damn Wayne, that was a nightmare of a motor. it was obviously a return that they sent you. good for you for sticking with it and contacting Hangkai. Good for them to step up and try and make it right. Looking forward to the new and improved motor segment.
What a beautiful piece of junk you got, Wayne. That was hilarious. I had a good laugh watching you unboxing it. It's a caricature of what Chinese stuff can be. Unfortunately, it's too big to end up as a paperweight. A boat anchor, as suggested by someone else can be a good option! I do hope you eventually got a running engine from the dealer, but I have no doubt it won't be as good and reliable as your e-propulsion engine. Let's see....
Wayne, don't pay retail shipping, use pirate shipping, it's what online retail sellers use to save as much as 60% off.. It still goes thru ups/usps you just get a better deal.
How am I supposed to eat my Thanksgiving dinner after laughing so much. Thank you Wayne you killed my appetite!! PT Barnum once said, "There's a sucker born every minute that's why we have sideshows"
Only one obvious answer here. Get the old unit going and run a twin setup like your boy on the cover photo of the owners' group! You'd be the talk of the river! Honestly pretty cool that there are communities for support with obscure products like that. As an owner of several old motorcycles, I sure appreciate their value.
By definition 1 horsepower is 746 watts or so. On the sticker it says 1200 watt, so that's less than 2 hp. There is also mention of 25 amp max. At 48 volts, that would work out similarly. So this is a 1.5 HP or so.
I bought the 2200W 48v motor. First one showed up with the head completely busted off of the shaft. No worries, after a few chat messages, they sent another! ...but that one is busted to.
thanks for all the great info in all your reviews, really appreciate all the work you put in testing everything for us! If you get the opportunity could you do a review on the new autoboat smart motor head that comes out next month? Trying to find some independent reviews to see if it’s a better option to upgrade my minnkota c2 endura than buy a whole new spotlock motor.
The twist grip throttle with the wires cut is a standard ebike twist grip throttle. Your friend can pick one up for about $10 with wires intact and fix the first motor that you gave them. I hope the replacement motor at least works.... Joe
Another great video. But would you be able to compare it to a similarly priced $200- $249 Minn Kota Endura 50 lb thrust trolling motor? That would be interesting. Can't wait till you receive the replacement. 😎👍
You should try their gas powered outboards, i think most of them are just clones of other reliable motors. I bought a "12hp" hangkai and it's worked great so far. It's really just a tohatsu 2 stroke 9.8hp outboard with a hangkai logo on it.
🌴 Hey Wayne, Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family, just woke up from a food coma and saw your vid , well when I saw what you did I just stood there and shook my head , I’ve seen the gas version of that for sale and the first thing to mind was you’ll never find parts for it second thought was dependably coming from China , don’t know how you ended up with a motor that was returned , as I thought that almost all returns got put on a pallet and are auctioned off as it’s cheaper that restocking for Amazon, the cooling of that motor might end up being its demise I did see vent louvers on the motor cowl but they didn’t seem to be on both sides were one side would draw air in and the other side air out 🤔 but the good part is hopefully the new one won’t come damaged and it actually works 🤞🏼 good luck my friend can’t wait to see how turns out .
At first I rolled my eyes at another review of these cheap motors. TH-cam is full of them and these motors are not worth it IMHO. I'm really glad you made this video after watching all of it because you showed just how difficult amazon can be and how you get what you pay for. Cheap junk is just manufactured waste. I have a really hard time finding a legitimate use for one of these motors. Save your money a little longer and get something with a state side support network/replacement parts. It isn't a deal if it wastes your time and money and so far this as done both. Hope your second motor is better.
Good ruck. I think that model may be out of rrofuction. Those marks on it are where people touched it with 10 foot poles. If you get no response from the seller and the thing is not as represented, you can always dispute it with your credit card company and they will hold the funds in abeyance until it is resolved.
I had the same experience with an item that was "ships from Amazon" & "sold by Amazon", I sent them pictures of the boxes and they wouldn't even refund me, I filmed myself dismantling the thing (completely taking it apart) and explaining why it doesn't work, and then they accepted to refund me, not send a new one. I threw the thing into the garbage, bought another one from the same link; same thing! They asked why I bought a second one, so I said; the first one was trashed and Amazon agreed to refund me. They refunded AGAIN and gave me a pretty big discount offer on the next purchase. I threw it away, again. I bought a 3rd one. That one was good.
Wayne, have you seen the jet version of this motor? It seems like it would be good in a pond or cove where there may be lots of weeds. Happy Thanksgiving Wayne
I looked at one of these. Almost bought it too. But then i saw 1200watts and math says 750w=1hp. Soo Ended up building my own for same price using a dead Evinrude. So many strange looks at boat ramp, 150hours and it keeps going. Still think that hankai has a place on small jon boats in small ponds. Its pricepoint hard to beat.
It didn´t look promising when you un packet that box. Looks like that motor already has made some other costumer unhappy. Didn´t expect to see my own boat here, that boat with twin hangkais on the hangkai facebook site is actually myne. To be fare to hangkai, I´m happy with both my engines and how they were sent to me. But you can tell that they are cheaper built, by the looks of some of the details on the motors.
How's it Hangkai? I always worry about finding parts for that company. I know people who use the gas versions for a couple of seasons ok. "about 12 trips" They do have their place.
I wouldve Suggested to purchase a Ebike Throttle and Wire it in...most ebike motors and controllers are similar and can work...with a 3speed switch and Reverse
You don’t expect junk from Amazon I’m building a car, bought a name brand steering column and it was not new or even what I ordered. Fortunately I could return it
Good lord stop complaining, put the motor on a boat, put it in the water and test the damn thing out. I just waisted 10 minutes of my life watching a guy buy the cheapest outboard in the world and complain about it for the whole video. I had to stop watching that after 3/4 of the video i didnt care if tryed it out or not. Jesus Man!
At least on eBay you can message the seller. Amazon had just made it practically impossible to talk to anybody except for a chatbot. I absolutely hate dealing with Amazon on returns or problems but yet my stupid ass keeps buying stuff from them anyway.
@@WayneTheBoatGuy Regardless of one's politics, the next 4 years are really scary, judging by some of the cabinet picks and the enablers that seem to refuse to do their duty and act as a check or balance...
A bunch of things: Hangkai is one of those Chinese companies that builds quality products. Your bottom gearbox gets gear oil by taking the prop off then the bearing out. Hangkai also ships from New Jersey. When you get the Amazon $40 demand, you hang up and call them again. I did. I got my missing part mailed to me. Busted cowling, etc? I wouldn't doubt that a whole 20 or 40 foot container was dropped upside down with hundreds of Hangkai products, and yours may or may not have seen a former customer. Inspection is a peek in the ripped hole in the box, through the oily plastic bag. Horsepower/ wattage? Laugh it off and use it. Are the Totes umbrellas you buy near the subway stairs real Totes? Are your Nike sneakers real Nike? Do you really want to know what your hotdogs are made of?
Yeah that looks like a return if I were you I would send it back but call amazon and let them know they sent you a used and broken motor so they will not charge you to return it ???
Lol, 5.0hp, but max 1200 watts. I'm guessing that sticker is from the gas engine variant. But hey the rest of the unit might still be worth the $200 and put your own motor and water cooled speed controller in it. Or at least one with a good cooling fan.
You were Shanghaid.😢 Another subject Are you watching that crack in your wall it looks like it could be involved with your slab. Thank you happy Thanksgiving
OMG Wayne, i can just see it in computerized German language voice. It sounds like the Manual for the Motor - terrible. did you select "something special" by uploading? Maybe "Auto-Translate" or so? It's horrible like the Motor! 🤣😂 @ Minute 08:07 the Computervoice switch to female 🤯
That is 100% a crappy E-bike motor kit rigged up into a boat motor. Wouldn't be an issue if the quality was a little bit higher. A product needs to actually function as advertised at a bare minimum. Unfortunately, consumers get taken advantage of often by these chinese companies.

Hello Wayne, any updates? Hankai also has the 2200 w electric motor. You should test that too.

motors and stuff make sure it is amazon itself selling it or the brand
This brand seems to be primarily sold through third party companies via Amazon and EBay - and all of them seem to be warehoused at the same facility.
Happy Thanksgiving buddy!!
Ooh! Do the weed Wacker looking 4 stroke import motors next!
Those look “fun” and noisy!
@@WayneTheBoatGuy Fun, reliable, and not noisy. My TomKing TK144FC runs great after a little grease, love, and fiddling.
