soundtracks of all time. Just hearing the music makes me want to play the game.
After several videos last few weeks, the gaming media generations of x, millennial deserved a guy like you, bringing this all together into youtube. I hope you're enjoying your journey into this journey and assimilation of cultures with us....sincerely
Some of the other ones that I love from her are Vector to the heavens, the other promise, hollow bastion, aqua dark dive, edge of existence and so many more. I’m pretty sure unbreakable chains is by a different composer but same series and it’s amazing.
Another couple of tracks from the Kingdom Hearts series worth checking out are Mystic Moon and Critical Drive from the DS game Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. They're actually variants of the "exploration" and "fight" themes for the final area of Kingdom Hearts 2 (Playstation 2) called Sacred Moon and Deep Drive respectively, but (for narrative reasons) the DS version hits a little bit harder.
Yoko Shimomura is an amazing composer! She and her team do amazing work. I highly suggest listening to her work for Final Fantasy XV. Would personally recommend Somnus, Valse di Fantastica, Blues de Chocobo, Apocalypsis Noctis, Omnis Lacrima, Song of the Stars, Ravus Aeterna, and Hellfire. I know it's a lot, but these are some of my favorite tracks from the game! Honestly, if you decide to give any of them a listen, just pick the one that jumps up at you the most.
Really interesting to see someone without context for the series listen in and pick up on exactly what the song is trying to communicate in those scenes! The KH series has incredible music throughout thanks to Yoko Shimomura-- I also highly recommend the main theme song Dearly Beloved (There's a new version with each entry in the series and any version is great, but the Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3 versions are probably the biggest fan favorites), and Darkness of the Unknown from Kingdom Hearts 2 (my favorite boss fight music in the series). Yoko Shimomura also composed most of the soundtrack for Final Fantasy XV as well-- Omnis Lacrima is her magnum opus IMO (search "Final Fantasy XV/Versus XIII - Omnis Lacrima (Original Ver.)" for the best arrangement of it!) If you stick with this side of the video game world, lots of other Final Fantasy games have amazing soundtracks, too! Nobuo Uematsu's One Winged Angel has probably already been rec'd by a bunch of people here, but I'm also a big fan of the Ending Credits music from Final Fantasy XIII by Mahashi Hamauzu-- it's beautiful and I don't think it gets enough recognition!
I don't know if I teared up listening to this because of nostolgia or if I would have with no prior knowledge 9:00 Listening to just the music itself without the game in this context makes me have so much more appreciation for this. In my head its the idea of the hero journey...and how it might not end okay for them. Letting my imagine take hold whilst listening is...wow idk. The boss music for Final Fantasy 7 gives me that exact same feeling. The, oh no.. we aren't going to make it....but then a little beacon of light comes in and you hear it through the music.
Ever feel like Carmina Burana and specifically O Fortuna is never quite given enough credit for how influential it is on nerd OSTs nearly 92 years after it's debut? You hear it everywhere and it's ALWAYS good. :) We have been blessed with such great modern composers and I love that they still seem pull inspiration from there and make such great new pieces.
Imagine pointy haired characters fighting with/against your childhood Disney characters in a random backdrop of another Disney film. I'm not kidding nor exaggerating 😂 This is the music for the serious moments of such a game.
Hey I love your channel and the commentary you give is really interesting. There's like 5000 songs I'd like to see you react to, but I'm aware that you probably get tons of requests already so if I had to choose just one... but I would LOVE to hear your take on Dancing Mad, composed by Nobuo Uematsu for Final Fantasy VI. It is a rather long piece of music, but it is a classic that deserves a listen and is basically a rite of passage for video game music reaction channels at this point. If you won't do it for a video at least please please please, listen to it in your own time, it is well worth it. There is also an amazing version made by the Black Mages, which is Nobuo Uematsu's actual band, which is also incredibly good.
I hear a little Star Wars Duel of Fates in this track. I always loved this song in the games. It's literally the tutorial level in all the games which is crazy.
As someone who is used to the original composition of this piece, the new little flairs here and there in the Kingdom Hearts 3 rendition feel really unexpected.
"Even in the deepest darkness, there will always be a light to guide you. Believe in the light, and the darkness will never defeat you. Your heart will shine with its power and push the darkness away."
Not sure if you take suggestions from the comments but i think it'd be awesome to see what you think of the theme from Uncharted. Certainly one of my all time favourite video game themes!
I always found it interesting Yoko Shimomura chose to use Italian lyrics instead of Latin for her pieces in Kingdom Hearts. Also, these are actually 2 peices combined into one, the first is "Dive into the Heart - Destati", the second (8:26) is "Fragments of Sorrow". The two go hand-in-hand and are usually combined in this manner.
Just found your channel and love your reaction and review. And love that you are into Heavy Metal (I will check out your other channel). I suggest Redemption by Gackt, FFVII Crises Core. And Liberi Fatali (Final Fantasy VIII) Both for me are very powerful tracks that get the blood pumping.
Thank you 😊 I think you would love this song and I'd love to see you react to it, it's called stickerbush symphony and it's from donkey Kong country 2 ❤️
Any official or orchestral incarnation of Destati is truly my favorite piece of music in the world. Have been obsessed with it since age 7 all the way back in 2001 ever since I begged my parents to buy the soundtrack for me. Lol But yeah, I listen to it at least a few times a month. The only other song that ties for first place with me is One Winged Angel, (Final Fantasy 7)
"These are the notes they use to pull DARKNESS out of you-"
He said the thing.

Destati!
Tendi la mano!
È giunta l'ora,
Destati
Le porte verranno schiuse
Destati, Destati, Destati
Su rimembra tu trepida!
Su sveglia! Ehi ricorda!
Destati! Destati!

Destati! Destati!
È giunta l'ora!
E ancora una volta
Apriranno le porte!
Su rimembra tu trepida!
Su sveglia! Ehi ricorda!
Eh? Come? Non lo vuoi!?
Tuttavia t'appartiene

English translation
Awaken!
Hold out your hand!
The time has come,
Awaken
The doors will be parted
Awaken, Awaken, Awaken
Come on, remember, you who tremble!
Come on, wake up! Oh, remember!
Awaken! Awaken!
Come on, hold out your hand!

You should check out the compositions from nobu uematsu (mainly for the final fantasy games) he has lots of great music.
one winged angel for sure
Just found your channel this morning and I love how much fun you're having with these new anime and video game OSTs. Excited to see what's next!
Your expressions. It's like the sound has enveloped you in these videos. You truly love and feel the music, don't you?
I long for the day were video game music is being taken as an example in art school alongside bach and Beethoven (if it isnt allready that is)
If you loved this and you want to hear Yoko Shimomura go absolutely ham on the piano I recommend checking out Nachtflugel which she composed for the Secret Episode to the ReMIND DLC to Kingdom Hearts 3.
The BIG one from this series to do for you is the Orchestral version of "Simple and Clean"
Also know as "Hikari", btw in case you want to look it up
@@TheIceman101418 Yea.
Would love to see you react to "The 13th Struggle". Kingdom heats 2 - Yoko Shimomura
Final Fantasy 7 Remake has some of the best music I've heard over the last 20 years in video game music.
@@secrettravelclub5486 imo Bombing Mission would be the perfect track to see a reaction from. Its so well done in FF7R
He'll yeah my fav game franchise. I'll be your subscriber forever now :)
I grew up with Kingdom Hearts. The music means so much to me and I absolutely love the religious theme that much of Yoko’s music gives. I don’t think I’ll ever find something like her ever again in my life.
Oh, that reminds me of 'One Winged Angel' in Final Fantasy 7. No doubt you'll get requests for that.
Would lose it if he did a cover of the Advent Children version.
Man when I saw you were doing a KH track I thought it was going to be Dearly Beloved. Really enjoyed the vid though!
6:15 In Poland we call this "gęsia skórka" what means "goose skin" or like you telling "chicken skin" ;)
I noticed that they include Sora’s theme in Hearts as One. It’s the bombastic horn sounds before we go back to The Other Promise.
So glad that your video popped up on my recommended! I came for Kingdom Hearts music, but stayed for your insightful comments. Subbed!
yep same for me haha
I've discovered your channel recently and I've fallen completely in love. Amazing job, keep it up! (sorry if my english is bad hahaha)
*Simple & Clean* by Hikaru Utada from Kingdom Hearts 1
*Sanctuary* by Hikaru Utada from Kingdom Hearts 2
*Face My Fears* by Hikaru Utada & Skrillex from Kingdom Hearts 3
Also see:
Dearly Beloved II (from KH2) Note each main entry has a Dearly Beloved song
You nail exactly what this track is underscoring in terms of themeing. It plays as you walk through a representation of the main characters heart, learning in a very vague way about the coming threats, choosing the specialities that you want to have and ultimately fighting a representation of the darkness within as a sort of tutorial/story introduction.
Thank you for listening to my suggestion! I'm glad you hear you enjoyed the KH OST, fantastic games and music!
Idk if you have reacted to Somnus from Final Fantasy XV but it is a beautiful track, most definitely a must listen.
I love just how often he speaks about dark and darkness. The music pulls so much weight in all of the kingdom hearts games.
Old Composer: "Key change..."
Xehanort: "Have you said χ-blade?!"
love your reactions! found your channel from this, definitely going to check more from you thanks for making this, hope to see you react to more kingdom hearts music, it's truly magnificent.
You are like the sweetest human on earth Geebz. Impossible not to enjoy a video of yours, such a positive vibe!
I’d suggest Hikari from the first kingdom hearts game, great track
Wonderful! Glad I got this in my recommendations! One of my absolute favorites - the series & the muisc!
I'd highly recommend:
Hikari (Simple and Clean) orchestral version (KH 1 theme)
Passion (Sanctuary) orchestral version (KH 2 theme - my favorite)
Dearly Beloved - Yoko Shinomura (overall KH theme)
With those first two it would be super cool to see something similar to your Zanarkand video where you watch the versions from the game openings first before the orchestral. I would be amazing to see what you think of the iteration changes.
I'm a huge fan of the series, and I would totally suggest listening to more of the ost, because in my opinion every song is ear candy.
This was beautiful. I played Kingdom Hearts awhile ago but I didn't recall this song being as good as it was. My favorite from the series is, " Hollow Bastion" and "Traverse Town".
Thanks for diving into the world of my nerdisms of anime and gaming!
God this song will stay with me forever. My favorite memories as a kid were playing KH1 and KH2.
Found this after my suggestion of Kingdom Hearts... The main series games have some of my favorite game soundtracks of all time. Just hearing the music makes me want to play the game.
Love to see your reaction and feeling the music
This games soundtrack is what got me started playing the piano :)
After several videos last few weeks, the gaming media generations of x, millennial deserved a guy like you, bringing this all together into youtube. I hope you're enjoying your journey into this journey and assimilation of cultures with us....sincerely
Some of the other ones that I love from her are
Vector to the heavens, the other promise, hollow bastion, aqua dark dive, edge of existence and so many more.
I always wish this song to play more during the games.
Around The World from Microsoft Flight Simulator is a super beautiful one to check out!
This is crazy because I was just going to see if you reacted to any of the Kingdom Hearts series.
The kingdom hearts games have so amazing music, the introsong to the first game is my favorite
Love the vid! Just subscribed!
I absolutely love the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack. There's just something about it that makes it sound so magical!
I cannot hate this. As a gamer! I LÖVE this. IF he only knew how many gamers loved his channel but didn't put a comment down. :)
It's over 9000!
Imagine pointy haired characters fighting with/against your childhood Disney characters in a random backdrop of another Disney film. I'm not kidding nor exaggerating 😂
This is the music for the serious moments of such a game.
5:30 HE SAYS THE THING!!! HE SAID IT!!!!
Just great! Thanks! 🙏
This song starts and I just get a full-body flashback to: pick a sword, a staff, or a shield
I don't really like the later Kingdom Hearts games much but goddamn they still have incredible music. Literally fills me with emotion immediately.
your face at 8 25 when it went into the chorus🤣🤣 kh means alot to people and the music is one reason
Please check out song "Out of Tartarus" from the game HADES, composed by Darren Korb!
YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO "THE OTHER PROMISE" FROM KINGDOM HEARTS 2, IT'S A CLASSIC
Any official or orchestral incarnation of Destati is truly my favorite piece of music in the world. Have been obsessed with it since age 7 all the way back in 2001 ever since I begged my parents to buy the soundtrack for me. Lol
But yeah, I listen to it at least a few times a month.
The only other song that ties for first place with me is One Winged Angel, (Final Fantasy 7)
