Remember, the etiquette on picking rare items that have a despawn time like these is up to you. Use kindness and communicate, that's the best etiquette of all 🤍🤍
So much helpful information here! Even just the list of all the forageables and their rarities will be super useful. Thank you for putting in so much time and effort to figure this out and share it with us!
What a wonderful video, Witchy! Thank you for the science. While I have not committed as many hours as you have to the science, and what I've done has mostly been solo, I did want to add that I had a Dari clove despawn right in front of me. I called it out to my friend, and I was waiting for her before picking it, but it disappeared without me picking it.
did you see the plant spawn in? if so then a bug for sure. If you didn't see it spawn in then it was picked before you found it, the image doesn't change for anyone but the picker. So you'd still see it normally until it despawned unless you picked it, then it goes grey!
Thanks so much for doing this research! It helps a great deal. And definitely good to know about the sound not being reliable about whether it has been picked or not.
I think your conversion from game time to IRL time might have been a little off (from what I've seen 1 IRL minute= 24 minutes in game), so if a rare forageable stays for 2 in-game hours= 120/ 24=5. I made this little list based on your video- thanks so much for taking the time to do this!! Forgeable Despawn rates after item is picked-- - Common/ Uncommon = 22 seconds - Rare = 2 minutes - Epic (dari clove/ heart drop lily)= 5 minutes
I timed them in real time first, so the times IRL are most correct. But the difference isnt huge from your calculation anyway. All I know is 1 day in palia time is 1 hour. and I always go for the lower numbers because an Epic does despawn in less then 5 minutes. but i appreciate the want to help make it all more accurate!!
Thanks for explaining it, I found a Lilly but I didn't pick it up, not knowing how long it would take to disappear, while I was writing its locations in chat it disappeared... would it have been better if I had picked it up? would he have stayed there?
so i was just standing next to a heartdrop lily right before picking it and announcing it.... almost instantly the heartdrop lily despawned and a briar thorn spawned there instead
I often got scolded for picking as soon as I arrived, if no one else had yet (which of course I would not know, and there's that timer ticking over), so stopped doing that. Now a little confused as to correct etiquette lol, because your findings were exactly how I thought it all worked, just from tagging around behind people, or them behind me. I'd figured out "if you see it, pick it" because I had heard *a difference in volume from the sound* of gatherables; louder for never having been picked, and slightly less loud for anyone coming up behind, but still there, which seemed a little too subtle when rushing through for most folk. P.S. and that sound difference may or may not exist for everyone, on every server either. Too many variables. Fairly sure it's not my imagination; re. louder sound for items not yet picked; ran behind someone just picking regular lilies; he/she missed one, and the sound was much louder than the one they'd previously picked so....
I tested the sound as well, and that's why I included the "just pick it" because I want that to be more common place unless you're certain it is "fresh". The ettiquette is as you see fit, if people are around you just be vocal and communicate. The sound seems like it changes, but that's because it has a cycle in it's "music" it isn't effected by it's pick status as far as I can tell but that's science that is still being done by me and VERY difficult... trust me lol
@@WitchyTQ Two hours real time staring at a heat root? I'll leave it to you lol. Sadly, re. communication with other players, things have become complicated. 1. Twitch users (I'm PC) cannot always chat, or at least, easily, so jumping up and down and pointing are it 2. For me, I'm in Asia Pacific server; and since being sidelined there, even if someone is chatting, it's more often than not in Mandarin, Japanese or Korean, which I cannot read - my best skill is identifying which language, not what is being said. (this is out in Bahari mostly; though silence has reigned, for me, in Kalima too lately). Re. plant sound; I'll take note of what you say. And I'll just pick too. Thank you, seriously, for all your efforts and data gathering.

You are a rockstar for working on this little project! So much time and effort, and all laid out in a comprehensive video.
thank you so much!

The hero we needed, but not the one we deserve! Thanks for the good science
Thanks for taking so much time out of your day to do this science. It is greatly appreciated!
And now I have found my first Dari Clove! Super helpful as always, Witchy. Appreciate you & your content.

that means someone picked it that you didnt see.
I was the only one there, standing right in front of it, waiting for my friend,@@WitchyTQ - perhaps could be a bug?

ok, this makes sense@@WitchyTQ, because i arrived at it, waited, then poof - gone. thank you again for this and all you do!
wow that must have taken you forever. this will make finding rare so much easier thankyou.

Thank you for doing this very important work! Excellent video
Thank you so much for this information. I started playing during the switch release. I appreciate you sharing, in game etiquette aa well 😊
Thanks Witchy for all the time and effort that went into this. Such a big help! 🤗
Me: running around in circles waiting for coral to respawn
lolol all of us
This has so much helpful info! thank you so much for testing and compiling!
Thank you for putting your time into this in order to give us this valuable information !
you're so welcome!
Hiii witchy tq!! I’m Melissa Kay, I said hi to you in chat the other day when we were on the same server🥰
oh hi!!
I love Palia science time! Thanks!
Thank you for your service!
this was so so helpful
The more active the server the more the server spawns, it makes sense because then an empty server wont be too rich for one or 2 players.

I wish the rare items had a special effect of sorts once picked to show the players that find them if they can wait with picking or not.
I'm working on a new "sound" theory but it's a whole other thing that so far I think is also nothing. so yeah, me too.

of course! I hope they correct the server cross region issues soon 🤍 @@Kayenne54
I really need one for my quest and I don’t know where to find one!
Which one?
How do you get your oysters opened?
You can open them in the inventory:) just interact with them
I’ve been playing for six months and have not once found a heat root
they're always on cliff sides so just make sure to look up
😊
