That's absolutely brilliant. That's what's great about these small towns and old rinks. It's gotta be one of the oldest rinks anywhere still operating. Not just Saskatchewan.
The oldest still going was built in 1910 although it closed for a while. There are a couple from the 1890s but they aren't used as arenas anymore. I know my hometown Cambridge, Ontario says it has the oldest continuously operated arena from 1922. Thats only a few years before this one so it's definitely gotta be up there
Without any screen mesh or glass around the boards, you learn to pay attention to the game as a spectator. I love the old rinks. You'd have to take your skates off between periods to warm up your feet.
Yeah there is no way that entrance follows any safety guidelines you have to wonder what kind of safety standards they have in that town. Some kid falls down the stairs then the community wakes up.
Looks like they need donations. Those stairs look well used. Hope they clean the grease trap and ventilation regularly..that's what would be the end of their history. Thanks for sharing

That’s so cool. I remember growing up watching hockey in an old rink like that.
Cool

Love it!! ❤️🇨🇦
Oh dang this built 1920's
That’s a beautiful thing, all of it. I’ve never seen a preserved old hickey rink or Zamboni
I grew up playing in a rink exactly like this. No stairs but definitely an old barn
LOVE THIS! ❤️
I saw a match in Siberia with a rink like that.
Standing room only. They didn't have those fancy pulleys though.
New World Tech is tops.
This has got to be one of the most Canadian thing ever. How can we put are kids are risk without really putting them at risk! This is awesome.
They built things to last back in the day 👍. You don't need big screens, fancy scoreboards loud music ..... to play hockey.
Yeah these days ice is not the same

They're not a pansy like you

This is unique!
Pre-NANNY State.. When we all grew up just fine.
I'd go there for the food, then pass the biscuit to my bud on the rink.
Players really shouldn’t be on the stairs, when the stair drops.
That's how it works. It needs the player's body weight to make it go down.
If only they were wearing stuff that protects them from impacts eh?
@@A.C._Taylor Hockey players aren't wusses. eh
