  • macmost.com/e-... You can set up bookmarks in a Pages word processing document and then create links in other text to jump to those bookmarks in PDF readers. With a new feature in Pages 8.1, you can also create links in page layout documents to jump from text to a specific page in the document.

    Thanks for the info. I need to delve more into Pages because I'm using it to write an eBook. As you predicted, Pages can now be exported to EPub (no more iBook Author). BTW... I love your vids.

    Why would I not be given the option to add a link. I see it under format, but the actual options are greyed out.

    Excellent - now, how to add a text only link in a Page doc to a webpage?

      That is the big question. Being able to go across documents would have much more useful. At the moment I want to take a couple of paragraphs and move it to a new doc so I can have a fresh new page to work on that section. I still want to link the old one to the new one because the end result will be for the two files to be brought back together.

    • @accentontheoff
      @accentontheoff 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KipVaughan Yes that would be terrific. Wonder if MS Word does it.

    Any way to also add the destination page number? I need to make a printed book with a list of names that point to different places in the document; and, while I’m writing it, text may move to different pages.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do that inside a table of contents, but not a link.

    Great video thanks! ...I have the problem that if I copy a TH-cam link inside Pages it appears as a video (thumbnail), but I need it to be a normal link. How can I change that behaviour?

    Is there a way to go back to the page you were on after you hit the link, so you don’t have to scroll back up?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is this a document you are creating? If so, I suppose you could create a link back at that point. Depends on how you design your document.

      @@macmost So I successfully made bookmark links, and I exported it to pdf, and have been using the pdf in books on iPhone. However, after I click a link once, I can no longer click it a second time. Meaning it won’t link me to the page I linked it to, and I have to delete the pdf and resend it from my computer. Is there anyway around this? Thanks

    • @macmost
      @macmost  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nitrospice1222 Not sure why it would be doing that for you. Which app are you using to view the PDF? Have you tried simply force-quitting that app instead of that whole delete-resend? And what are you doing to "resending" it anyway -- if this if your iPhone aren't you just looking at the file on iCloud Drive?

    • @nitrospice1222
      @nitrospice1222 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@macmost I’m using the pdf through the Books app. And I am sending it through airdrop from my laptop

    • @macmost
      @macmost  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nitrospice1222 So why not sync it through the Books app? Why the more difficult route of using AirDrop if they are both your devices? Also, try it in the Files app to see if your issue comes up there. Try other PDFs in the Books app too to see if it is a problem with that one. And does it work again if you force-quit Books and relaunch? Lots to try. Contact Apple Support otherwise.

    Hi. Is there a way to make links made in MacBook 'pages' open in a separate tab?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Links to what? Websites? Whether they open in a new tab depends on the individual's settings for their web browser, not how the link in Pages is set.

    • @banburydrumtuition8651
      @banburydrumtuition8651 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost Yes. My son created a document in pages which has links to Spotify, Instagram etc but when I open the links (I use Google Chrome) it closes the PDF file and opens the Socal Media site separately, rather than, what I think should happen, open in separate tabs, so the user doesn't have to go back to the email link to reopen the PDF (Pages) file. If that makes sense?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@banburydrumtuition8651 Right. That should be a setting in your browser app, not something set in the PDF.

    I've been looking all over the place trying to find a way to link from one Pages document (file) to another Pages document (file) on my local system. I can't for the life of me find a way to do this. Is this not possible in Pages?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do it, but it doesn't work while in Pages. It does work once you have exported as a PDF. Just use a webpage link and start it with file:/// and then the full path like Users/homefoldername/subfolder/subfolder/something.pdf

    • @michellejodoin8319
      @michellejodoin8319 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost Thanks. I have tried that. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I did >File>Open from a browser and copied the URL into the link in Pages to make sure I didn't make a typo, and no luck. I click on "Open Link" and it sits there, stubbornly, doing nothing.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michellejodoin8319 But did you export as a PDF and try it while viewing the PDF in Preview? That's where it would work. Also, make sure it is another PDF you are linking to.

    • @michellejodoin8319
      @michellejodoin8319 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost Sorry. I guess I wasn't clear. I tried using file:/// and the full path, but with a link from one Pages document to another, not to PDF. These are documents that I update all the time. Saving them as PDFs really defeats the purpose. It's looking more and more like functionality linking two or more Pages documents together - so that when you click on the link, it launches another Pages document -- simply doesn't exist. :(

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michellejodoin8319 Right. See my first comment. That just doesn't work in Pages. I didn't know what you were doing, specifically, so I mentioned that it does work once you produce a PDF in case that was what you really needed.
