    Beautiful bike and a very nice restoration. I had a brand new '82 from the dealer in white and got the fairing for it as well. Put 80 000 km on it until marriage and kids intervened. One of the prettiest UJM bikes ever, before the manufacturers hid their sport machines behind lots of plastic. Thanks for the memories, wish I still had mine.

    Still my dream to come true. I was 15yr old when I red about it and fell totally in love for it. Love it also for the drive axle, very neat Yamaha job back in those days. Thanks for sharing nice job.

    My first bike ever was a barn find 1981 XJ750 SECA RH. Spent two years rebuilding it in a chicken coop my buddy owned just to get it running, this brought tears to my eyes watching some of the cleanup parts and remembering doing almost the exact same things to mine. Thank you

    I had a Yamaha 750 Seca in 1981. Road her to Paris, Switzerland, and all over England. Lovely bike and that distinctive turbine sounding engine! Loved seeing this. Brought back great memories. Great video guys. Thanks, from Great Britain.

      Thanks so much "Gandalf606" I appreciate your feed back, and I had forgotten the sound this bike made till i got her started, and took a ride down the road ... first thing i said was ,, what a great sound! ...like a jet taking off ,, it was also very comfortable and turned on a dime .... very cool Bike!! you were very lucky to have had rides like that !! Paris, Switzerland, and all over England .
      Thanks again Tony

    That's great. I had one that same red color with a 4 into 1 Supertramp exhaust. Got for $750 used and 88,000 miles later I gave it to my buddies GF for free. Yrs later I married her so the bike for a time stayed in the family. I'd love to find it again or one like it. I miss it. That's awesome seeing the red fully restored one. Great job.

    Friend of mine had one, I had a KZ750. I could get him out of the hole, but then here he'd come lol. 1985, good times. First shaft bike I'd been around. To see it rise instead of squat was strange at the time.

    Quite a labor of love Tony, well done.
    I recently got a well used (90,000 miles) 81 XJ-750 from a guy's back 40 for $100.00, where it had been for many years. Very rough, but all there. Including the factory Yamaha larger touring fairing with leg extensions. It was the fairing that caught my eye, never saw one like it before and no reference in the books. After much searching and inquiries I finally found an older salesman at the Yamaha dealer in Oakland CA. He remembered the bike and told me it was a $1,300.00 touring package option in '81 and very few were sold because of the high price.
    The July 1981 Motorcyclist magazine has this bike on the cover and a write up inside. The front forks, LCD display/ electronics package and YICS engine were very cutting edge in '81, but not without issues. The starter can have issues that require major PITA work to repair. Some bloggers advise replacing the forks with a better set as well. Looks like I have my hobby work cut out for the next long while bringing her back close to as nice as this one.

    This video got me excited! Just got my 82 XJ750 Seca running again after it had been sitting forever. About the same amount of miles as this one. I am not going so far as repainting everything, but I have the fairing and windscreen option on mine. It is faded, so I probably will repaint eventually. Only thing left is a new set of tires and she will be road worthy again!

    I had one back in 83, it was a 81 same color paid 3200. 4 into one header and it would do 10.6 quarter mile. When i road it on a track i could lay it down so low around corners the magnesium engine graurds would scrape and throw up a 25 to 50 foot sparklers behind me. It was the fastest production bike in 81 for a 750 Good times! Sweet restoration!

    I owned 2 of these way back when, sold them both after they had been not used for some years , was delighted to see one of them last summer, on the road, looked exactly like it did when I sold it, great memories . In the process of putting a Vmax ( the bike I brought in 1999 to replace them) back on the road , sourcing obscure parts is taking ages. The XJ in the UK never had a fairing, but was a great bike.

    Nice work dude. Looks really good. Thumbs up!. My bike had a lower mini faring which I've not seen on any other 750 seca only on the 900. I bought it like that so possibly a mod by the previous owner. No idea. Loved it and was sorry to let it go.

    I had one just like that, I bought it for $800 from a used car dealer in 1994. In February 1995 some asshole pulled out in front of me in a big truck and I hit the side of his truck doing 35mph. I came out of it banged up but ok. I loved that bike, it was quite the cruiser.

    Hi there, I bought a Red 82 new front the dealer, loved the bike, loved the sound of the engine and the exhaust note. I have found another one in pretty good condition and may pick it up but it has some oxidation on the engine fins etc. How did you clean your up so nicely and what product did you use? Thanks

      So So Sorry for your lost Jesus, it would be nice to restore his bike for him and you. ... to your question I looked for months and found a 2nd "donor" bike same year with no title, to source some of the parts, and ebay for the rest, however the bike i restored had almost all the parts still on the bike and they all can be restored ...plated painted polished anodized or powder coded to new condition. Good Luck and Enjoy the process! and enjoy the ride.

    My first scooter was a 1981 750 Seca. They stole it in 83. It had 26000 miles and looked as good and ran as good as the one you show here. I ended up getting and FJ1200, but I never liked it as much as this one. Seca 750 was the sweetest motorcycle I've ever seen. Question if you're still monitoring this, where on earth did you get the parts (forks and so forth). I was under the impression the parts were no longer available. Also, if you dont' have one, get the steering damper for the fork. That fairing is NASTY when you get wash off of a passing car. I found out the hard way as I rolled onto a steel grate bridge. Really nice job on that 83!

    I have the opportunity to purchase a bike like this one. Only, it's a 1980 model. Seems to be in good condition. It has hard bags and a trunk. The owner is ask ing $2,000 USD. I Offered $1,700. What do you think? 23'670 miles on it.

    • @tonyn6072
      @tonyn6072  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Stanley Hard to say with out seeing it, that is a good number of miles, but not if it has been cared for. $1700 is a lot if she is not running and looks beat up and neglected, If she is inspected and ready to ride with no dents in the tank then it may be a good buy, best of luck on your decision.

    Great video and great job on the bike. I am restoring a 1982 xj 750 as a little quarantine project. I have a question, maybe you can help me? I am missing a half inch or so vacuum line on the left hand side of the bike behind the crank. I see you have it connected and I can’t tell where it goes. Does it run into the air box?

    • @raystargazer
      @raystargazer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Original cost for mine was $3400 brand new from Libby's in New Haven. I added the handlebar fairing which was great, and a damper after I almost lost it on the highway. Those small fairings caught the slightest wind and flipped the front end around so you couldn't control it. Don't recall how much the fairing was, but the damper was $50 and worth it. Everywhere I went people would stop me and comment on how good it looked. Mine was black with all the original stuff until they stole it. I never recovered. From 81 to 83 I clocked 26000 miles. Loved every second. You won''t find a more enjoyable scooter anywhere. Super narrow motor so you could really lay it over & real power. 52MPG and nimble as hell. Oh, I ran with a buddy on a 650 Turbo back from Placid for about an hour. He tells me his speedometer read 154 at points along the way. So yeah, it was pretty fast. Whole different world after nine grand. ;-)
