Great song and good singing. From the mills and mines to the corporate world always the same toils ever since the fall of Eden. Don’t let the buggers get you down!
Hi Rich, did you see recent discussion on Mudcat? I'm pretty sure it's part of the lubrication mechanism for the loom, but I can no longer find the place where I looked that up.
Brian Peters Hello, yes , thanks Peter, and I'd meant to put that link. mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=55979#3875830 I was hoping this might get some extra views. It's frustrating me that nothing comes up on Google so I was wondering if it could have been a misunderstanding by Keith, his diction IS quite positive though. When I looked at lubricating devices for looms I seemed to be getting modern misting devices and older wicking systems. A dam implies to me oil running about the place. But I'm no engineer.
Not heard this song before but am really enjoying listening to it.
Written by the late Keith Marsden, great singer songwriter, look for his other work.

Love that I found you here! Great to hear these songs. Are they all old tunes? Your singing is so pleasant .. you are a skillful storyteller
1:24 "seek-oil dam"

Excellent rendition Brian. Good song at any time but you’ve got just the right amount of “bite” on it..
Many thanks, Stuart. I feel quite a bit of anger in the song, as well as pathos.
This is a very good rendition; however, can we just correct the name of the town in the description to 'Morley', very nice place.
Thanks Pedrinho - fixed it! Sorry for the typo - I know Morley well too.
