I was concerned when my sister was taken out to the middle of nowhere by her son-in-law. I can testify to her enthusiasm for bait fishing, as it was on our boat. I didn’t think there was any chance she would make it without falling in the river, hooking Spencer or wrapping herself in fishing line. My bar was low…. But, after talking to her and watching this video I am more than impressed. Spencer did a great job explaining and teaching. She was so excited and is now “hooked” on fly fishing. Made me think I might be ready to try it. I’m only the aunt, so he would not be in as much trouble if he pushed me in the river. 😂
I had the best time doing this with Alex and yes, even that son-in-law of mine! I absolutely loved being on that beautiful creek, the scenery and even the sound of the water added to the whole experience. AND I CAUGHT A FISH!!! Can’t wait to go again. 💗💗💗
1. Spencer, you are brave taking the MIL. 2. She did great and seems like a ton of fun! 3. I’ve watched a dozen of Venture’s videos today, you and Alex crack me up!! Thanks for the instruction!!!
Well done. That was like a day on the river with so many first time clients! It's so fun watching them get it and then having the reward of a beautiful fish after practicing all the work they were taught.
Diet coke for all!!! Outstanding beginner video. Exceptional for those do it yourself learners and those with no mentor. If there was a TH-cam Fly Fishing award show. This would surely win in the teaching section. Cheers and please keep the fantastic videos coming.
I went from not really knowing much about fly fishing other than it just being another way to fish, to catching my first fish the other day. The podcast you do and the master class videos you guys do here have taken me from always thinking fly fishing was “too hard” to getting one in the net. So a thanks from me to you guys at VFC
Wow, this was a great one. Perfect for me. It was educational and very enjoyable. The scenery was terrific and you got lucky with that mother-in-law of yours, great personality and sense of humor. You make a good team.
Very good video. The pro did get her to the spot and guide the fly choice, but its important to note that sometimes just having the fly in the water will get you bites like 34:45 and a few others. So if you are overwhelmed just know getting it in the water can get you results, and you can learn as you go. This does a good job of showing in detail how to get a ton of knowledge very quickly and it helped me.
@@venturesflyco oh yeah! A buddy of mine took me three weeks ago for the first time and we hooked up on a handful of fry that were hitting top waters. So intense! They of course didn’t put up much of a fight but to see them hammering tops got me excited. Been hooked ever since, just got my entire setup in the mail yesterday so I can stop loaning my buddies gear
Just watched a few of your videos and it’s made me want to take up fly fishing . You guys make it look so easy and so much fun , so thank you can’t wait till next season . Just joined a club earlier today , but living in the uk the season is almost over . So I’m going to look for some gear and get ready for next season . Really excited Thanks guys
New to fly fishing here, I honestly love the podcast and all the videos / lessons are very informative and to the point: I look no further than you guys !
Loved the video guys , awesome teaching and fantastic catching a fish as well , I learnt from this video things that will for sure help me to fly fish effectively in the future, thank you for a fantastic video , you both were awesome. Loved it. 🙏
For sure going over the waiting and looking in the water to see what they might be eating before fishing… also the fishing the seam helped .. just a very helpful video all around.. thanks
I watch a LOT of TH-cam videos. And decide whether or not to continue after 2:00. I love all of your content and always listen/watch from beginning to end with you and Alex. You guys are dependable. This was one of my FAVORITE fly fishing videos OAT. Please find a way to do a "Laura Goes Fly Fishing," series here on Ventures. This was fantastic, and you are so very fortunate to have her in your lives, Spencer. I will recommend this to every beginner I possibly can. Kindness is REEL LIFE!
This was wonderful! As a fellow beginner, I got so much out of this instruction. Curious though, my last time out, I spent about 80% of my time on the water trying to untangle knots I made while trying to cast :( What is the best way to avoid getting all knotted up? Also curious what kind of boots she's wearing??
Hey there! Glad you found it helpful. Chances are you aren't waiting long enough on your back cast. Moving the rod forward too soon is sure fire way to get tangled. Focus on letting that line straighten out before you move the rod forward. Boots... I believe she was wearing Orvis Ultralights.

Your excitement at hooking your first fish on the fly was infectious! Hope you continue to enjoy this fantastic sport.
You can see why I wasn’t good at bait fishing! I yell and scare away all the fish! Fly fishing is much better for people like me. 🤣
@@lolitapickle5788 I hope they have you in a 6 month follow up. Cheers and tight lines.
Keep her off the channel or I will unsubscribe 🙋🤣
Your excitement was so infectious!!! I’m learning to fly fish and you’ve got me excited to get out there
I could watch an entire series of you two. This was great. From her reaction to the stone fly....to her yelling with her fish on. Good stuff.
😂 this should be a series! I would totally watch more of this. Laura did great!

MamaGigi was very impressed with Laura's first venture into fly fishing. Also, she had an excellent instructor. Well done, one and all.
I can't tell you how grateful I am for this video. Bought my first rod heading to the lake. Wish me luck.
How did you do? Also maybe instead of the lake fish the rivers coming into and out of the stream
That was fun to watch, thanks. Gives me hope that I'll actually catch a trout with my fly rod sooner or later, lol.

Awesome student, decent teacher.... Great video to both learn flying fishing, and for someone trying to teach it to someone else.
Great video! Learned a lot through her questions, and watching a beginner get taught on the water. Well done!
this was fun to watch. love when new folks are introduced to the sport.

Awesome video. Enough info to get started, but not enough to be overwhelmed. And it sounds like she was hooked. "Let's do it again!" lol
As someone who just started fly fishing for the first time the same time this video came out, I was sitting there routing for her the entire time!
haha thats so awesome! Have you caught your first yet?

If you can teach your fantastic mother-in-law to fish, then you could probably teach me. Great going, fantastic footage. Thanks.
This is at my level. Thank you
You are very welcome! Is there something that you found helpful?
Haha that was great. Super helpful and entertaining. Happy for her!

Great video! She's a natural 😆.
You have a great MIL
I thought en-tamale-gist was someone who specialized in tamales. Great video as always!
hahaha. Love that.
"No, the fish won't eat butterflies"
Better not tell that to the Tiger Swallowtail I found in a harvested trout
She's funny.
