Lucky Bamboo is actually an easy plant to care for but still we end up killing it due to under watering or too much of sunlight.
If your lucky bamboo aka Dracaena Sanderiana is yellowing or drying up here is what you can do about it.

Hey guys, I'd suggest using filtered, distilled or rainwater. Tap water generally contains a lot of fluorine and chlorine which isn't good for your plant. If you must use tap water, then store the tap water for about 24-48 hours and let the fluorine and chlorine evaporate before using it. But best would be drinking water, it contains all the nutrients needed for your plant ^-^
TL;DR: use filtered/drinking water, not tap water

See, the molten wax doesn't prevent the vertical growth.
It prevents the moisture loss & infection getting into the plant by that open wound.
It just seals the open wound.
Even if you're not using the wax, it will always grow sideways, that's the place where you will find the node.

Good luck with your bamboo plant, I just revived one after the former tenants left and the plant had been left on its own. All that was left was a thick brown bark/stem. After few days of watering, I can see some shoots popping up. Very forgiving plant indeed.
