O MEU or Just MEU? Are Both Correct in Brazilian Portuguese?

- Ever wondered if the use of definite articles before given names and before possessive pronouns is optional or not? Is there a rule for dropping the definite articles in such contexts? In today's lesson you will learn about the use definite articles ('o', 'a', 'os', 'as) before:
- given names (e.g 'O Paulo chegou' vs 'Paulo chegou')
- possessive pronouns (eg. 'O meu amigo chegou' vs 'Meu amigo chegou')
- an interesting curiosity about a Brazilian song - 'Paratodos', by Chico Buarque - regarding the use of definite articles before possessive pronouns.

I am a native Spanish speaker and I need to learn Portuguese. Even though it is not that complicated, small differences like "O Thomas" instead of "Thomas" are really hard for me to overcome. So, I'm glad I don't have to do that and still speak correctly. Obrigado!

ótimo vídeo...aprendi uma nova palavra (tataravô) e você mencionou um dos meus músicos brasileiros favoritos (Chico Buarque). Quando começei de aprender português quase um ano atrás, "Apesar de Você" era a primeira música que eu ouvi. Aprendi um pouquinho sobre a história do Brasil através de música dele. A música dele me inspirou muito.

Vou fazer uma pequena correção no seu texto. 'Começar' requer a preposição 'a' quando seguido por outro verbo. '...comecei A aprender português...'
