When I was in Middle School, There was a girl I liked a lot and all my friends knew it (Of course they kept it a secret.) I Told my dad about it and he told me to ask her out (like every father would) So the next week comes and I finally ask her to go to the movies with me, and she agrees. I felt so Happy and I wanted it to be perfect, when the movie ended, My father drove her home and I managed to get her Snap. We texted for about 2 weeks until she went dead silent On me. 3 Months Later... Its July and I'm doing my thing and Playing in the summer heat, when out of know where she texts me and asks how I'm doing, I say I'm doing fine and that the summer heat was killing me, She replied same and asked if we could get some Ice Cream, I reluctantly agree and take her, when we got to B.R I order a simple ball of ice cream, While she gets 2 scoops with M&M's, Chocolate Sauce, and Sprinkles (I Paid 18 Dollars for both of us.) I eat mine and she eats hers and after a hour she goes home. I immediately start texting her and what shocks me was that after 1 week she went dead silent AGAIN. 5 Months pass... Its Winter break and I'm at home chilling in my jammies, I get another text from her saying how she wants to "hang" with me and I ask what she wants to do, and she replies with bowling with her friends. When I heard this I was ready for my parents to take me, but my mom stops me and asks "Will she Be Paying for herself" And so being me I text her but she doesn't reply. I say she will and that I will have fun, When I arrive I hope out and meet her 3 other friends (ALL GIRLS BTW) And as where setting up and getting ready I do some math and the total comes to $126.37 for 3 games and pizza, I ask her and her friends for some money so that we can play, but she then whispers in my ear "We Forgot to bring Money" Hearing those words made me snap! I immediately start yapping on how come she didn't bring money and she looks me dead in the eyes and says "Your a Man, Just Pay for it so we can have fun!" I hated hearing that so much, I wiped around and told the man to cancel my order and I walked away to go home. While this is happening she's screaming in the back of my head for being the worst person in the world and how I have no manners for "ladies." Hey so I “tolerate” a lot of my “friends” and here are some things to look out for, 1) short reply’s 2) never starts the conversation 3) never wants to hang out unless they get something from it 4) never ask how your doing 5) this is a big one, never asks basics question. Like “what’s you fav animal?” Ect 6) you always see them hanging out w/ other people and starting the conversations with ppl they actually like (Edit) Hey I just realized that I think the reason I do this is because I am depressed. I hang out with people that I don’t like but they consider us friends a lot so I thought I was just uninterested because I don’t like them. Let's just wait for the other person to receive the power of foresight and realize, through their immense self-deprecation issues as well, that the conversation a simple "Hey, what's up?" from them would start is eventually fruitless. Thus, they choose to let the other person control the conversation and hope to whatever celestial being out there that the one who kept starting the convo doesn't feel like the friendship (lowballing it for the sake of everyone) isn't going anywhere. The point is, there's a few risks you and the other have to take to better understand each other. I had convos with other people before that I start more than three times. Granted, they're not really my friends, but that's usually the point of a convo, isn't it? To develop a passion for conversing with other people, and to learn from what they can give you?

Maybe some do, but take this time to rediscover yourself and what works/what kind of friends do you want to associate with? Are they going to grow with you, be with you through the rough times? Look out for the signs, use this experience to seek better ones.

Thats "stop texting first and see who still texts you" can backfire extremely hard. There are also a lot of people who are too anxious to actually text someone or make plans. If someone feels unwanted, not messaging them anymore can just enforce the idea in their head that their friends really didn't care after all. You need to know who you can do it with, and who might just not be the person to message first in a friendship.

I don't think swoozie means to try this with ALL your friends, just the ones you feel you might be simping over too much to stop yourself from putting attention where it's not deserved. Also, as someone who has BEEN in the anxiety-catch-22 of "if they don't text me, they don't want me, so I can't reach out", I'd like to say to whoever is reading this... if you feel like 'That's me!' then I highly recommend actively trying to move on from that mindset. You aren't doing yourself any favors, nor your friends. I saw in another comment someone waiting for the right tools to grow (ie. another person). Stop. Don't be a wallflower, be a tree. Bend and find the sunlight, grow roots and find water. You're responsible for your own survival, and you can do it. You can.
That's true for some people, but the majority of people aren't like that. Most people will text you if they actually want to talk to you. It's highly unlikely all of your friends will be that level of anxious. If they are, you should probably get new friends anyway because it's not healthy to have all your friendships be so insecure.
Real friendship is when both sides make an effort to help each other. Insecure friends who feel unwanted who is always waiting for the other to reach out. That sounds like a one sided friendship, because the insecure friend will never first reach out the other friend.
This is an extremely unhealthy worldview I- among with many others of my generation- sometimes hold when in a bad mood; that everyone finds us either boring or obnoxious. I have to remind myself constantly that it's obviously not true, there's plenty of truly nice ppl out in the world (including my doctors, friends on discord and even random ppl I meet while waiting for my appointments!) and that a lot of my suffering is actually self-inflicted. The world is as of now buried deep in a lotta shit, but underneath that shit is a goldmine of genuine goodness that can help heal us all in these shitty times

Hey so I “tolerate” a lot of my “friends” and here are some things to look out for,
1) short reply’s
2) never starts the conversation
3) never wants to hang out unless they get something from it
4) never ask how your doing
5) this is a big one, never asks basics question. Like “what’s you fav animal?” Ect
6) you always see them hanging out w/ other people and starting the conversations with ppl they actually like

I hang out with people that I don’t like but they consider us friends a lot so I thought I was just uninterested because I don’t like them. I actually have a rule for that. If I start the conversation more than 3 times, means the person its not really intereted in talking to you, so I just dont message them anymore.
That's a very good tactic. I've been the one to usually text first and when I stopped said person would say " we don't talk anymore" and I'm like I wonder why

Let's just wait for the other person to receive the power of foresight and realize, through their immense self-deprecation issues as well, that the conversation a simple "Hey, what's up?" from them would start is eventually fruitless. Thus, they choose to let the other person control the conversation and hope to whatever celestial being out there that the one who kept starting the convo doesn't feel like the friendship (lowballing it for the sake of everyone) isn't going anywhere.
The point is, there's a few risks you and the other have to take to better understand each other. I had convos with other people before that I start more than three times. Granted, they're not really my friends, but that's usually the point of a convo, isn't it? To develop a passion for conversing with other people, and to learn from what they can give you?

Thats "stop texting first and see who still texts you" can backfire extremely hard. There are also a lot of people who are too anxious to actually text someone or make plans. If someone feels unwanted, not messaging them anymore can just enforce the idea in their head that their friends really didn't care after all. You need to know who you can do it with, and who might just not be the person to message first in a friendship.

I don't think swoozie means to try this with ALL your friends, just the ones you feel you might be simping over too much to stop yourself from putting attention where it's not deserved. Also, as someone who has BEEN in the anxiety-catch-22 of "if they don't text me, they don't want me, so I can't reach out", I'd like to say to whoever is reading this... if you feel like 'That's me!' then I highly recommend actively trying to move on from that mindset. You aren't doing yourself any favors, nor your friends.
I saw in another comment someone waiting for the right tools to grow (ie. another person). Stop. Don't be a wallflower, be a tree. Bend and find the sunlight, grow roots and find water. You're responsible for your own survival, and you can do it. You can.
That's true for some people, but the majority of people aren't like that. Most people will text you if they actually want to talk to you. It's highly unlikely all of your friends will be that level of anxious. If they are, you should probably get new friends anyway because it's not healthy to have all your friendships be so insecure.
