Norberto Esbrez (November 22, 1966 - July 16, 2014) was an Argentine tango dancer, choreographer and teacher.[1]
A dancer and teacher of tango nuevo, he was known as El Pulpo or octopus for his fluid and intricate leg moves. Esbrez created and named several tango movements including: ocho loco, sentada girada, elevador, or el elástico. He explored the concept of trap sacadas (sacadas con agarre) and enganches into innovative variations.
His style was so well known that when the dancer starts combining several leg moves that look like Pulpo's it is being called pulpeadas. He developed the concept of suspension as a tool to generate the control and fluidity that is part of his dance.
He worked for theaters and show-places in Buenos Aires, such as: Teatro San Martin, Teatro Astral, Teatro Opera, Cafe Tortoni, El Viejo Almacen, La Ventana, Casablanca. He taught in Brazil as a member of the Academia Argentina de Tango. One of Esbrez's partners was Luiza Paes - they were part of the International Congress of Argentine Tango in Buenos Aires.

Oh, beautiful vídeo! Norberto was my first Tango teacher! I studied with him when he lived in Brazil. A great person and a wonderful heart! ❤
Норберто Эль Пульпо и Луизу Паез привозил Саша Вистгоф, они приезжали раза два точно, может и три в пору нашего танго младенчества. Скорее всего, не его техника нужна была в те времена, но пара оставила очень яркие впечатления. И семинары были потрясающие. И это была пара со своими чувствами, из другого мира, они были прекрасны , искренни , правдивы и когда любили, или выносили мозг) это безусловно невероятная техника, их приглашали на популярные фестивали в Европе, как изюминку. Я видела их на фесте в Амстердаме, их отлично принимали. Из того, что помню: они согласились участвовать в свой приезд в моем концерте в Домжуре, Норберто очень нравился мой номер с лимоном. Он говорил, что сюжет номера как его жизнь с Луизой) он были компанейские , бары, разговоры, пиво, сигареты) Как то на первом семинаре он рассказал о своем мне, что он танцевал под музыку русского композитора. Я не помню точно какого, возможно Рахманинова. А потом он включил его композицию и это было огромное впечатление! А как он подрался с назойливым приставакой на милонге в Кофе Ин! Как в ковбойском фильме, с опрокидываниям стола и работающими бокалами. А ночью поехал на семинар в Питер и танцевал в гипсе) Он был первым, кого я увидела на своей первой милонге в в БА, да еще в Канинге, куда пришла одна, жутко волнующаяся. Ну знаете, эти чувства! Усадил к себе за стол, познакомил со всеми за столом,, тепло общался, приглашал танцевать. Первая милонга получилась чудесной) Это дорогого стоит) Я его и в Эль Корте встречала и тоже чудесно общались и танцевали. Была и встреча с Луизой, долгий разговор, когда они уже расстались, в Кафедрале. Как то так)
