During the era of the Pocket 1, we didn't really have anything else like this and it was (is) great for what it was. The problem now seems to be whether the P3 is $600 better. As a P1 owner, I'mmmm not so sure it is. Nice comparison. Thank you. I've been wanting to see this very side-by-side.
I still hold a sweet spot for the original Pocket 1, but it was $399 when released in 2019 and the Pocket 3 is $519, is the Pocket 3 worth $120 more? Yes, it certainly is in my opinion and if you get the creator combo you get an extra battery and the DJI wireless mic 2 with 32 bit float internal recording and also pairs up to the Pocket 3 instantly. But like I have always said about GoPro's ect , if you're happy with the camera/version you have, then there is no need to upgrade unless you think it will improve/help your workflow in some way. Thanks for watching !
I've got the original 1 and just bought the 3. Its beautiful and definitely worth upgrading. I'll still use my 1 for under water shots and other stuff 🇬🇧
I really am impressed with the Pocket 3. I have the Pocket 1 and will definitely be upgrading to the Pocket 3. It has upgraded all the shortcomings that the Pocket 1 had. I will also be upgrading to the Action 4 from my Go Pro Hero 7 Black. I just have to decide which one do I buy first. Thanks so much for all your truly honest and well thoughtout videos. You have really helped me over the years in my purchases. And FYI, I'm just 2 years older than you and thats one of the main reasons I trust your opinions so much. Our generation are more straight forward and to the point with our opinions and videos on what electronics we use in our daily lives.
At 2:15 the depth of field is so nice on the Pocket 3, almost like a full frame camera. Very nice comparison and yes, camera technology is advancing fast.
The comparison i'm looking for as i have the pocket 1 - Thanks for doing this! Don't need to upgrade for now, but will sure be checking on the price next year for my travel plans. With all the upgrade on the pocket 3, it's a lot more expensive than when the pocket 1 first released.
It's kind of normal for the next itteration of a product to be better than the last.. no surprises here.. but imo the 600+ price on the 3 is too much to warrant replacing my pocket 1..
If you're happy with the original Pocket 1, then no need to upgrade and that goes for any camera really, but if you're looking for more, then the Pocket 3 is a fantastic camera
LOL Yes I'm almost 60, see, I'm OLD. The face tracking is super useful and I'll show some more scenarios where it can be used. Now go play those lottery numbers, as my dad use to say "You can't win if you don't play" 😎
@@WORTHITORNOT Yep, just got it today. Installed the firmware. Not impressed with the video quality at all. Playing with the EV and white balance doesn’t seem to help. Tracking is great, though.
11:14 you absolutely said it. It's time for full size camera companies to step up their game. We've seen these incremental updates year after year, and it's frustrating when camera A offers excellent auto focus, but camera B offers great stabilization, and camera C offers a great menu system. I spent the past month in denial, not wanting the Pocket 3 to be this good, but now I've seen too many videos where the Pocket 3 totally competes with full size cameras, with better features, and everything about it is just so handy and portable. Also, for what it's worth, I think the image on the Pocket 1 still looks amazing, especially with the cinelike profile. I would use the Pocket 1 more often, but to get the kind of shots I want to get, everything is far too dependent on using my phone to set it up properly. There are a lot of "work-arounds" to get the Pocket 1 at a user-friendly state, I think Camera Conspiracies said it best "You have to build a deck every time you want to use it." I also think the original Pocket 1 menu system is atrocious, again, leading to reliance on the using the phone. It looks like the Pocket 3 has addressed a lot of these issues and is taking it in the right direction. Great video, as always, and when I buy the Pocket 3, I will be using your links.
I bought osmo pocket when it was first released, and I'm still as impressed by its video quality as when I first tested it. However, the fact that I need a lot of side accessories to really use it to its fullest, makes it feel like a demo version in comparison to osmo pocket 3. Anyhow I will mostly use my osmo pocket 1 for shorter clips, while im going to use my osmo pocket 3 for vlogging.
Great side by side video Andre. Gotta say the video quality looks great. My only question for that money is its build quality and will it last long term. Maybe they’ll have a Black Friday sale.
Thanks Jason. It’s build quality is great and actually feels better than the Pocket 1 , and after 4 years my Pocket 1 is still running strong with no issues, even the built in battery runs great. The “only” possible issue might be later on with the flip screen, but only time will tell.
Hello and greetings from Colombia. I prefer the pocket 3 by the 1 inche sensor, but i had money only to pocket 1 refurbished in 2024😅. Thanks for your videos.
So impressed with the action 4, i got the pocket 3 last night yet to try it properly. In your video the colours from the pocket 3 really pop compared to the 1. Maybe it is the wide angle of the 3 that improves the dynamic range, but the 3 is better. Looking forward to using the pocket 3 when the suns up, but it’ll be raining in England.
Hey, apparently I'm a little younger but my beard is white 😅 Advantage of pocket 1 is size if you're trying to be sneaky. But yes the 3 looks a lot nicer. Ideal vlogging camera for sure if you don't care about ruggedness.
Imagine the Quality if DJI made a full frame camera to compete against Sony, Nikon and Cannon!?! Because they already took out Go Pro!?! Playing with my new Pocket 3 that just showed up! Passed on the lack luster GPH12!
Exactly, if DJI came out with an APSC camera with their stabilization built in like the Action 4, they would give the big camera manufacturers a huge headache and eat a lot of market share for sure.
Interesting. Of course the Pocket 1 is at it's best in the bright daylight you shot in. Switch to low light - not using the high ISO mode of P3, just auto, and P1 would fall back pretty quick, though. PS: you said "electronic 3 axis gimbal" - actually it's a mechanical gimbal. I know what you meant, though.

I got refurbished pocket 1 way back when. Still using it now. Amazing little camera
Liking the look of the Pocket 3.
Hey there Uncle Kevin ! The Pocket 3 is a very impressive camera for sure !
Thanks a lot of your comparision. That helped my to get what i need. Pocket1 enaugh for my style. 😊
I still have the 1. I didnt upgrade to 2 because i had loads of expensive accessories. But just bought the 3 and love it 🇬🇧
Congratulations, it’s a great camera

Congratulations

Yes it has indeed. The blurry background is so nice and I agree, it can look like a large sensored camera at certain times.
Video quality looks great and I like the wider lens and colors. Looking forward to your low light test with it.
So far, I'm really really liking this camera. The low light test should be interesting and surprising when you see what cameras I compare it to !
I'm still tossing around between Action 4 and Pocket 3.
Oooo, tough choice, but I've got a video coming up with the Pro's and Con's of each and which might be the better choice given certain scenarios.

I will get my OP3 tomorrow. For my liking, the OP3 footage is a bit too overexposed, but that's personal preference.
If You are getting a pocket 1 in less then 200 bucks with creator combo in some deal, it will rock ....Pocket one is still more then usable....
Pocket 1 is $120
Pocket 3 is $600
For me pocket 1 still good deal to buy. But if i have $600 budget i will go for pocket 3.
That face tracking is so smooth on the pocket 3 and the image is really good. Now I just have to win the lottery 😂. Damn you’re almost 60?

IS YOUR POCKET 1 BATTERY STILL GODD IN 2024?
Yes it is. Just used it the other day and performed like it did new.
Pocket 1 focal length is better and more natural. Pocket 3 color looks more fake and unrealistic sharp.
It seems to me that Pocket 3 has wrong sky color.
