  • Robert traveled to China to visit a bonsai pot manufacturing factory. We wanted to give you all a look at the production side of the bonsai business. We're aware that the audio in this video isn't great. The factory was very loud and Nolan did not travel along to China, so Robert recorded everything from his cell phone using the in-phone mic as audio.
It takes three hours from the closest main city to get to this factory. These bonsai pots are exported all over the world and they have been our source of bonsai pots for close to 40 years.
The factory strives to achieve zero waste. The clay material is found on this land. Every clay material is 100% used. Even if the bonsai pot breaks during production, it's crushed up and reused again to make other containers and plates.
We're excited to give you a glimpse at what it's like at a bonsai pot factory. Enjoy the video!

Very cool to see how these mass production pots are made! The trick with the fingers as plugs for the glaze tip was cool to learn about

Ok one container. I'm buying ]]]. It must be for really good price. Till it come to EU it is like 100x price up.

The mark up price may seem like a lot, but here is the breakdown and reason for ir.
Yes, one bonsai pot is a really good price if you buy direct from the manufacturer. But to buy just ONE, you'd have to buy a plane ticket, get a rental car, drive three hours, just to buy one bonsai pot.
If you're buying a cargo container, minimum order is a 20 foot container. You have to buy a plane ticket to visit the supplier, spend time to build a relationship with the supplier, pay for the massive order of around 5,000- 10,000 bonsai pots, shipping and international fees, risk of it breaking during transit, and a place to store it.
I'm not sure what the cost of bonsai pots are in the EU, but the mark up price puts these obstacles into factor.
