I am 22 years old. I have been listening this piece for years but I never commented, never said a thing to anyone about it; for when I listen to such a divine rendition of Ustad Mehdi hasan, my thoughts become clouded, my hands start shivering, I lose my writing skills, and find myself lost in an eternal, inexplicable peace. I have listened other works of Ustad and have experienced the similar incapability to organize thoughts and words. But, having been an avid fan of Ustadji for years, now I have, for the first time, dared to praise the God himself. Yes! He is a God for me, indeed. I wish I could meet him; I wish he had lived for eternity.
Though there are many versions of this superb Urdu composition of Faiz Ahmed Faiz,this rendering by Mehdi Hassan,one of the finest exponents of Ghazal singers,seems to be the best...the MOST ENCHANNNNNNNNTING! Khan sahab singing is beyond this world... but high notes in the sher Ek fursat e gunaah mili wo bhi char din is really appreciable.. Tabla player has also given his best.. One sher dedicated to khan sahab..Tum kya gaye ke ruth ke din gazal ke .. Sirmood aapka bhi shukriya is peshkimti kohinoor ke liye...

The rendition by the great Mehdi Hassan Saab in both low and high notes were treats to listen. In this ghazal penned by the great Faiz Ahmed Faiz Saab , the depth and range of the Khan Saab's divine voice had come into full flow which made it immensely soulful and melodious! What a formidable combination it was! Hat's off to both of them!
Everyone is unique, in one's own right, in one's own individual way, in the respective genres of music ! Admiring one doesn't necessarily mean showing disrespect to others ! That's it ! Who was the great Mehdi Hassan Saab and what was his contributions to the World of Music, in general, and, Ghazal Gayiki, in particular, is readily available in the public domain and in anybody's reach ! The illustrious career of the great Khan Saab spanning over almost six decades will speak volumes about his abilities, as a singer of exceptional merit ! Viewers hardly require any bidding from any quarter, whatsoever ! They are intelligent enough to draw their own inference/conclusion ! Perhaps, a 'living legend' could only realise the greatness of a 'legend in his lifetime' ! How right was the great Latajee in her assessment of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab during his lifetime in saying - "GOD resides in the voice of Mehdi Hassan Saab !" Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saab went on to say - " No one can ever compete with Mehdi Hassan Saab in so far as his control over sur is concerned !"

It is also sung under the influence of Raag Asavari by using komal dhaivat!!! I really wonder why this Raag is called Desi Todi where it doesn't use komal rishabh & komal dhaiwat as in Raag Todi & uses komal nishaad unlike in Raag Todi! I will be thankful to you if you elaborate in this regard!! Thank you!!!
