  • And finally, to top it all: Gordon plays three reels, including his own composition, Andy Renwick's Ferret, with several variations you may not have heard before. :)

    People can talk about the speed and strength of his fingers..but listen to the drone! Not even a flutter! Gordon Duncan was astonishing. What a loss to the piping world he was.

      Totally! And, if you watch the video carefully, you'll notice how he is actually holding the drones up vertically, just by pressure and not tilted back and against his chest. And they are totally steady. Absolute Ninja.

    You have grade 4, 3, 2, 1 then you have Gordan Duncan, whenever i tell people about him i always say, he was like the elvis pressley of the piping world, a man who changed everything but also a gentleman a lovely down to earth guy who is missed by so so many, the Gordan Duncan documentary on you tube is great. His spirit will live on forever for as long as there is one man or woman who plays the pipes we will always remember one of our own, his spirirt lives on in all of us whenever we pick up our pipes ☮️❤️🎶🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🕉

    What a lovely guy! Gordon came down to London a few years back to give a recital for the SPSL. Wish I'd had a digital video camera then. I was later priviledged in taking Gordon to his hotel. What a great loss, now he's gone.

    Tunes are _ "Farewell To Ireland / Andy Renwick's Ferret / The Wild Irishman". The 3rd reel is generally associated with the Northern counties of Ireland. There is another entirely different reel with the same name.
    RIP, Gordon. I remember him bringing the whole of Miltown Malbay to a standstill when playing in the street at a Willie Clancy week in the early 1980s. The street was blocked for about 50 yards with people listening to his playing. The Gards had to tell him to stop so the traffic could get moving again.
    And then there was Lorient ..............the memories. Don't think we'll see his like again.

    Thanks to the supplier of these video performances of a most amazing piper. Gordon Duncan is in a class by himself as a player and composer. His fingers are clear enough in this video to see that they are moving fast enough to create their own blurr!

    What atremendous piper he was! He lives on! Every piper should have at least one of his tunes on board. I have Andy Renwick's Ferret. Will certainly learn a few of his other tunes.

      @stuartbegg8172 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can buy it from www.gordonduncan.co.uk/ it's in the book "Gordon Duncan's Tunes". That version is more or less what is played here only a few tweaks really that are different, you should easily identify them following along in the book.

    amazing. as a note... the 'andy wrenicks ferret' (beginning at 1.06mins) is the full version as it was written by Gordon Duncan himself. all the others are the variations :)
