Super Great Review👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽I had/still do have alot of Big Jim figures/playsets as a kid and let me tell you it's nice to see reviews done on him. You broke it down perfectly and the slow mo karate chop was AWESOME. This toy line is a 4 gotten one and I dont understand why.
Yeah I don't know if it's the rapid release of toy lines in North America that toy lines like this get forgotten. Overseas saw more expansion on Big Jim from what I found in research. Thanks Anthony for watching and comment!👍
Big Jim was the favored toy amongst me and my friends. Between us we had a lot of gear. I had the racing motorcycle, the jungle truck and the camp set; another friend had the camper; two brothers had the plane, kung fu studio and rescue rig. Those were the days.
i love Big Jim. i was fortunate enough to grab 2 in a lot years ago. They're in great condition, but now thanks to you, i know how to clean them properly.
@@ToyTinkerTim We thought the toys would be safe in the drawers but they climbed the dresser from underneath and build nests among the toys. Biggest Losses were the Big Jim, Masters of the Universe figures, and Thundercats, they got chewed up and peed on. Thanks for the sentiment.
Born in 68.... here in the U.K it was rebranded as Mark Strong... i had one with a few different outfits...Soccer Player , Skier and Karate outfit.... loved this toy as a 5 or 6 year old....even have a couple of Photo of me playing with it back in the Yonder years.....anyone ever seen a soccer player wearing ski's? lol
I love my Big Jim as a kid I bought a couple that need the head fixed a whole back but everything else works great. Thank you do much for this review and I hope there is more too come
Thank you for making this great review. Living in the UK I don't recall Big Jim from back in the day but I have heard the name since I started to collect vintage toys. Well now I know a bit more about him, Thank you.
Nice video! I just started reacquiring the Big Jim stuff that I had as a kid. Big Jim, Big Jeff, the plane, the camper, as well as some stuff I didn't have back then. The Elsinore Dirt bike, the Rescue Rig (which my next door neighbor friend had) as well as Big Jack and Big Josh. In '78 I had moved on to Star Wars and I didn't even know all that great European stuff existed. I also didn't know, until doing my ebay searches, about the camper and plane being repurposed from Barbie lines. I'm not too sure how happy I would've been, as a kid, about that.
Very cool! 👍 Same with about the toy lines, when Star Wars came out all attention shifted that way. There are so many cool figures and sets from the Big Jim Mattel line, the dirt bikes and vehicles are pretty awesome. Thanks for watching!
My brother and I each got one of these for Christmas one year. I think we lost the baseballs in the first 5 minutes of playing with them. We also got the Sports Camper at the same time. I got several other figures in the series later. The biggest problem I had was that the ball joints would break off. That was definitely the weak point of the toy. So, until I got some superglue, I had Double-Leg-Amputee Big Jim. The other problem was his arm muscle mechanism would eventually rip through the rubber skin.
You're right. I think I went through 3 before I gave up on them. NEVER attempt to spread his legs or one will fall off. This WAS during the Nixon administration so this was probably a deliberate conservative design.
How many memories and how many Big Jim did I have! And I broke them all ... 😢Of Sandokan with the gorilla, karateka, soccer player, the one in the video ... 🇪🇦
Yeah even if if you don't add Big Jim to your collection it's always interesting to find out the background on these figures, I learned quite a bit researching for this episode. Thanks for watching Robert!
Hello great video and information. Does anyone have the instructions sheet and images of the triangular mark strong box for uk. I have made up a draft carboard box but need scans of the three sides top and bottom to be able to finish the box
Great informative vid 👍 however in your timeline you didn’t include Mego’s entry into to boys action figure market with Action Jackson. Btw I had no idea about the baseball accessory. I have a boxed original Jim - now I’d better check 😉
I'm sure it was a agreement like with Hasbro and Plaitoy making their line overseas. Some of the Kid Acero figures are really awesome! I think the Invisible Man and Bionic version figures are very cool, just way out of my financial means however.
I had a couple of these and I don't remember any muscle band. My dad (who didn't want me playing with dolls) probably swiped it as he saw some potential use for it in his garage. It was so disappointing to bend that arm and see a bi-cep bulge yet bend that leg and ... ... nothin'
Collectors probably would get into that. When Mattel pulled the plug in 1985, fans of the toy line overseas were quite disappointed by Mattel's decision. Thanks for checking out the episode!
When you got to 1984 on your timeline you should have mentioned A Real American Hero which was widely popular and is probably what finally killed big jim.
It's definitely stamped '71, Mattel like other toymakers file patents before the toys are released (Kenner Star Wars figures C 1977, first figures released in 1978). Got to protect your work🙂👍 Thanks for watching -

I remember there were 4 Big Jim, Jhon, Jeff and Jack
So glad I was born in 1972, was the greatest decade for toys! 🔥🔥🔥
Like me!
Definitely my all-time favourite toys. I can still remember the hours of fun after 40 years! 😁👍
Some of the best toys we ever had growing up in the 70's were Big Jim toys!! We loved them.

That sounds like it was a great set-up!

I had this original Big Jim figure. My sister had a loose tooth and I used the chopping feature to knock her tooth out. Believe it or not it worked.
Wow Big Jim the dentist 😂 hopefully your sister was up for the experience for action figure tooth extraction 😁🦷
Lots of serious competition and great action figures.
i love Big Jim. i was fortunate enough to grab 2 in a lot years ago. They're in great condition, but now thanks to you, i know how to clean them properly.
Thanks Blake, it's a pretty cool line for sure, glad I can help!
Had one as a kid and kept it in a cabinet in the garage, felt bad when I had to throw him away after mice had their way with him.
Oh no, that's too bad. I'd not heard of that before but I not too surprised by what mice can do

Talk about perfect timing! I just dug out a bag of childhood Big Jim's. 👍🏻
Perfect!
Old memories...😍
Thank you for your video.
This was my favorite action figure...and when the P.A.C.K showed up

I wish I could have him.. Always wanted one.
Mentioning Major Matt Mason got me hopeful that one day you might feature the line :)
Another great video btw👍🤘
Thanks, and by the way yes. I have multiple episodes in the works😉
nice content, btw is there some place where we can order brand new big jim toys? thanks
I had a 'Mark Strong' doll when I was a kid (UK).
Odd that I never had one of these, I guess I was more into the Mego superhero figures during the mid 70s and then Star Wars later on
I had a bunch of Mego Super Heroes too, a lot went to pieces but they were great 😊
How many memories and how many Big Jim did I have! And I broke them all ... 😢Of Sandokan with the gorilla, karateka, soccer player, the one in the video ... 🇪🇦
Too bad to hear about the breakage, but you still have the memories - and there's eBay to find them 👍
Well I never had a Big Jim growing up in the 70's but who know I may pick one up one day~~~Great video as always Tim!

WHY are these not still produced and sold???
If only Mattel wanted to market again Big Jim ...
I had the one with the machete, but I don’t remember his name. He was some sort of Island figure.
Great video. Was the Big JIm karate chop the first action feature for action figures?
I had a mark strong figure in the 70,s one of my favourite toys it was much better than action man !
I had a lot Of the Big Jim,Big Jack,Big Jeff, Dr.Steel.
I always enjoy these videos!!
Armour all is excellent for cleaning and protecting plastics and rubber.
Tim you forgot to mention the MEGO LINE it was very big in the 70s.
Great informative vid 👍 however in your timeline you didn’t include Mego’s entry into to boys action figure market with Action Jackson. Btw I had no idea about the baseball accessory. I have a boxed original Jim - now I’d better check 😉
Thanks Ken! So many cool toy lines that take place during the time chart aren't there! I've still got my Action Jackson figures too👏
You’ll be relieved to know that my original Big Jim accessories are still sealed in their baggy - including the baseball 👍
Very nice 👍
I would Love to have an Big Jim Action figure!
Thank you☺👌
Welcome 😊

4th, a personal best.
Also try using some warm water and baking soda to clean the rubber parts
Why was the Kid Acero Jim only available in Mexico? Some of the figures were so cool
I'm sure it was a agreement like with Hasbro and Plaitoy making their line overseas. Some of the Kid Acero figures are really awesome! I think the Invisible Man and Bionic version figures are very cool, just way out of my financial means however.
If the head came off it was impossible to put back on. I used glue on mine.
Only Mark Strong in the UK, the line was a disaster so never made it to Big Jim, it did well on mainland Europe.
I had a couple of these and I don't remember any muscle band. My dad (who didn't want me playing with dolls) probably swiped it as he saw some potential use for it in his garage. It was so disappointing to bend that arm and see a bi-cep bulge yet bend that leg and ... ... nothin'
Mattel should make 12-inch Big Jim 'repro' figures. I think a lot of collectors would like them.
Matell made the body of he man out of clay from big jim😁
He looks like David Hasselhoff! 🙃
I could have sworn it said copyright 1971 on the back of him?

@@ToyTinkerTim thanks for clarifying that for me, great video and toy line. This and Kenner's Six Million Dollar Man were my fave toys off all time.
