Spongebob is most likely my favorite cartoon of all time, if it wasn’t for Stephen making this show I wouldn’t be doing what I love doing the most which is drawing.
I disagree. If Spongebob Squarepants only lived for three seasons, it would have a lot more clever comedy and character dynamics in 60 that set it apart from what ChalkZone gave us in 40 episodes, but it would not stand out as much as Rugrats did for how many episodes it had when Spongebob started and when we got The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. Rugrats, Spongebob Squarepants and The Fairly OddParents are easily remembered as the big juggernauts of Nickelodeon because they had millions of viewers who adored them so much, they wanted to see _everything_ that could be done with every character on their roster in more than 3 seasons. After Season 10, I noticed Sandy Cheeks and Sheldon Plankton getting episodes with secondary characters who appear less than them, creating some new character pairings that the first 6 seasons never circled through. It took until the end of Season 7 to finally make a plot about them both being scientists, and see Sandy in the Chum Bucket for the first time in the show's history. If Spongebob Squarepants just had 3 seasons from 1999 to 2004, I doubt that pre-movie Spongebob today would not have nearly the same cultural impact as Gravity Falls and Wander Over Yonder had in 2 seasons, or what Avatar: The Last Airbender and Amphibia had in 3 seasons. Spongebob Squarepants is an episodic show and Avatar: The Last Airbender has a series-long arc, but Amphibia found the right middle ground between them. If you can look past all the bad episodes where Spongebob stalks Squidward, Patrick is a prick, and Mr. Krabs's greed goes too far, the post-movie seasons, particularly after the second movie Sponge Out of Water, have a lot of new experiences to share unlike anything you have seen in the first three seasons, when Sandy never interacted with Plankton or Squidward, and Mrs. Puff was rarely in the same scene with Plankton or Pearl. If Spongebob Squarepants only had 3 seasons, PieGuy, PhantomStrider and Mr. Enter would not talk about it as much as they do, Mr. Enter might never have started Animated Atrocities and Admirable Animations, we would not get unusual new experiences like "Bubble Buddy Returns" or "The Ghost of Plankton" which had a rare character focus pairing of The Flying Dutchman and Plankton, and we would not get Squidina Star from Goons on the Moon, who grew up to be the heart of The Patrick Star Show in 3 years since then. Looking back, you can almost distinguish between distinct "pre-SpongeBob" and "post-SpongeBob" eras of the animation medium. Everything about the show's first 3 seasons, from its extremely cohesive and internally consistent nautical/beach culture theming, to its dare-I-say perfect sense of comedic timing and wit, is executed so flawlessly that the series has almost universal appeal, which is something even the best works of entertainment can rarely boast of. I always get a kick out of SpongeBob's shenanigans! The pilot episode will always be number one because I loved how they had Tiny Tim's music playing in the background while SpongeBob was getting the krabby patties done for the customers. My second favorite episode is where Davy Jones of The Monkees made a cameo. I LMAO when he was throwing his socks at the Flying Dutchman! Finally I also liked the episode where SpongeBob was convinced that Mr. Krabs is a robot! I feel like the interrogation scene was recycled from an episode of The Monkees. The main difference was that Micky was a robot while Mr. Krabs wasn't.

@@aspirationfailure6100 I'm just saying that the color choices aren't the best in the newer seasons. Although, the newer seasons are still perfectly watchable in my opinion.
One of my favorite cartoon series. Thanks Stephen Hillenburg for this. By the way, my favorite characters are besides Sponge Bob, Patrick, Squidward, Plankton and Mr Krabs. By the way, when you mentioned the inspiration of the characters in addition to Rocko's modern life, Woody Woodpecker, Popeye, Bugs Bunny, it seems to me that the creator took a little inspiration from Disney characters as well. I think Sponge Bob is a bit reminiscent of Mickey Mouse and Fethry Duck, while Patrick is like as Gus Goose and Goofy, Squidward as Donald Duck, Mr Krabs as Scrooge McDuck, Gary as Pluto, Squilliam as Gladstone, Plankton is probably Magica de Spell or Flintheart Glomgold or John D. Rockerduck. But that's just my theory. Mermaid Man is a parody of Aquaman and he is much better to me than the original Aquaman. Otherwise, great analysis.
SpongeBob SquarePants is my number one favorite TV show during my childhood life. It really got me interested in the episodes and I fell in love with the characters. The TV movies and theatrical movies are what brought the show to new heights and improved everything. My favorite episode is "Krabby Road" because the characters become part of a band which involves music and everyone loves music. I recently watched the third movie and found it better than the other ones. I feel disappointed that they're making the Kamp Koral spinoff since it's against Stephen Hillenburg's desire and I just wanted the show to continue with much more seasons that can go on for centuries. On the bright side, the show has been renewed for a 13th season and will release this year. If a 14th season doesn't happen, I would count Kamp Koral season 1 as SpongeBob season 14 because it's like the same exact show with the same characters and the only difference is the settings and the time period. My dream would be to meet all the voice actors at Nickelodeon Animation Studios. The show will always remain in my heart. I wish that there could be a SpongeBob contest to make sure you know everything about the show, "SpongeBob SquarePants."
Ever since I saw a rerun of the first episode in 2007, I've always LOVED Spongebob. And you better believe I was NOT happy when I heard that Stephen Hillenburg had passed. And, while I do agree that making spinoffs when he didn't want any is a bad idea, I think they'll be fine.
I am really excited for Sponge on the Run but the only huge problem I have with the movie is the flashback scene that's suppose to show all the characters as kids. If they cut out all the whole flashback scene but just leave the ending of the flashback with just SpongeBob and Gary then that will be alright! But other than that I have no problems with this movie and I am really excited for it! Hopefully we will even get a movie tie in game for console!!!!!
First time I’m here right when the video uploads! Great work! Spongebob definitely went through a flanderization period, though I’ll admit I stopped watching sometime in season 6 I believe so it’s good to know Hillenburg steered it back to its roots
Stephen Hillenburg (R.I.P.) the genius..who of thought a marine science educator and a California Arts student would created one of Nickelodeon's hit cartoons of all time the lovable fast food working kitchen sea sponge which I adored so much as he was working under Joe Murray's(Rocko's Modern Life) project..but he never wanted his cartoon to be longer than 21 years today or have a couple of spinoffs, that's what Nickelodeon wanted...longer than Dora and her spinoffs for 20 years and Rugrats and All Grown Up for 15 years on Nickelodeon and even the movies and thanks to Paul Tibbitt for working with him and respecting him
i seriously don’t understand how this guy doesn’t have more subscribers. he actually makes good quality content unlike some other people on this site with millions of subscribers
I've been watching SpongeBob since around the time the first movie came out and I gotta say: Even with hindsight and everyone saying "how much the show changed", with the exception of a few episodes, I still only notice minor changes in the writing 'til about Season 9 (like making Mister Crabs more greedy). In fact, my Top 10 list of favorite episodes mostly consists out of episodes after the first movie.
Spongebob has had a rough road in more recent times but it is seriously one of the most iconic cartoons of all time. Anyone knows who Spongebob is and that is saying something. :D
Interesting how Spongebob was deemed a certified classic only 3 years in, and here we all thought it would be out of place for a character a little over 20 to appear in this series.
At least Spongebob fared better as a long running Nicktoon of the 2000s than Fairly Odd Parents. I think it's even faring better as a current long running cartoon series compared to Simpsons and Family Guy.
The SpongeBob stage musical is honestly one of the greatest things done with the character after the 2004 movie. It was the last production to have Hillenburg's input, it was nominated for 13 Tony Awards, has great songs, great set design, great actors and is much more clever, fun, well written and well executed that anyone would initially give it credit for. Even if you're not a fan of musicals, it deserves a shot!
@@carswellcarswell2593 Spongebob is 23 years old. Spongebob doesn't age but the years move forward. Or you can use the 2 christmas specials to measure the years.
Spongebob is one of my favorite cartoons growing up. I often watched the series as a kid blindly enjoying every episode of the show (even seasons 6-8). While as an adult, I did look back at the dark age, coming to realization that they're just as bad as everyone said it was a decade back, the show's first three seasons will always hold up as some of the best comedy to ever grace children's television in the late '90s and early 2000s. All of this was thanks to Stephen Hillenburg who created this world, characters, and unique stories that we loved during our childhoods. Spongebob Squarepants will always hold a special place in my childhood. R.I.P Stephen Hillenburg: 1961-2018.
SpongeBob also has a lot of fan theories which i will list five here 1. the main cast represents the 7 deadly sins 2. SpongeBob and friends are the result of nuclear testing 3. the episode "Karate Choppers" is a metaphor for sex 4. the Squidward's suicide creepypasta 5. Patrick Star is a psychopath

I'm the same age as Spongebob. This will always be my favorite cartoon. So much nostalgia while watching old episodes, I grew up watching it, and it's the only cartoon that I look forward to when watching Nickelodeon.
I am surprised to see such a recent animated show get its history reviewed! I know I've asked this before, but I think a review of Dragon Ball would be very intriguing. Granted it's a manga first and TV show second, Goku is still known the world over and is going to be the ambassador for Japan's 2021 Olympics. I love these videos. They always have such clear information and delivered in a great way. I could listen to Dave Lee talk for hours! Keep up the amazing work!
0:14 I like this vid but by God I hate when people call spongebob a kitchen sponge. He is a sea sponge that happens to be in the shape of a square. He has been known to filter feed, reproduce by budding and regenerate limbs. These are things sea sponges can do. Not to mention he's been called a sea sponge multiple times on the show and even the creator stated that he is indeed a sea sponge.
Stephen Hillenberg quite literally said he was designed to look like a kitchen sponge, in a quote that I have included in the video. No need to get so worked up over it - he’s a cartoon sponge. Just enjoy.
I love how you have done this; what a great tribute to Hillenburg and his cheerful creation. Well done :) As for my favourite Spongebob moment, I think the first three series is the Golden Age of the cartoon, and from this is the episode featuring the Million Dollar Hat. This was the first time I had seen Spongebob and I laughed my head off at when Mr Krabs tried to scare him into giving him the hat... OH MY GOSH! A FLOATING SHOPPING LIST! AAAAHHHH! Humorous and hilarious! Again, thank you for these videos. They are awesome 😁
If nothing else the fact that SpongeBob has so deeply permeated the culture of practically everyone born in the early 2000s to the point that references to the series are common in casual conversations will immortalize the series

The originality of the character, the expanded knowledge of marine biology, and the harkens-back to classic cartoons, is what made Spongebob special in the first place. Very well-researched, Dave! You really did yourself one!
Thank you!
Dave Lee Down Under Dave lee can you please do evolution of ninja turtles
Hey! This was easily my favorite Cartoon Evolution
You deserve a lot more subscribers
Love from Mexico
Thanks so much, I appreciate it!
I liked his appearance in Sponge Out of Water and Season 9.5 onwards. Overall, good video, Dave!
Yes I agree! Every time you look at spongebobs Instagram you see people saying the show is horrible and that’s a BIG lie
Modern SpongeBob is too bright yellow.
andykishore why does that matter?
@@aspirationfailure6100 I'm just saying that the color choices aren't the best in the newer seasons. Although, the newer seasons are still perfectly watchable in my opinion.
andykishore it’s ok! I just wanted to know why you cared about his color and I agree the newer season are good to!
My favourite seasons 1-3 and I love the first movie although the newer seasons are pretty good S9b and after
Fr!
I’ve been waiting for this and it’s finally here
One Question
Is Mayonoise an Instrument???
No gaming and stuff mayonnaise is not an instrument
Horse radish is not an instrument either.
No.
Horseradish is not an instrument either
Funny enough, Tom Kenny would voice Fethry in DuckTales 2017.
@@magnetoonproductions9541 He did play Fethry, but unfortunately Fethry didn't appear in Ducktales enough. Only three times.
Just so you know Steven worked on Kamp Koral.
@@spongebobmaster how? He died before kamp koral and kamp koral aired in 2021 or 2022

I love the editing and attention to detail you put into this video! Very well done Dave!
Thanks Zane!
this cartoon just brings back a lot of memories, I haven’t watched the episodes in a long time. I still talk about Spongebob in School now a days 😂
Spongebob Squarepants Premiered On Nickelodeon On May 1st 1999
Seasons 1-3 are my favourite seasons of SpongeBob SquarePants.
Why did stephen hillenburg? Why did you have to die? I'll tell you, i am still a fan of squarepants.
Ever since I saw a rerun of the first episode in 2007, I've always LOVED Spongebob. And you better believe I was NOT happy when I heard that Stephen Hillenburg had passed. And, while I do agree that making spinoffs when he didn't want any is a bad idea, I think they'll be fine.
i 1st saw SpongeBob when I was 3 months old when it hit May Day which is May 1st that's when my dad got me to watch SpongeBob
Can’t wait to see how SpongeBob’s voice evolution is gonna be done, especially since he’s had one consistent voice actor in the great Tom Kenny
Let’s all just respect Stephen Hillberg for this weird little show
Imagine if stephen did the same as disney with mickey, Definitly 4th season to 8 season wouldn't exist,
*BECAUSE WE DIDN'T*
Again, Dave puts memes in the video and thumbnail
The intro was great and hilarious!! Nice job 😅🤣🤣🤣😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😁😁😁😃😃😄😄😆😆👍👍👍👍👍✊✋
Rest in Peace Stephen Hillinberg!
This is probably my favorite cartoon evolution! Amazing video!
Thanks, Theo!
This is my Favorite Evolution so far Great Job Dave and since you did Spongebob I was wondering are you ever going to do The Simpsons
I love how you used time cards from the french narrator to transition the various parts of the video.
SpongeBob SquarePants what I did not know that it was our first version of SpongeBob SquarePants
I've been watching SpongeBob since around the time the first movie came out and I gotta say:
Even with hindsight and everyone saying "how much the show changed", with the exception of a few episodes, I still only notice minor changes in the writing 'til about Season 9 (like making Mister Crabs more greedy).
In fact, my Top 10 list of favorite episodes mostly consists out of episodes after the first movie.
You should do a Simpsons Evolution Over 31 Years
Spongebob has had a rough road in more recent times but it is seriously one of the most iconic cartoons of all time. Anyone knows who Spongebob is and that is saying something. :D
I love sponge Bob
Sponge is the best
Oh actually I don't like spongebob
Excellent use of the show's transition cards.
Interesting how Spongebob was deemed a certified classic only 3 years in, and here we all thought it would be out of place for a character a little over 20 to appear in this series.
I'm very surprised to hear tv guide ranked him higher that Mickey Mouse. I like spongebob but that makes me question their credibility a little bit.

Crazy to think that SpongeBob is allowed to drink now!
He got drunk from Ice Cream once... so what the barnacles could alcohol do to him?!
@BayBVGo 2.0 the same thing it does for all of us.
Spongebob: I'd like a glass of milk 2%. It was Pest of the West so it was Spongebuck.
It's been 21 years.
@@carswellcarswell2593 Spongebob is 23 years old. Spongebob doesn't age but the years move forward. Or you can use the 2 christmas specials to measure the years.
Great video man!
RIP Stephen Hillenburg.
Great use of the subject matters own style of humour. This is great!
Thank you!
SpongeBob also has a lot of fan theories which i will list five here
1. the main cast represents the 7 deadly sins
2. SpongeBob and friends are the result of nuclear testing
3. the episode "Karate Choppers" is a metaphor for sex
4. the Squidward's suicide creepypasta
5. Patrick Star is a psychopath
Favorite season: 2
Favorite episode: Sailor Mouth (though All That Glitters is a close second)
Favorite movie: the first one

Legend!
YES FLASHBACKS. It’s not the 40’s it’s the 90’s no need Disney influences.
One change I’m glad they did was Mermaid man’s belt color from yellow to purple with a purple capital M on it!
Well done :)
As for my favourite Spongebob moment, I think the first three series is the Golden Age of the cartoon, and from this is the episode featuring the Million Dollar Hat.
The Intro🤣🤣🤣
If nothing else the fact that SpongeBob has so deeply permeated the culture of practically everyone born in the early 2000s to the point that references to the series are common in casual conversations will immortalize the series
