  • On this herping trip, we were fortunate enough to come across several rattlesnakes as well as three rubber boas (including one monster!) in just a matter of days. Check out the highlights from a great weekend searching for snakes!

Great video! NorPacs have to be the calmest rattlesnake I have ever seen on here! Those Rubber Boas are so neat - I used to find them 25 years ago when I worked on a ranch near Williams Lake!

Ya, it took us a long time to find boas with any regularity. The big ones are still few and far between, so we were pretty excited!

What areas around Kamloops would you recommend for herping?
I would love to take our 14-year-old son out and teach him a little more about field herping and observing reptiles in their natural habitat.
I used to have some good spots in Kelowna, but I'm pretty new to the Kamloops area.
Cheers and thanks for sharing the videos.

It really depends on what you're looking for. Rattlers are mostly on the north shore along the southern facing slopes. Gopher snakes and racers can be found pretty much anywhere in Kamloops. Just have to get lucky and put some work in. We hesitate to give out exact locations.

Haha I'm in Alberta, Canada. Two days ago it was -40 with the wind chill. Still a few months away from snakes up here.

We've had a lot of luck finding them during the summer crossing roads right after dark. Sometimes they are on the move during the day in the spring. Tough snake to find! Good luck!
