A lot of fantastic musicians work with me in an MI office. They just missed their break, or had a kid, or got arthritis, or some crazy minor thing that makes the tiny difference between stardom and a lanyard with your name on it.

theunwelcome my favorite instance of a rocker on trial was Dee Snider. They expected him to prove them right but he showed up just how they wanted, full rocker garb and all and arguably did more than the other two rockers on the trial

Jimi is better than Elvis as a guitarist, and inspired more people to pick up guitar than Elvis, who was more inspirational to singers. Jimi made guitar solos pretty much necessary in the eyes of future rockers.

They were gonna do it in 2015 which made shit my pants as a Hawk fan but cancelled due to guitarist's stress from an ex member deciding to jump the gun and tour the states under the name "Nik Turner's Hawkwind" (not the official original band). So a North American Hawkwind tour will never happen in my lifetime all thanks to Lemmy's firing. If you think that I'm "over exaggerating", then hand me money for a plane ticket to the UK, a hotel room at whatever British city the band is playing, food, and a freaking ticket to see Hawkwind live. (extra money is optional if I wanna buy souvenirs and a t shirt from the gig)

@@Banana_Split_Cream_Buns Dave did backing vocals on most of nirvana songs. You can look up most of these vocal tracks to hear Dave. I can name a few for you guys. For Nevermind he did them on the chorus of in bloom. On Drain You Dave did some in the verse and the whole chorus. Come as you are Dave did it on a few parts. Heart shaped box he even does low harmonies. I can go on and on, just listen to butch vig breaking the mixing down or watch live performances. OH AND Polly is like his most popular he plays a big role on the vocals. Also Dave ALWAYS had a mic by him on stage, he drummed and sang.
Yeah pretty much all this ^ and the whole Paramount concert he sings harmonies with Kurt. Polly, Drain You, end of Aneurysm, on Been a Son it was great, etc. Pretty sure he sang the harmonies on the version on Incesticide too.
Gents...Dave sang on most songs. Turn on Nevermind...close your eyes and listen for it. He is all over it. Fast forward to Unplugged...still singing away. Grohl did a good job of complimenting Kurt’s raspy vocals.
Look up "Butch Vig Breaks It Down In The Studio" on TH-cam.
It's the producer/engineer breaking down multiple songs which reveals that indeed, Grohl did a lot of backing vocals on the album (and live shows, but we already knew that one.)

Chad played on In Bloom when they were doing demos with Butch Vig. Once they recorded Nevermind Butch wanted to start with In Bloom because he knew the arrangement. In the video where Butch breaks down Nevermind, he says "Dave and Krist had a good groove going," or something along those lines. Then goes onto the backup vox....but I clearly remember when the video played it showed "In Bloom- Featuring Chad Channing."
I actually liked the bleach album. It's a brutal, raw and angry version of nirvana. More hardcore punk than what we got on nevermind. Bleach doesn't get the credit and praise it deserves.

Don’t forget about Rick Allen from Def Leppard. He got in a car crash on new yrs eve 84/85 and lost his arm. He had a lot of dedication and used electric drums with more pedals so he could accommodate for having only 1 arm. By setting the programs with the pedals as different drums he was able to play quite well, and after all these years continues to play live on tour with the classic 80’s-90’s band

It just wasn't just dee snyder and frank Zappa. Probably the most surprising and strongest defender against the PMRC was John Denver. Probably the most popular musician at the time.
What I love most about that is that the PMRC were likely expecting Denver to take their side and he obliterated their arguments.

He certainly did! I actually just watched all three speaking on that day and LOVED Dee of course. Zappa was okay he just came in with an attitude that kinda alienated some people i think. And Denver was really great. Made strong points and spoke with conviction. I think the fact that he was not a rock musician helped as well. It's wrong to exclude him.

We should thank the PMRC, because there's no such thing as bad press. How many albums went multiplatinum because of them and the parental label. The judas priest trial was a joke. Those that study music say that you can hear whatever you want playing anything backwards.

No albums went platinum because of the PMRC. Millions of people don't go "they say this is bad so let's all flock and buy it".

@@TheFujac Conservatives? No. As a Conservative, I can tell you straight-up that censorship was never part of the Conservative platform in the 80's. Yes, some "Conservative" politicians (like the RINO Paula Hawkins) joined Al Gore and his wife Tipper in supporting the PMRC. Even so, the biggest outcry came from other groups - specifically moderate churches and soccer moms.
During that time, the Republican party platform was strictly anti-censorship, while the more conservative churches tended to push individual responsibility for avoiding "sinful" activities, rather than forcing such responsibility on the government.
The biggest supporters of the PMRC in government were Tipper Gore (a very, very liberal Democrat) and her coalition.

To suggest Nirvana wouldn't have been the same without Gruhl is a joke. Kurt was the talent and from Dave's own words, Kurt taught him about writing songs and lyrics. Nirvana would have been just fine.
Agree, it was Kurt who was the driving force not Grohl. Kurt Cobain is Nirvana, so even if you replace the drummer and bassist, it doesn't matter. People will still like Nirvana.
But they were not the same with the 5 previous drummers. So I think Grohl played a major part as did Krist.
If it was ass Kurt it also wouldn't have been anything like it is. Successful bands, good music is all a collaborative effort or it's generally trash. Even solo artists get assisted by Producers
Dave was an essential part of the Nirvana sound and even Kurt would've told you that. Put Chad Channing on Nevermind and it doesn't even crack the top 15 in 91 guaranteed. Chad was great but Nirvana needed heavy thundering drums to complete its true sound. Imagine hearing Teen Spirit without the explosive aggressive opening hook or Heart Shaped Box without the echoing rhythmic crash cymbals. There is no way they would've been the same. Bands are the sum of all parts. Very few can claim to be carried by one person and the ones that can are the ones that have only ever had one permanent member

When mentioning PMRC you should have mentioned Jello Biafra. He obliterated Tipper Gore on live TV, and consistently was one of her biggest critics.
That whole thing might have been to help raise Tipper's & All s profile to further their political careers
When people lose their kids (that listened to metal) they are too struck by guilt and grief to realize that the artists didn't have an agenda against their kid. The artists shouldn't have to ever be responsible for someone else's decision. It's easy to look for an external source to place the blame upon, but at the end of the day, no musician should be sued for their message.
That judas priest lawsuit might have been fueled by grieving parents looking for an explanation, as well as overzealous lawyers & prosecutors looking for a way to get famous....

Honestly, I think they would have gone the same way as Pearl Jam, where they blew up exponentially, then kind of slow burned throughout the 90s and into 2000 (Pending they would have stayed together that long), and every time they come out with a new album, it sparks a little interest and that's it. I realistically don't think this perspective of Nirvana being the greatest band ever, to the point of being played on the rock stations ever hour, would be a thing.
I'm reminded of that quote from The Dark Knight, where you die the hero, or live long enough to be the villain. However, adjusted for music, it'd probably be that you either die the megastar, or you live long enough to fade into obscurity. I mean, look at someone's trajectory like Jim Morrison's, versus Johnny Cash's. When Rick Rubin hit him up to do an album with him around the turn of the century, he'd been playing to rooms of a couple hundred people for over a decade. Then, he made the huge come back and died a star. Or look at Meat Loaf, he was pretty much off the radar for the entire 80s, came back, but now he's off the radar again. My point being is that most former stars don't usually get the come ba k, but when they do, it's just kind of repeating the process.
Anthony Sforza If you heard Kurts unreleased tracks he recorded at home it was going to be filled with acoustics as well as some electric. It would’ve been their greatest album in terms of creativity. Shame.

Warrant - Cherry Pie, Poison - Unskinny Bop, Something to Believe In, Mr. Big - Just Take My Heart, To Be With You, Vixen - Rev it Up, Love is a Killer, Damn Yankees - High Enough, Ratt - Loving You is a Dirty Job etc. Penelope acts like she changed the course of history with her film that no one even watched. Hair metal was doing fine for years after that film dropped. It went out of fashion around 93.

Actually, they were the guys from the bands, however... Perhaps not as accurate as it could have been. Case in point, as per Paul Stanley, for his segment, she asked him what the most Rockstar thing he could think of, was. He'd responded "I don't know, lying on expensive silk sheets with two women." Thinking it was just a general question. Then when it came time to do his interview, there was the bed with the two women, to which he was internally losing it like a little kid, thinking "This is so awesome!"
