Its work, but one good thing to come from paper tapes, if bedded well, you have much fewer cracking possibilities. Even if you were still to skim it. After we got our house skimmed, we noticed a lot of cracking. I have now learned many skilled myself to do on a smaller scale (and I am a lot slower than the pro). one thing I did do differently is use paper tape rather than mesh. No crack at all where I have done this in contract to the trades skimmer.
@wes9384 yeah I'm with you on the paper tape but I don't get why they don't have a sticky side. Kinda like masking tape. Would make the job a lot easier
That was a great effort. Looks good. I did it on a house in France but the boards had a tapered edge so I only had to put the tape on and then a coat of skim to the level of the board A lot easier. Looking forward to your next video on skimming because I'm shit at that
@RunnersRunning cheers mate. I reckon skimming is easier than that stuff. Once you've mastered getting it from the hawk to the wall, then the rest is easy. But I will do a video that will give you a few tips to make it easier. I'll also do a video on the bulgarian plaster, so we can compare the differences
Well done. I do bathrooms and have taught myself to plaster over the years to the point people have hired me just to plaster. If you've never skimmed before, start small and work your way up to a whole room. Trying to sell my house in England and once I've got some cash in the bank I'm off to Bulgaria. Buy a place, do it up, get a dog and a bottle of wine and retire early. Keep doing the videos the place is coming on.
@paulross8418 cheers mate. I've never done a bathroom but bathroom and kitchen fitting is always something I've wanted to get into. I'm looking forward to doing mine. Have you ever done a steam room? Cus I've got an idea in my head to have a big shower cubical which also doubles up as a steam room, but not to sure how I'm gonna go about doing it yet 😂 Yeah definitely mate, sell up and get yourself over bulgaria, so much more relaxed pace of life 👌
@@andy_levis I've done loads of Wet Rooms but never a Steam Room. I'd say as long as everything is water tight (Decent Tanking Kit), Floor, Ceiling, Walls, decent drainage and extraction so the Bathroom's not sitting with moisture, stop any mould growth, Any adhesive/sealants you use can handle the temperature you're good to go. Good luck, it's not that hard.
@paulross8418 I think it's the extraction I'm trying to get my head round. I'm not sure how it works and haven't really looked into it yet properly. But obviously I don't want it to suck all the steam out, otherwise it will just be a room 😂 so do they kick in after your finished or is it some special kind you need for a steam room 🤷♂️ literally have no clue about this sort of thing, so i can see the bathroom being a fun experience 😂
Agree skimming it, knuff Finish available? Only thing about that finish I found you had to sponge it to get a decent Finish but was years ago when I used it
I think you must first stick the tape to the plasterboard and then the plaster, maybe it is not sticky enough due to a bad quality tape ?, or maybe the tape is to old, and therefore not sticky anymore. Not fine but keep going, looks great already !
@advandrunen2501 that's what i thought, but done some research and jointing tape isn't meant to be sticky. You are meant to apply it with the compound. To me it would make sense and the job easier if the tape was sticky. Maybe there is a gap in the market there 🤔
also put a loop of string through the tape roll and tie on your belt , makes it easier than holding the tape roll and knife at the same time .

@@andy_levis I guess there is more strength in it when bedded plus Adhesive would more likely fail because of some minor dust compared to compounds

Looks great to me,Andy especially for first time, practice makes perfect
@philiplitchfield9625 cheers mate 👍
Love your work. I always screw up home improvement...
@FreeSpeech-q7v thank you. Keep going, you'll get better the more you do 😁
best to get boards that are bevelled on all sides much easier to get a good finish . But good first try.
I think you did a good job considering it was your first attempt. Well done.

“I’ve never done this before”. Thanks now I’ll move onto the next video.

I must say that for someone who did it all by himself and it's his first time, you did pretty well. Cheers, mate!
