Was amazing on the big screen, too. Thank you for telling your reaction as an attendee in the house Saturday. I'm not huge with opera and I never saw a show at the Met. I worked in the theater with the original fellow who played "Amahl" -- and once met "Julia Megenes-Johnson" (who did the character of Carmen in the movie), but that's about all my opera experience, lol. Oh and Jonas Kaufman. I've seen DVD's and know many opera fans, but myself, I am still learning. Good video you made, it helps me understand.
Love this piece and your discussion of it. Many memories of this opera. A standout is Tebaldi and Corelli as the stars in a Met broadcast of the '60s. From the start, the atmosphere was electric. They literally stopped the show over and over again. When they entered, arias, duets--were all met with wild applause. There are just no stars like that today.
12:15-12:25 I am kind of the opposite. I have seen Carmen many times regardless of what opera house and made reviews on them, and as much as I would love to do more reviews of Madama Butterfly productions, my main reason for not getting to those that much was first of all because I was still in my actor's training years and secondly my academic endeavors, seeing that I am still in my twenties. As for this review itself, I thought you managed to be awesome as you always are when talking about Netrebko, Beczala, Rachvelishvili, and Maestri. I would have loved to make a review of this Adriana Lecouvreur as well. Sadly, I was bombarded by academic priorities, especially when exams were concerned. At least, I graduated my Abitur with a 1,8 and I was really pleased. :)
The January 12th performance of Adriana at the Met with Bezcala and Netrebko was less than eventful. The role is just too big for Bezcala, who was laboring throughout the performance. The beautiful Netrebko who is still a consummate artist did beautifully interpret the role, however, Miss Netrebko has been having problems with her less than steady vocal line, sometimes wowing and shaking in her middle register. Miss Netrebko is only 46 years old, but I hope she is able to address her obvious vocal problems. I sometimes find it an injustice to the singer, when critics ignore the obvious deterioration of a singers vocal prowess, but more so when an artist is as youthful as the wonderful gifted Netrebko.
I LOVE your reviews!! I went to see it last Saturday and was enthralled!!
Thank you so much, Rowna. A thoughtful, insightful review bringing the opera to life for me!
Thanks, Rowna. Very entertaining as usual. Keep it up!!
