Ikr, to be honest most of the presentation were soulless. Its It's just so boring that I become soulless during presenting just because i must do the slide format that lecture want me to. And it's also why I really enjoy this one.

I have to say that when it comes to lectures and seminars, I actually do appreciate when the presentation covers all the key information and the lecturer makes it available for download or e-mails to all students, so I don't have to take notes for every single thing they say. I even print the presentation if it's extra valuable. I want to do this for my own students as well.
@@crstube I find it unnecessary to create extra documentation when it can all be covered in the slides. My actual handouts are worksheets for practical assignments.

Very nice job. I can't begin to tell you how many terrible presentations I've had to suffer through. There is absolutely no reason that someone can't create a a compelling presentation. Just take a few minutes and watch a couple of TED X presentations. 20 minutes seems to be the sweet spot.

Great tips as always, Pat! Just couple of things - first, after your dark slide, it is important that your next slide is not too bright. KISS - Pat shows that this formula works doesn't he? Keep. It. Simple. Stupid. (or perhaps; Keep. It. Supremely. Simple.) Too often (and I'm guilty as charged) we use too much text, use it as a crutch, then read it off the slide because we're not very confident in what we're doing, and then lose the audience. I intend to follow Pat's nine rules to the letter in future. It takes more work, and it takes more preparation, but the quality of what we present will be so much better! Thank you Pat. These tips are definitely helpful if you want to "catch" the audience without the need of many hardfacts like financial ratios. But if you present in front of a class in university or in front of your colleges on the job, than there is much more information that a presentation need to cover.

People are complaining that the intro is too long, but some can’t even distinguish “to” from “too,” they shouldn’t be complaining! If they’re looking up how to do a PowerPoint they shouldn’t judge or be pointing out what they didn’t like. Learn to listen! Thanks for all the great tips!
Good comments in this video. One caveat, know your audience. If you’ve got a standard approach in a company or group, then deviation from that standard runs risk. So use these ideas to modify and improve an existing approach. Don’t try and be a revolutionary to an unprepared or unreceptive audience. For instance, Japanese business people love lots of data. To eliminate that from a business presentation makes you look unreliable. Instead use things like the light box idea to help draw the eye.
