ALPACKA Raft
When I used to camp or backpack I had a couple of these clear thick plastic "Sunshower" bags with built-in showerhead that rolled up when not in use, very similar to the 10 litre one you demonstrated. The idea was that you filled it early in the morning or the night before then put it out in the sun for a while to warm up, and then you had a warm shower. Or you could just boil water and mix it with cold water.
One was a one person bag good for a 3-5 minute or so shower while the other was much bigger and had enough water for over 10 minutes. I think it even had a every rudimentary detachable wand. Makes camping SO much nicer. I didn't have a privacy stall which wasn't a problem when far from others but otherwise a bathing suit was essential. The challenge was always to find something to hang it from.
Damn, this channel is making me want to go camping again!
What I've done is to fit a standard hose bibb and valve to a 7 gal jerry can, which I then sit on the roof of my truck, and I can turn the valve on the hose bibb on and off. It takes me only about 2 gallons of water to wash and rinse, including washing and conditioning my long hair. I use a plastic dish draining board to stand upon, because I dislike the feeling of wear shoes whilst showering. A good substitute for hair conditioner is simply some diluted lemon juice (but the large bottles from concentrate), or water mixed with a bit of citric acid powder, and I use plain castile soap. I've also found that one of the most useful items to keep whilst on the road is a 1 litre/quart spray bottle filled with 70% isopropanol, which can be used to clean oneself in a pinch, and to sanitize hands, dishes, and surfaces, along with the usual first-aid uses. It also excellent for killing bugs without spraying toxic chemicals that could persist in a constrained environment.
I must admit to being a bit surprised in finding your vids and seeing how much you love the outdoors. Many youngsters like their comforts way too much. Love your outgoingness. Love that word. The disco is a posh upgrade if you like from the 110 Defender. Love your outlook on the outdoors and will keep watching your pages. Cheers and keep up the good vids your doing. They just might inspire more youngsters to follow to the doors.
Many motorway services have showers as well (I think it's a legal requirement now in the UK, but some older facilities don't have them) and in some cases they're accessible even if you're not on the motorway, E.g. NCR 74 in Scotland largely follows the M74/A74(M) motorway so an option for bike trips.
You have inherited from your father the gift of communication, thank you for the video.
We use something called a solar shower. This is basically a heavy duty bag with an exterior designed to get hot in the sun and it has a hose and shower attachment. Great for tent camping, but no privacy so you need to rig up a curtain.
I have only just found your channel and am currently binge watching all your videos, you have a very natural way of projecting your love of the life you are leading and all things outdoors and living in your vehicle.
Used to fill a hot water bottle, when camping, then in the morning it was still warm enough to use the water to wash in.
When you were having the shower
You brave person: it look like it must have been very Cold ! Wow !
Thank you so much for sharing your video with all of us!!
Great job!!
I know I shouldn't be surprised, but you do it every time Becky, you are just one awesome young lady. I have used many different methods to get clean while out, usually the strip wash. It is so nice to see how you have "Percy" set up now for your roaming endeavors. Looking forward to following your European journey, take care, be safe and continue to enjoy life YOUR way.
I love the way you have your Landy set up, and you give some really good advice in this video. As you say keeping clean is important, both for the health of your body, and your mind. When I'm outdoors camping and travelling I try to follow the example of the Army. A soldier is of no use if they are ill because of a lack of basic hygiene. So they are taught how to wash and powder all the important places using nothing more than a mess tin of water. I might not go to quite that extreme level, but I grew up in the countryside in an era when many people still didn't have indoor toilets or bathrooms. We washed ourselves daily standing in front of the handbasin or the kitchen sink, and only had a bath at the end of the week so I don't mind not having a shower.
Great demo for those that need it. Stay well and be safe.
Thnks for putting out the information Becky for those who have not figured out task of keeping clean while out in nature it is really not that hard to do when you get the hang of it.
Hi Be KY, a solar shower is a good option in the summer, you fill them up and leave them out in the sun to warm up. They get pretty hot. Used to hang the off the trailer andbh9se down the kids when camping
Amazing inspiration .very well done
BRILLIANT VID,
Thanks, the demo was fun. ✌🏻👊🏼
Hi Becky, not taking anything away from this great episode, but when I've been tramping down here in Nz, I've just used a 5lt solar shower. If you have limited access to water, one would definitely reduce the quantity for showering. But remember, having drinking water is always more important than having showering water. In fact an old mate of mine once spent three weeks out on the ice, down Antarctica, taking core samples and doing sonar readings, without a shower during that period. Of course there was a practical reason for not washing. A build up of natural oils helped keep them warm. Btw temperatures were neg 20°C. Loving your channel. Keep em coming. Btw our own "wild girl Miriam Lancewood, and husband Peter are up in a forest somewhere in Bulgaria.
Until next time, take care. Atb from down under.
Those solar shower bags have stood the test of decades! We used them for relatively fixed camps in isolated forest park sites.
All types of adventures are adventures. Rover, van, bike, boat, or boots. You are a true adventurer and I love your inspiring content. Have you looked into thosextube showers on roof racks that heat up by sun?
As a trucker and a casual bikrpacker, I can relate to all of this. Especially the wet wipes
Aye the good old wet wipes wash, 15 years of tramping taught me that 😂
KFC wipes work a treat 😂🤣
Alot of people have a similar setup to you here in Australia Becky, its the way to go when you love the outdoors ❤💛🙏👌
Wow loving the tent and shower great ideas. The shower attachment gives you great privacy to get washed and changed. Wish I could have a ‘ Percy’. Loving your videos x
You should build a small wood platform to stand on when you shower. Like a tiny palette
Great information, Becky! Always enthusiastic to see your latest endeavors! 😉
We camped for years in a fairly affordable little 18 ft travel trailer...pulled by a pickup truck..we liked having power and water sites usually; ours had a neat little outside shower that we would just wear our bathing suits and put down a little plastic mat. Thanks Becky, cheers from Georgia, USA 😊.
I like to push my boundaries with self care to discover my limits if any disasters may occur, two months without a wash and I looked 10 years younger, I'll take that, gross I know but none of us truly knows what's around the corner , self preparedness is key 👍
Public swimming pools will allow a shower only. Approx £3 a pop. We used in Oban & Fort William on a recent trip. Also Marinas, backpacker hostels, we have used them in Tobermory & Mallaig. Keep up the good work.
Just come across your channel, fab Landy and setup, looking forward to seeing what other upgrades you put into the Disco.
I loved this video Bex. I'm planning to start long distance hiking next year so videos like this are a huge help for beginners like me. Thank you!
"Bex", cool spelling...😊
On the road again 👍😁
Great video Becky.... I find baby wipes are a great stand in for a proper shower.... You at least feel refreshed for a while. Pretty much any Leisure centre is a great bet too.
Loving the Landy, It's really coming together.
Showering outdoors is so refreshing! Best of luck, you are living the dream!
Excellent video Becky. Thank for all these tips. Take care !!
Hi Becky, I just fit a home made version of this to my expedition trailer
On the floor situation I solved it with a small beach mat, it’s a groundsheet that allows sand to pass through it. It packs down into my hand so is easy to stow and keeps about 90% of the floor off my feet whilst I shower.
Hope that helps
Thanks Becky for such useful tips 😊
Where there's a will there's a way, good to see you enjoying the landy, another good video Becky, onwards and upwards, TC x👍
waterfalls👍👍
Haven’t seen many post from you recently. Glad to see you enjoying the great outdoors!
Been on a few trips to the moors recently myself.
Hi Becky Really interesting, you've covered lot's of good stuff. Glad the Landy's reliable. Take care 😅
Great hygiene tips, Becky. Hope you and the Bushwacker family are well. Loving the Landy, btw. 👍❤
Awesome video !
That's fab Becky, will look in to that shower kit!
Great showcase of outdoors showering options. :D
Great information, I appreciate the ideas for women
Brilliant setup. Very informative video for beginners. I love the landy, my landy is about twice as old as your one does that make it ancient😂. I'd can't wait to see you on your new adventures. Atb
As usual awesome video awesome video load of load of excellent information and plus it keeps you beautiful be safe.❤
Very informative video Becky. 👍
The black shower bag will soon heat up the water when you get to sunnier climes. Good set up you've got there.
SAFE JOURNEYS !!!
Very good tips, Becky! Great video!
I really enjoy what you are you doing keep
It up !!’
Absolute legend this lass
Nice shower set up Becky.
Hi Becky, Make yourself at home have a Bath or a Shower, be clean and Beautiful 😊
Our resourceful heroine will always find a way to stay fresh and beautiful!
Keep your video’s going !!
Good information and demonstrations on the subject!
I ended up using this cleansing foam body wash a few times when camping. No water needed. I think its something carers use for cleansing bed bound patients. I did feel cleaner than a wet wipe wash.
Fantastic Video, the shower cube is perfect for privacy ay 👍
Well, I watched that with GREAT interest Becks...😉...like all your videos!
Another good one 😊
Enjoyed the video, very informative, i think the swing out shower kit would serve you better in warmer climates but isnt it handy for changing into wet gear for canoeing, surfing and such.
👍🚙👌🇨🇮☘️
Make sure you have some cook rice with those beans and eggs love cook yellow rice yellow rice is my favorite cooked up white rice will do just the same but Indian brown rice is even the best cooked rice will do well with those beans
I make full size shower cabin with ceiling and put in hot air from webasto air top
very nice video .. 👍
Awesome video 👍❤
Ridgemonkey make a shower , it's a 1ol water container with a 12v powered water pump ,for the floor to stop getting muddy feet i have a small inflatable kidies pool to stand in . :)
You’re so great. Try this, fill your bag up and lay it in the Sun while you’re out doing stuff. You’ll have a hot shower then! Happy camping girl!! Be safe
I personally use solar shower ^. It has 15L of water, so way enough and use it too for my dish ! It is light and portable anywhere. But I must also admit that all these videos obout overlanding and rooftent stuff, are attracting so many people that I don't know where we gonna park soon, as more and more places are forbidden for camping cars or equipped vehicules... So think twice before buying all the things cause you may ending spending lots of money and sleep in a camping next to others cars with roof tents.. In Europe, this is not easy to find places... Good luck. I looking forward watching your adventures 🙂
Very nice video ❤
You should try and get over here to Tenerife, nice 3 day ferry ride from Spain and some great places to park up. Looking forward to your Europe travels - though I guess you know about the 90 day rule for UK citizens when entering Europe?
EU, not Europe…. ;-). England is still in Europe, not in the EU though… where those rules are applied…. Maybe a visit to norway in between will change or reset the total period? As Norway isn’t in the EU either (although a european country too) there are more european countrys who are not (yet) in the EU who are worth visiting in a 4x4 , like swiss..
Well, that one took your breath away hahaha....well done you for braving that cold shower . If you ever get the opportunity, try Hozelock dog showers...Good and sturdy, takes a fair amount of water and it's under pressure. I got one for a grid down situation. Great video mate, something that's well overlooked
샤워텐트가 좋아보이네요. 화장실 텐트로 같이 이용해도 좋을것 같습니다😅
Brilliant video 👍❤️
Thank you!
@@GirlOutdoors A goddess walks among us
You could use a wooden shower mat or a plastic door mat to save your feet from getting mucky.
Great vid!!!
Queen Victoria only bathed every 6 months . Just carry a lot of perfume 🙂
Good 💯❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
Hi Becks. I noticed you used tent pegs for your private shower/changing room. Would it be much of a problem if you were parked on tarmac in a lay-by for example & you couldn't obviously use those pegs ? Great tips mate xx
Your shower hose is actually a bum gun 😄.
good ideas
Good cup of black coffee 5 gallons of black coffee 5 gallons of tea with those beans and rice it's a good day to go to the outhouse road 250 a month for an outhouse 1350 a day you'll be needing your outhouse after you finish your morning breakfast love and hugs love breakfast 5 gallons five five things of rice yellow rice is my favorite love and hugs
You do archery? I'm an archer myself. I use a longbow!
Your an amazing girl becky 💯👌😘
Thanks, don’t forget about America. ✌🏻👊🏼
Hi Buster.
You could use dry shower, though that probably wouldn't help the feet
Have you looked into the Depo injection?
🤗🤗
❤❤
Being in the outdoors is no reason for keeping sweaty and dirty its important we wash or shower even if it's just to help keep our minds on top , yeh its important also to use a environmental friendly soap so it degrades properly .
Hi Buster were is your dad? ✌🏻👊🏼
The water jug is $319 on Amazon
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I don’t know why I was expecting a Power Shower 😅
👍👍👍👍
Is that jacket petromax? Couldn’t see that exact one on the site...
Yes I have the Petromax Loden anorak :)
@GirlOutdoors Thanks, still couldn’t find it though….all the ones on the site have zips around the neck :(
Hi.
Showers = life affirming. Stripped down washes, fine too. Always wash private areas twice a day. An inbuilt mechanism for non-knuckle draggers. Women have other issues that are explained in this wonderful video.🙌🙌👌👌
Superbe
