This is a lovely recording. Moffo certainly had a naturally beautiful voice. She came to Boston in the mid '70s to appear in Verdi's "Stiffelio." It was my understanding that this was late in her career.
It is my favorite rendition of one of the most beautiful bel canto arias. I listen to the aria almost every day and I am not bored. The technique is impeccable. The only vice is "tu m'affida amor" at 2:10.

das ist schlicht perfektion. vergleiche mit anderen sängerinnen sind in diesem fall sicher nicht erlaubt. anna moffo ist unanfechtbar eine der besten, die es je auf dieser welt gab. aber wir wissen auch, das es genau so gujte wieder geben wird. ich möchte nicht mehr werten, ich möchte einfach nur noch geniessen
She had such a natural way with this repertoire. Her voice wasn't huge, but well focused, and it had this natural agility and at the center of sound there was a core of sadness. She didn't have the myriad of vocal colors of Callas (who did?) or the spectacular agility of Sutherland, but her voice and way of singing and interpreting this material was the very idiomatic. And all this was wedded to a movie star caliber beauty. Her singing of this repertoire is superior to anyone singing nowadays, perhaps with the exception of Eglise Gutierrez, who seems a throwback to 19th century.
I loved her voice, and her unique timbre, but Anna wasn't really a coloratura soprano. She was a lyric soprano with a high upper extension, and she could sing florid music. She was able to sing many coloratura roles as well actual coloraturas, but there was a price for hiking her voice up there too often. This piece finishes on a shrill high F, and there is obvious strain in the sound. Anna went to the well too many times, and that gorgeous voice began to unravel.

I have heard this aria sung much slower and also much faster. In this aria, I saw the score she used, and it was the conductor who set the tempo. The composer may indicate a specific tempo, but it is up to the musicians and interpreters of the composed music to give it expression and bring it to life.

She’s sung a high F in a few pieces. Funiculli Fanicula on TH-cam comes to mind. I think she interpolated the note also during Una voce poco fa, too.
