My manual tells me to start with the 4th or blue string. I did that thing 4 times and it kept breaking. finally came to youtube and did it once with your video. Everything went smoothly! Thank you so much for making a video and having it be as detailed. Still not sure what i did wrong except starting with the blue one. Again thank you!!!
Commenting on behalf of my wife (and me, too, cuz I was watching the video). Fantastic video! Our only suggestion would be, if you ever make another video, it would be helpful if you had a spotlight aiming at the dark portions of the machine. The auto exposure control of your video camera takes an average of all the lens sees. Since the machine is white and the innards are black, the black portion gets underexposed. A simple fix would be to position a desk lamp (the kind that has a cover so the light aims only in one direction) aiming the lamp from the right towards the black innards. That also would eliminate the need for the illustration you added to various segments of the video. Just a suggestion . . . but still, your video helped my wife immensely! Thanks!

After threading up my overlooker four times, and it refusing to work, u began to doubt my memory, and if course I've no idea where my book is! Lol However, this worked on the first try, and my memory hadn't failed me, as usual, it likes to be threaded up numerous times before it will work lol

How do you decide or at what point is a serger is a good idea? I see an offer for a brand new still in the box serger, same model here, for 250. I do craft sewing and am going to learn to sew my own clothes. Is this a good idea and a good price? I’d like to hear some opinions from experience. Thanks. 😊 It is the 1034D not the 1034DX.
Jenn, did your serger come with a needle screw set/allen wrench? Of course when i need to pull out a needle to do a rolled hem, I find that I don't have that needle screw set. :/
I have a Toyota SL3404D overlocker and although I have looked at several TH-cam videos, I still can't seem to get the hang of it and even the tension is trying my patience to it's maximum I will follow your video and see how far I get. If not then last resort, I will have to pay for someone to do it for me. : -(

Was wondering why the threading starts with the third (green) position. I’ve checked the manual and it doesn’t refer to this order. Does it make a difference?
I have a Brother 1034DX and cannot find any videos on how to thread or use this serger. Need more videos on this particular model. it is a little different in the threading etc.
What if the second needle thread doesn’t intertwined with the rest of the other threads? It stared to overlock without the second needle thread ever since I fixed my denim shorts and the layers were a little thick. I fear something must of broke inside my serger.😰 I wish I can put up a picture to show you...

Can't touch this machine now -- unless $530 or more on Amazon is anyone's idea of a bargain. I've checked everywhere -- Out Of Stock. Anyone have an idea if they've stopped making them or it's just temporary due to COVID-19? Can't get an answer from Brother.
Another useful tool is a makeup brush. The scrawny, stiff little brush that comes with a serger doesn't do nearly as good a job at removing lint as a soft makeup brush.
I’ve threaded my serger this EXACT way MORE THAN A BILLION TIMES and it “tests” perfectly but when I go to see actual fabric, a thread ALWAYS breaks!! HEEELLPPP PLEASE!! 😫😭

Ugh that is so frustrating but glad you're okay now!!! It really isn't that bad time wise once you get comfortable with the serger threading.

You certainly can switch them out to ballpoint needles, although I honestly haven't and do knits frequently.

I have also found that taking off the foot helps to really speed up the process.

That was so helpful! My green thread, the one with the 11 steps to thread through keeps coming out of the loophole when I try to sew. Any suggestions?
