Ditto here. Just stumbled onto them some months back, and find all their work to be absolutely top shelf. Met Caleb at GMBR, to tell him how much I liked his work on the Dolly Parton tribute. He turned it around, thanking me. If you get the chance, go check them out. The real deal.
Norman Blake wrote this wonderful song. Caleb and Reeb have taken Norman's song to a whole new level. Just a fantastic talent these two musicians have together.
I really like this cover of Billy Gray a lot. Reeb's voice puts me in mind of Iris Dement - there is a certain purity and rawness to her voice that I really enjoy. BTW, if you dig around TH-cam there is also a cover by Korby Lenker that you'll surely like.
I must learn to pick this song! It has the same melodic, single guitar-possible melodic flat pick style that made me love “Wildwood Flower” from the moment I heard it. These two take it to a hypnotizing place of perfection!😍
Just lovely . I am on a walk with my soul as I live with Mesothelioma . I am helped by listening to music, often in the night when pain keeps me awake. You have become some of my favourite musicians to keep me company, along with the late Kate Wolf, Luke Kelly and the delightful Kate Rusby. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent. It is 4am New Years Day 2020. I start the new year with your lovely harmonies as I reflect that my journey my soon be at an end. Prayers and blessings from Uk.
Joe Dunne , thank you for your kind words . Still here listening to the music in the middle of the night and it helps enormously. Today my young grandson asked who that band was I liked to listen to. Well he went off and found the Foghorn String Band on TH-cam and I got text " great , love it Grandma!". Looks like the band now has a 7 year old fan.
@Matt Hurley. You might also enjoy a band called Planxty who were around at the same time as the Dubliners. Their vocalists, Christy Moore and Andy Irvine went on to successful solo careers. Andy just gets better with age ,but sadly their pipe player Liam o'Flynn died not so long ago. I'm listening to all the music that meant so much to me throughout my life and it's a huge comfort and brings back so many memories as I feel my strength ebbing and my own ability to sing in tune taken away by this damned disease. Prayers and blessings from UK.
Stick around awhile, Fay! That way, when the extinction-level asteroid comes, we can all point to the sky and say "Look up in the sky! It's an incoming extinction-level asteroid! How often do we get to see one of those?"
These two are really enjoyable. Reeb's rhythm guitar playing is so basic, but so good. If I could pick someone I could emulate in guitar, it would be Reeb. She plays rhythm exactly as I wished I could.
Very rare to see a young girl from NY. keeping the old time styles of music outta the hills. . you are a helluva siger an musician I watch you all the time an love it all.
So very good. The harmony is beautiful. I like how I could hear both guitars and voices equally. I liked the tune there at the end, as well. Would love to sit down and play music and sing with these two but would settle for hearing them live in concert again. :)
i wish you the very best,my name is andrew from poland, youstu live in USA for 20 years, and love country music.mayby my gramma is incorrect bat i love your music.!
Norman Blake is a genius, but this pair are pretty good too. One of my favourite songs from him. Would love to hear Caleb and Reeb sing Darcy Farrow, Ian and Sylvia made a good harmony version.

fantastic. wonderful performance . . . . i just heard 'billy gray' for the first time recently. i am now learning a piano version and i expect to post it on my TH-cam soon
March 2024, I was introduced to this song at the annual Celtic music festival in Evanston Wyoming, which my wife used to run, by a man who stood up and introduced it what is known in Celtic music as a session , with him singing it acapella, explaining that, unlike many songs sung by Irish musical groups, songs that originated in the East and moved to the west, that one originated in the West and moved to east as it was written by a westerner, and sang by Planxty under the name of " true love knows no season." I love this version and I love their version too!
TRUE LOVE KNOWS NO SEASON NO RHYME OR NO REASON...BUIT JUSTICE IS AS COLD AS THE GRANGER COUNTY CLAY !!! THETRUTH WITHOUT LOVE....IS A DANGEROUS WEAPON !!!!
Billy Gray rode into Gantry back in '83. There he did meet young Sarah McRae, That wild rose of morning, that pale flower of dawning, Herald of springtime in his young life that day. Now Sarah she could not see the daylight of reality. In her young eyes Billy bore not a flaw. Knowing not her chosen one was a hired gun, Wanted in Kansas City by the law. Now then one day a tall man came riding across the Badlands Lying to the north of New Mexico. He was overheard to say he was looking for Bill Gray, A ruthless man and a dangerous outlaw. Well the deadly news came creeping to Billy Gray, fast sleeping, There in the Claredon Bar and Hotel. He fled toward the old church there on the outskirts Thinking he'd climb to that old steeple bell. O but a rifle ball came flying, face down he lay dying There in the dust of the road where he fell. And Sarah she ran to him, just cursing the lawman, Accepting no reasons, knowing he was killed. Now Sarah lives in that same old white frame house Where she first met Billy some forty years ago. And that wild rose of morning, she's faded with the dawning Of each day of sorrow the long years have sown. Yes and written on a stone where the dusty winds have long blown Eighteen words to a passing world say: "True love knows no season, no rhyme, nor no reason. Justice is cold as the Granger County clay." Yes "True love knows no season, no rhyme, nor no reason. Justice is cold as the Granger County clay".
wow that old martin sure does sound good. is it a 0018, does anyone know what the top wood is, i think the sides are mahogany, i keep looking for a pickup but dont see one, what a great song and yes the whole band is great together.
the top wood is mahogany. There a lot of artists that use those old all mahogany guitars. I have a Triple O 15 SM recently built. Has similar sound. Try one if you can it'll surprise you.
I think it is a pre war 018 by the size of it! Those small guitars will fool you by the sound that comes out of them. I have an old 1943 0017 that literally plays itself!😋
Caleb plays a 1939 Martin 00-17 and Reeb plays a 1944 Martin 000-18. Yes, both are Mahogany back and sides. the 00-17 is a mahogany top and the 000-18 is a red spruce top.
I agree with the comment that you can’t help repeatedly playing this version of the song. I prefer Caleb on guitar with Reeb to his mandolin despite how good he is on that. The guitar and vocal harmony on this is wonderful.
TRUE LOVE KNOWS NO RHYME AND NO REASON.... IT IS FOREVER FROZEN IN TIME !!!
I can't get enough of Caleb and Reeb
same with me: two phantastic musicians, two lovely people, lovely song. goosepumps everytime i hear it

Greetings from lreland would you happen to know what year the song was written..?
@@cormacbailey775 According to Wikipedia, it was on Old and New which was released in 1975.

Tres jolie prestation ❤❤j écoute depuis le Sud de la France .
Music and singers are so beautifuls.
Thanks a lot for sharing 🎉
Something about this song I have to hear over and over again. Either their guitar picking together or or her voice blending with his. Infectious!!!
Yes, that's exactly what I think!
👌👍
I must learn to pick this song! It has the same melodic, single guitar-possible melodic flat pick style that made me love “Wildwood Flower” from the moment I heard it. These two take it to a hypnotizing place of perfection!😍
Caleeb n Reeb ...... like a morning greated by song birds.... I pray the blessings continue.....
Cheese, 🧀
We don’t know that yet!?
I can’t get enough of this duo.

A beautiful cover of one of my favorite Norman Blake tunes.
What a wonderful version of this song. And I enjoyed Caleb's "supplementary" tune which serves as a nice coda to it.
Love both of you and the Foghorn String Band!
