We have the same exact machine, same exact year. Purchase it for 18,500 with 0% financing. Love their 5 year warranty, but you have to buy from a reputable dealer. You can have these issues with practically any subcompact manufacture. The dealer has to be diligent before selling you the machine ...making sure that all fluids are topped off of. We’ve had very good luck with ours so far, only complaint is sometimes the seat can take a little getting use to when spinning it to utilize the backhoe. Once you get used to how it operates, it could almost be a one handed operation. Best of luck with your Massey, I think you’re going to find you made the right choice.
l I bought a GC 1705 that was two years old brand new and I got $2400 off list price . so I got a loader and the tractor and then I bought a front snowblower built my own cabin built my own blade on the back and I’m doing snow removal for four years. Beware of the biggest flaw in this tractor is the radiator being so close to the fan . the engine has four motor mounts on rubber and the motor flexes toward rad and sideways and if you happen to bump a little curb or something like that the engine will flex and it’s smashed 3 radiators on my tractor in three years during snow blowing. To fix this problem I welded 1”-by 1inch by 2 in. Solid blocks against motor mount so the engine will not flex towards the radiator .this is saved my rad so far.Tractor works fine for its size.My front mounted blower is a high maintenance unit.Sheer pins chains and hitch shaft .stripped when lock on hitch unlocked. Welded 2 bolts with 4 link chains to keep blower from coming off again. I did have a snap pin in place. The blower l fab corner plates and fab a new blower support as 1/8 “ frame is too weak. Also made a 3/8” by 3” cutting edge instead of the factory one. with 4” spacers and tires with beet juice and chains, this is all l need to blow snow on driveways and sidewalks.l am a heavy equipment operator and welder fabricator which is necessary to run and rebuild and repair whenever
Just a heads up to change the hour meter all they have to do is change the gauge cluster. Mine had 48 hrs on it and I had to have a new cluster put in and it came back showing 2 hrs.
Have one just like it-love it! A few tips though....1. Tractor can be tippy so please put ROP up so you don’t get hurt, 2. I use mine on the Homestead for logging also so to help skid I installed a winch on the front guard, 3. NEVER have been stuck even in the muddy woods when I engaged the “traction” pedal. Have fun and good luck!
I bought a used one, 500 hrs. I agree about the hoe... very powerful. The front bucket, not so much... but I developed work-arounds. I can deal. What I found out was that the hoe is heavy, much more than my neighbor's equivalent John Deere. I've a steep hill to climb. The Deere would easily climb it empty. The Ferg, I need to load the front bucket because it wants to wheelie... very scary... I need to look into ballast weights. I'm also perplexed because it is weak backing up... I'm wondering if it's an issue. The Deere would go forward or backward with identical power and speed..... I love having this machine around my place.
Mine is definitely weaker backing up. I put 2 inch spacers on my tractor. Did it to clear tire chains but feels way more stable! I do not climb many hills really though.
use them to lift whatever you like, move things around the yard on pallets, lift logs of firewood. i use mine to load my water tanks and for firewood, but i have lifted so many things with them!
I have a 2017 and I need some serious help, after using it for long periods to mow or dig, if I shut it off it won’t turn back on for weeks, we think it’s computer problems which it might be, but I need some advice on what it might be
Acreage Living it doesn’t crank at all, however the lights will turn on and it’s getting power from the battery, it doesn’t click but it buzzes like it should when I turn the key, when I turn it all the way it doesn’t make a noise at all, but when it does crank it starts right up with little smoke
@@dylanjones2321 are you on facebook? I have heard of the PTO switch getting stuck, faulty safety switch on the seat? If you are on facebook, join the group called Massey Ferguson GC Sub Compact Tractors, the banner photo of the group is a gc1710 carrying soem logs, actually my tractor! (not my group) Then search kevin jones posts, or tell me your facebook name once you join, and I can tag you in a post i think you may be interested in reading!
Acreage Living no I am not sadly, I had trouble with the seat but I fixed that by zip tying the switch down and I haven’t had a problem since, and I have noticed that it only breaks down after I mow or use the pto, at first I thought it wasn’t registering it was in neutral but soon realized it wasn’t that
@@acreageliving You will void the warranty if you use starter fluid .It says not to use it in the manual and that they will not honor they damage caused by using starting aids.
I think that it is different with tractors than it is with cars and trucks. Tractor models vary little from year to year so they go by hours more than they do by years. Granted, I would want a new one too if I was buying and not a hold over from last year that didn't get sold. Kind of makes you feel like you were taken advantage of. Looks to be a very nice unit. I have been hearing good things about the Masseys. They have been around a long time and have a history of pioneering, so to speak. Thanks for the video. I may do a video on my channel where I interview a Massey dealer. I am in talks with a Mahindra dealer, a Kubota dealer, and a Stihl out door power equipment dealer for interviews in the near future. Thanks for sharing.
When I called Massey Canada, they were able to tell me the year by my serial number. Also the 2018s had some upgrades, so it did matter to me! And the year would matter to me. My personal opinion, is dealers like to tell you the year of a tractor doesnt matter so they can sell you old stock easier! Of course the year matters! Who would want to buy a tractor sitting around for two years when they could have one fresh on the lot for the same price? :)
Now that you have had time using the backhoe do you find the seat comfortable and functional. I have heard from other owners that the seat they put on the backhoe model isn't that great.
i think they are the same seat but the backhoe model just flips around. Seat is good enough for me, i dont mow with my tractor, where i think a nice luxury seat would matter. Usually just using the loader or backhoe, so sitting stationary or going quite slow. The seat is soft enough, but tractor has no suspension nor does the seat besides i think one spring. It doesnt bother me at all but i could see people complaiining about it, especially if they use the tractor to mow, as thats where it would be an issue more i think.
Your ROP take a 24 inch piece of a pool noodle split it down the center put it over your ROP an use 3 zip ties to hold it. No more rattling or marking your backhoe.
lol that would work, but the biggest pain was having to keep folding it down and back up to enter/leave the garage . Its parked every night in the garage. Another idea I have seen, is a guy uses a carabeener to hold the rops, connected two together, so it only lays down about 6 inches, just enough to clear the door. Its connected where you would put the pins through to secure the rops in place
Is there any difference between the 2017 and 18? I don't think so. Mine's a 2018, I'm pretty sure. Good tractor, there's a couple things that tick me off a little about it, but no biggie.
I didn't know about the difference in hydraulics, is it significant? I can assure you that you didn't miss out on the seat, it still sux! I ended up tearing mine out and putting in a forklift seat.
I know they aren't like this, but these tractors to me seem like lawnmowers with a bucket on the front. It gives off the impression it can't do much. HOWEVER! With the amount of people buying these things they have to be pretty awesome for the money. Kinda like a Swiss army knife of tractors.
Yes definitely not like a riding lawnmower lol! I do have one of those too! I can see how one could think that without using one! But they are not even remotely the same! Besides the subcompact being quite a bit larger, the power it has versus a lawn tractor isn’t even comparable. My Massey can pull my 4500lb dump trailer like nothing, a lawn tractor struggles without a couple hundred pounds lol
Also a lawn tractor weighs a few hundred pounds, a sub compact, is a couple thousand pounds. So that right there will tell you how much different they are! Lol
Before you go out and buy all that equipment you're talking about consider a little bit bigger tractor I have this little subcompact like you've got there and it really just doesn't have a lot of power as far as the PTO goes you said you wanted a 5 ft box greater Blade no way will this tractor pull it I've got a 4-foot went on mine and you really can't pull a whole lot of dirt and gravel with it a little tractor just can't do it when I plow my garden the tires spin quite a bit there's just not enough weight there to do a decent job plowing and the thing that I really hate the most is if you get the bucket really full of dirt or gravel it just doesn't want to lift it the tractor starts bucking up and down enough that you really wish you had put the seat belt on
i am on the 5th year with the tractor and love it. I own a 4 foot box blade and pulls its loaded with gravel easily. Sounds like you need some rear ballast when you use your loader. I have never had my tractor buck up and down using the loader. Watch my other videos to see how loaded i have had my bucket with logs, many times! I would love a bigger tractor, but going one size up with a backhoe was literally twice the price. Cant justify that. The thing I wish I had the most was a cab.

Do you think the backhoe models would flex as much since they have the added support plates along the tractor?
Just a heads up to change the hour meter all they have to do is change the gauge cluster. Mine had 48 hrs on it and I had to have a new cluster put in and it came back showing 2 hrs.

I adjusted my rear pedal and gained considerable reverse speed
What' can it lift with pallet forks? For like unloading pallets of a pickup truck?
use them to lift whatever you like, move things around the yard on pallets, lift logs of firewood. i use mine to load my water tanks and for firewood, but i have lifted so many things with them!

have you tried starting it on starting fluid when it wont start? I assume it cranks? Any smoke?
Acreage Living it doesn’t crank at all, however the lights will turn on and it’s getting power from the battery, it doesn’t click but it buzzes like it should when I turn the key, when I turn it all the way it doesn’t make a noise at all, but when it does crank it starts right up with little smoke

If you keep it 15-20yrs, that 1 yr diff will make no matter.
I got back 50% of what I paid for a used Kubota B7100 20 yrs ago.
Hope you enjoy the Massey. I have the same model and it's done quite well for me. Enjoyed a full-watch of your video and am a New Subscriber.. 👍
Thank you! Massey has been great so far!
That's one hell of a deal man
Just bought mine 2019 without a backhoe for $11,900 brand new from dealer

Did you get the piranha toothbar and if so what size did you order?
i have not got one yet, i know a guy who just got one though and it was so sharp he cut his leg installing it!!
The tooth bar is amazing! I have a bxpanded snow plow as well and don't even have to take the bar off. I have the 2018 version and I love my tlb!
