Didn't a X-02 fly alongside a ADF-01 Falken and a ADFX-01 Morgan over November International Stadium in its first airshow since the Circum-Pacific War?
You know. I always loved fighting the MTD in my F18 I found most people in-capable of taking me down. But *GOOD* MTD players could easily give me a run for my money and more often than not downed me.
Don't care what others say, this is my fave aircraft. In every Ace combat games I played, I grind for hours for this aircraft then replay the campaign on the most difficult setting and fly this as if it was my own aircraft. Sure there are other better options and aircraft but this one is just my fave. When I go to full afterburners and it changes to its high speed form is chocolate sundae to my eyes. When I engage to battle and it reverts back to its forward swept wing form is the cherry to that sundae. Ahhh yes, this really brings back so many memories. :3
A little clarification on the Grunder/Yuktobania deal: According to the ACX Perfect Guide, it wasn't the ISAF that got the X-02s following Katina, but the FCU. After Katina, the FCU started testing the X-02s, and these tests captured the attention of international companies. That's all the Perfect Guide said, but also keep in mind that Grunder had covertly pushed Yuktobania to develop the ADF-01, so what seems to have happened is that after the FCU started testing the X-02, Grunder saw it, developed a bootleg version for themselves, and shipped at least one to Yuktobania to help that country take on Osea. One was shot down, and sent to Sand Island likely to prevent an international incident. I'm surprised you didn't show the picture of the X-02 in the hangar from AC5's website here, but other than this, well done :D I love the design of the lore section especially. EDIT: Oh, also, I was under the impression that model kit was fan-made, not official.
An excellent beginning to this new series! Very complete and easy to follow, love the little diagrams to get visual recaps of the plane's history as well! As for what's next, I'd like to have you continue AC fictional aircrafts, preferably by returning to the roots, the very first fictional superplane we got to fly in the series, the (lovely and glorious and totally underrated) XFA-27! :D
At least they all have infinite afterburners and an ammunition-reserve based on same technology of Doraemon's pocket (of course not that advanced to imitate the capacity of an universe).
"What's not interesting is that you have an ex-convict in your squadron, it's that they're flying an ERUSIAN X-02 Strike Wyvern with High-Tech Railguns. Who the fuck is this new guy?" - Max0r
Hats off to the amount of detail put into your videos. Even for long-time fans it feels you really go that extra mile. Somehow the connection between the X-02, Gründer and Yuktobania entirely slipped by me for all this time. As for a suggestion, I'd say the CFA-44. Because it's one mean beast.
The wing retraction would need to be completed well before reaching Mach .8 to avoid some nasty wave drag. Realistically you’d want this process to be cartoonishly fast, while the bay door is open the wings wouldn’t make much lift and would be extremely draggy. For being stealthy, the intake nacelles aren’t great. Very abrupt joint between them and the fuselage. Planform alignment is frustrating, the canards are so close to being aligned with the wings but just aren’t for some reason. The intakes _might_ also cause problems with high alpha, obstructing free air into the engines. This sort of thing is why the typhoon has those little chin doors on its intake.
Extremely cool jet! Years ago I saw a nicely scratchbuilt model of the X-02 featured in an issue of Hobby Japan magazine, I wonder if Hasegawa ever produced a full production kit of this legendary fighter. If not, they should!! Yeah, right there @ 8:22 is what I'm talking about!
I'm really hoping that this series helps other people learn about the Sci-Fi elements of Ace Combat and just how awesome it is. That's part of what attracted me to Ace Combat in the first place.
I'd like to point out that the point of Ford swept wings like on the su-47 or x29 is so that supersonic flow originate at the base of the wing and not the tips with a conventional back swept design the supersonic flow starts at the tips of the Wings therefore forward swept wings are more maneuverable at high speeds yet the x-02 retracts it's forwards swept wings at high speeds
Great video, thanks for putting so much effort on these ! I'm really hyped to watch the next ones. Could you please review the Falken for the next video ? That would be awesome !
Actually the Westland Wyvern is a turboprop aircraft, uses a reaction engine with a centrifugal compressor (making it short and stubby) connected to a gearbox to move the propeller (cant be connecter directly because blade tips would go Mach > 1), plus the exhaust gasses may provide additional, but, secondary thrust

The stats are alreayd high enough, so I dont have to worry about parts that improve it. I can comfortable use parts that give extra missiles, do more damage, etc
It seems that the X-02 Wyvern is the inspiration 4 the F/A-37 Talon in the 2005 movie Stealth, except that the Wyvern retracts its outer wings into its inner main wings.
Your videos keep getting better and better. This will be one of my favorite playlist. I just finished your ACZ with commentary and I wonder if you would do another game with commentary
The design also seems relatively grounded as well. (As well as the CFA-44) However the retractable forward swept might be disregarded due to complexity and while maneuverable it has being proven to be inferior to regular wing designs.
Love the design from a visual point of view. But those wings always make me cringe. Opening the leading edge like that would act like a massive speed brake and cause stall on the wings surface. But even before that there is just no space to actually store the extended wing. I mean the entire center wing would have to be hallow to house the wing extension. A hallow wing of that size is structurally impossible. Then you would need a massive hinge in order to move something of that size parallel to the air flow. Have you guys seen the wingbox of a Tornado or F-14? I have seen the all titanium wingbox of a tornado in all its glory: That is one massive piece of kit I tell you: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a4/Tornado_variable_sweep_wing_Manching.JPG/1280px-Tornado_variable_sweep_wing_Manching.JPG Imagine you need something like that half way thru the wing and the hydraulics on top of it to move it. There is no way. It should have been a fixed forward swept wing design with fixed angled all moving V-tail.
2:28 Itz kinda a bit weird this plane was meant to be operated from aircraft carriers, because last I checked this thing has shittier fuel storage than most planes.....you would need long range to operate as a naval fighter :/
@@Groza_Dallocort That is a good guess but vectoring wont give enough leverage for stability at that speed. You need wind to keep ur aircraft from losing directional stabiliy.
