  • In February of 2019 I traveled to London, and being the giant Middle-earth nerd that I am, I HAD to make time to go to Oxford and visit J.R.R. and Edith Tolkien’s grave to pay my respects.
I sadly didn’t film much (I only have a few very short video clips), but I took a lot of photos so I’m sorry for this glorified slideshow.
I knew I’d get emotional seeing their tombstone but I pretty much broke down crying when I got there. The amount of gratitude I felt was overwhelming.
I’m still kicking myself for not bringing any flowers (or ANYTHING AT ALL) but it was still really nice to just be there in the sunlight as the birds sang. It was the perfect day and being able to say thank you was really special for me.

It was actually Tolkien's idea to put those names, by the time Edith died he started thinking about it, and he even mentioned it to Christopher in one of his last letters

Great video! I especially loved hearing the sounds of the birds and the crunch of gravel underfoot. Thanks for sharing it!

Lily Milos Thank you!! For a second I thought about taking out the audio, it was definitely the right choice to keep it in. 😄

For a guy who wrote the worlds greatest fantasy epic he sure died a humble man. Anyone else would of asked to be buried in a very luxurious way but not Tolkien. He chosed to die like any other ordinary man

With ol that money from the movies and books based upon his story telling the franchise should have tipped in to build a fitting gave for him

I think he and Edith’s resting place is fitting. I can’t imagine them with something grand. And to be fair it looks much better during the warmer months, more lush and green.

Watching this video for I respect JRR Tolkien. If not for COVID-19 and my lack of money (still finding a job) I would visit his grave, I will give him my tears and thanks for creating a masterpiece with Peter Jackson's movies honoring it for today's generations onward. But now, Amazon are trying to disgrace it. I'm not here for hate but for my utmost heart to have read his books. As an aspiring writer, he had fare of hardships in creating of his creations of wonders and I relate to that. Hope everyone is okay especially in Ukraine now.
