Well, this list is wrong for one major reason: Blue-Eyes isn't on the list. As we all know from the anime, Blue-Eyes is the spirit of a girl Kaiba's ancestor had the hots for, so the dragon MUST be a girl.

@@MercuryA2000 some honorifics are gendered. Most commonly used ones aren't really, but some might be biased towards one gender or the other. Compounding, honorifics usage in anime/manga doesn't really match how they're used in formal or spoken language.
Does the anime or manga ever elaborate which cards refer to individual characters and which ones refer to species? Like obviously the divine beasts are at least a lot closer to unique singular entities and the magicians might be individual people with a particular backstory, but plenty of beasts and insects clearly are just generic examples of their species most of which should have both males and females (unless they're monogender Cyber Dragons ofc).

Forbidden Memories has two monsters:
Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon, and Not Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon
Also known as Meteor B Dragon
If for some reason you aren't running dragons, female is the second best archetype. It's quite a bit worse, but not as much as the gap between female and whatever's in 3rd place.

Female is a legit archetype in Duelists of the Roses. It is probably one of the strongest strategies; many equips and MANY very easy and strong fusions. There is also cards that try to counter women like The Immortal of Thunder that reduces their attack.

Honestly it was probably made because the anime, manga and some video games, made gender actually relevant to the context/gameplay. Some cards have made up effects involving gender and the video games had female archetypes.

My only contribution to this is Candle of Fate. While it's not on the Female list it is technically a Female monster since Malevolent Nuzzler in the game Duelist of the Roses can only be equipped to Fiend Female monsters. Candle of Fate despite being a wax hand can be buffed by this.
While the text on Nuzzler says female fiend it can actually be used on female monsters and fiend monsters. Candle of fate is no unique case, sadly. The state of the candles gender we will never know for sure, truly a tragedy.

@@PugandOwn Unfortunately all this means is that the game has a bunch of inaccurate card text, typos and a few bugs here and there because they wanted the game out for christmas back in 2001. What a masterpiece it would have been if they would have had more than a few months to work on it.

1. It was referred to as "she" in the anime or manga, so that's how we know the genders of some of the signer dragons (Thanks?)
2. Based on mythology and assumes from there, like Quilla or the Infernoids.

I can't tell if it'd be better or worse if there was also a second list for explicitly male monsters, and potentially a 3rd for a-gender and nonbinary? On the one hand if we have one of these, why not all of them, but on the other, why do we need any of them?

I don't think most people realize that Yu-Gi-Oh is translated into romantic languages that use gender in their names 90% of the time. Jain, for instance, is literally a "Luminoso" a and not a "Luminosa" like other Lightsworn cards such as Lumina.

I wonder how consistent and accurate those translations are though. Heck Guild Wars 2 is a decently large MMO and it had a bug where random enemies were gendered based on your player character. Wouldn't be surprised if some budget translation of Parlor Dragonmaid ended up masculine based on the grammatical gender of "Salon" in French and German.
@@Photoloss The thing is, even if there are genders of things like "millions" (to use Eater of Millions), the actual noun describing the monster will more likely be correct (Devorador, the "Eater" part, being masculine as compared to Devoradora). Otherwise the archetypes and adjectives would probably be more hand picked, as Lightsworns specifically alternate between Luminoso/a whereas certain archetypes, such as Dragonmaids, who are mono-gendered, use only Dragoncella as their key word. Essentially, if not a part of an archetype which would be given more attention, a card would likely have enough adjectives or something of the sort where one of them would be correct, and if they didn't match with each other the issue would probably be noticed and fixed.

Actually in old school Yu-Gi-Oh games you could fuse two monsters by just placing one card onto the other.
You basically needed to match monsters with specific ,,tags" and less attack points than the desired fusion monster.
A card being female is a fusion tag in these games. Their fusion monster lineup included Witch of the Black Forest, Autumn Queen, Nekogal #2 and Mystical Sand Witch.
The reason you could do that in those old games is because they were made before the game came out, and the designers had very little to go on as to the actual rules of the game.

Depending on the game you are playing it's either summoned or it gets tapped (you can't play it for a turn) and you have to normal summon it on your next turn.

Considering Blue-Eyes White Dragon is canonically a female monster, by virtue of how Blue-Eyes is a manifestation of Kisara's spirit; we can all agree that list of "All female monsters" was flawed from the beginning.
Imagine the world were konami actually comitted to giving the monsters a gender. And then show card artwork with the most "stereotypically male looking" monsters having "female" as gender, and viceversa. Almost like that joke from Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack that, as punchline, had a dog making meow noises.

What's also kinda messed up is that Blue-Eyes isn't on the list, even though in the anime the card is specifically created from/represents the soul of a woman. This might be highly uncharitable, but it really feels like they didn't include Blue-Eyes on this incredibly stupid list because the fact that it's canonically female makes them uncomfortable because they grew up idolizing it. I mean, if you're gonna put so many cards arbitrarily on there for flimsy reasons, there can't be any excuse for not including Blue-Eyes on there. Don't get me wrong, I think making the list is a bad idea in the first place, but they didn't even commit to making it because for some reason they drew the line at "big fuck off dragon can't be female".

@@catsarecool9773 yeah, maybe. Maybe someone tried to add it but someone else was like "No goddammit my favorite monster is NOT a girl!!!" and removed it. I think it's definitely a possibility.
Imagine including countless monsters/ cards on the list because they happen to include another monster/ monster card that is more reasonably on the list regardless of what the card in question actually focuses on, but not including Blue-Eyes. One of the few gender neutral designs that actually has lore to put it on the list and it's absent, but Eater & Strawman make the list because of cameos.
Maybe it's a Duelist of the Roses thing? idk, is Blue-Eyes in there & if so, is this "They can't be equipped with Malevolant Nuzzler so they can't be female" situation?
My guess with some of these (like the Infernoids) were designated as female in those weird lore books? That's my only possible guess for some of these, but some of them are utterly baffling
The thing is all the infernoids are just robot bodies used by Tierra (WHO IS SPECIFIED AS MALE) so I straight up could not tell you why aside from maybe they're named after female mythological beings
The infernoid he showed is named "Lilith" in japanese. Lilith is a female demon.
@@RamixTheRed tierra is called goddess in japanese, same with sophia. Edit: they are not gendered in japanese but the lore specifies sophia as female and they both have the same kanji to their title, souseishin. Who knows.
I'm not sure why they made the list but I know in Magic I appreciate the Female legends lists so I can build commander decks around them.

And yes, typically in Japan, if a character is dressed as a female, they are a female, unless otherwise stated and/or implied at some point.
And for all intents and practical purposes, there are only two genders.

okay but I have a strange thought about the whole "women playing yugioh" debate... who cares? Genuine serious question, who the actual fuck cares? And if you do care then please stop playing yugioh, and I mean that on both sides of the gender coin. If you're a guy and you care about "the impact of women playing yugioh" whether it's that you're concerned about women in a male centric environment like locals or tournaments (seriously touch grass and contribute to society if that's the case) or if you're a woman that's up her own arse about representation to the point where that becomes more important to you than actually having fun playing the game (calm the hell down it's just a children's card game) or even if you're that part of the coin that isn't either face and instead are one of the many grooves on the side and yet you too are crying about representation, please leave yugioh alone.
Yugioh means a lot to me as both a hobby and a community. One of the reasons for that was because it was something fun that I could connect with people over, it didn't matter what labels that person had, it didn't matter if they were a certain race or gender or whatever because all that mattered was that we had fun together. Representation means nothing if the game's not fun to play. I just hope that the community remembers that.
Speaking of females, the Yugioh universe might also be classified as "Hot Chick Heaven" because there's such a mess of very beautiful and tough women that it will make you love the franchise even more! And since Valentine's Day is around the corner, I've been inspired to make a top 10 list of the most beautiful female Yugioh characters. Grab yourself a snack and a glass of orange juice, and try not to reach through the screen because HERE WE GO!
