    Interesting and informative video as always Chris :) If the fish are close in on windy days then there is always the possibility of roll casting to them, weed permitting. Saves getting a hook in you. Totally agree about eye protection. Still too many not taking that seriously, unfortunately.

    • @TheTroutFlyFisherman
      @TheTroutFlyFisherman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks David. Yeah the roll cast is very useful, but not on this day. Yeah I always make sure I protect my eyes when fishing in any position with wind that’s a bit dodgy!

      Nice one Wullie! Yeah I have had quite a few cracking goldies from there, was too windy to spot them mostly so I was just blind fishing and hit rainbows this time. No complaints, 4 lovely trout. Nothing huge but I love the quality of them. Thanks again for watching! 👍🏻🎣

    Nice video. what kind of rod do you use in this video? brand length and fly line

  • @scottjock
    @scottjock 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Chris. I came across a guy using a floss line in the wind very successfully.
    I don't know if youve come across this method or used it?
    He was able to place the fly right on the nose.

    • @TheTroutFlyFisherman
      @TheTroutFlyFisherman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim, I have never heard of a floss line no, will need to take a look 👍🏻

    Hi mate, enjoying the videos. But noticed some flies you used that I’ve never seen or heard of before. So my question is... where are your top 3 go to places for your flies? Cheers 👍🏼

    • @TheTroutFlyFisherman
      @TheTroutFlyFisherman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anonymous G - I tend to buy a small amount of flies that I like from all different places, and then patterns that perform I will tie up myself and add some variations. If there are specific flies you are interested in let me know and I’m happy to recommend where to go, as it really will depend what flies you are after. Cheers 👍🏻

    Good content again!!
    Aye I generally get my 7 WT out and try to keep my loops as tight as possible when it gets a wee bit breezy.
    Keep em coming!

    One thing I do if you cant avoid having the wind going right to left if your a right-handed caster, or vica versa if left handed, is to turn your back on the lake, cast towards the bank and then flick it back onto the lake on a back cast. If you master it, perfect way to counter it.
    You can also cope with a sideways wind you can really use it to your advantage to get distance on your casts.
    Thirdly, use the wind to your advantage use it to drift your flies towards trees, reeds or otherwise 👍

    • @TheTroutFlyFisherman
      @TheTroutFlyFisherman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rob Hart - definitely Rob! I actually thought after posting the vid that I hadn’t mentioned turning around if the winds on your wrong shoulder. Though I don’t think I needed to that day, but I do use that tactic a lot in the wind!
      Thanks Rob! 👍🏻🎣

      The Trout Fly Fisherman Can I ask, do you teach at all. I’ve been fly fishing for a few years but I am looking for a couple of lessons on casting/dry fly presentation and what types of flies to use?

    • @TheTroutFlyFisherman
      @TheTroutFlyFisherman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sean - I don’t mate no, it’s just a hobby for me and you are better off finding a proper teacher when it comes to casting! I would just teach you my bad habits! Haha. I’m not by any means an expert, but I do pretty well and really just hoping to share tips that will help aimed more at beginner level. I learned most from online, but looking back a casting lesson or two would probably have helped me to improve quicker, so I would definitely recommend that. With dry fly presentation, it’s all about being delicate, and fishing it effectively. Many people fish 2 or 3, but I tend to stick to 2 or even 1. I will try if I can to do a more detailed video focussing on dry fly, and what I do which will hopefully help 👍🏻

      The Trout Fly Fisherman Cheers bud, yeah I’ll keep looking to find someone. And that would be great if you get the chance. At the same time will look for you when I’m out fishing. tend to move around to different fisheries. Got a few favourites around here living in Dalgety Bay.

    Nice fishery but definitely needs more weed control

    • @TheTroutFlyFisherman
      @TheTroutFlyFisherman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah Tommy, first time I’ve been where there’s been an issue, but thinking about it I don’t think I’ve been in the height of summer previously so don’t know if this is a common issue each year. They did mention that they were getting a new weed cutting machine, so hopefully they can get it sorted.
