My dad and I rode this when I was about 8 years old! How I would love to find one, it brings back so many memories!
My brother died a couple of yrs ago, and we just got his shed door open 2wks ago..exact bike with 13 thousand on it.. perfect shape.. gonna have to get her going..been sitting there since 07
This stuff is just art one after another New England museum where a motorcycle never dies
The sound of that bike is pure Japan!
Had a bike like this back in the 80’s. Totaled it in an accident in 1989. Great bike.
I had an '81 Seca - it's an XJ, not an XS - in the same color and did a two-tone pistachio green/satin pearl revamp on it. The carbs were difficult to tune, as I remember, and a special tool had to be ordered to suit. After I sold it, I went serious on a Midnight Special, an '83 XS11 which I rode across - of all countries, Cambodia. It was superb on rough, unsealed roads and that torque was legendary
Had two. One had a sport touring package Yes the carbs were trouble. Also the switches and levers weren't positive....mushy. Lastly the engine and aluminum components were impossible to keep looking good. Some polymer coating that discolored, blistered and flaked off.
Ditched them and got a Kawasaki ZL900 Eliminator. That baby was an absolute peach. Handled well for the design and would just about rip your arms off in a launch. Was long and low so the front was easy to keep down when going for it. Unique styling that drew attention at gas stations. No problem whatsoever.
I had three 80s Yamahas and all three had problems. Haven't had one since. Hope they got their QC squared away. After talking to some R1 owners I'm doubtful.
THIS was my first bike! - back in ~1990. Did a 5000 mile solo trip.
Gotta love the Vintage Yamaha XS Lineup. My Uncle had a Yamaha XS 1100, black, with gold badging, just like this gorgeous bike. That exhaust note is heavenly. That is my idea of the perfect exhaust note. That exhaust would sound amazing, if you cracked down hard on that throttle.
This is actually an XJ. The XS-750 Special was actually a 3 Cylinder that was discontinued in 81 I believe. The XS-650 lasted through 82.
1981 was a killer year for Yamaha
I had a 650 Seca and a 550 Vision.
Unfortunately the 550 Vision is regarded as one of the worst bikes to come out of Japan, they were plagued with issues and problems.
That's a really nice bike man for just kicking back and cruising!!! 👍
It sure is!
That bike sounds bad ass that's why Yamaha rules baby.
Mine still has stock 4-1-2 exhaust. Probably not for much longer as the collector rusts out. This is a great sounding alternative, though.
love the chrome work on this one! I would love to do that on mine!
Just beautiful
Great memories had the same bike back in the late eighties. It was my first road bike when I was 18
Awesome sound, classic Yami. I still have a 1986 Yamaha Raider yx600, all original. Still need to tune carbs
that thing sounds soo good Kaptain!!! WOW!!!
My uncle had one just like this back in the days. It had a front fairing tho. Man I loved that bike
Beautiful machine and awesome custom job. I had the white '82 new from the dealer with the fairing for it and put 80 000km on it until marriage and kids interfered... Thanks for the memories, I wish I still had mine.
I had one just like it except it was all stock in 1984. It had a fairing - way cool bike!
what an absolute honey,beautiful bike.
I bought one in 1998. Sold it 2009. I'm not hard-core biker or even an expert at all. But it is my favorite bike I've owned. And I am a cb750 fan.
Nice bike wish mine looked that good !
I had a red one in the late 80s. Had 88,000 miles.
Hey Ken! Happy FriYAY!!! Real quick… Any idea on how close the Suzuki PE 175 is to making its TH-cams debut???? Me and my buddy John are anxious to see it all dolled up after we "eye spied" it that day we were up for a visit. Thanks!!!
Oh my God. I just asked you this question and then I hit refresh and I think it's up there now. I'm going to go watch it. What a trip. 🤣👍
The video was up but corrupted
It is reloading now
How much for the shocks you took off the rear got an 82’ xj650 and the chrome on blue match?
Used have a 650 turbo with 12 pounds boost on a gocart. It was scary had boost gauge by steering wheel. I'd do 70 before gauge peaked 2nd gear
With that much chrome detail, the "SECA 750" badge should have been chromed!
Originally it was gold
Owner had for 17 yrs then wonder what happened. They loved it to do all that work on it
