2021 Chery Tiggo 4 Pro - Test Drive and Review

  • Chery enters the South African market again, but this time it's very serious. The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro competes against rivals such as the Toyota Urban Cruiser, Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and... the Haval Jolion. Just how good is this Chinese newcomer? Is the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro worth consideration in the sub-R400 000 compact crossover segment? I review the new Chinese crossover in this video.

    Hannes, Hannes, Hannes! You sir are an old dog in this game. It's so good to hear your educated opinion on this. Gives that much needed perspective in the market. Proper car guys reviewing cars with that proper old-school journalistic eye. Way too many "influencers" reviewing cars while lacking that bit of nuance these days. I look forward to hearing more from you, especially as the industry goes through the biggest shifts in our lifetime. That of the arrival and possible disruption of Chinese brands and the imminent electrification revolution.

    Great Video. I am on the market for a new vehicle and had a look at this when launched late November last year, took the SE model and was rather impressed. Responsive under the foot. My problem is I do high mileage averaging 4700-5500km per month, and not too sure if I would be getting my money's worth when wanting to trade in. What are your thoughts on the Kia Sonet? Hi Hannes, I have just watched this review. Thank you for your open and honest review on the Tiggo. I am a VW person through and through and have been looking at the T-Cross for a while. I test drove the Jolion but was not entirely convinced. I am going to test drive the Sonet and the Tiggo 4 Pro. Bearing in mind the T-Cross is more expensive, can I put you on the spot. In your opinion and based on your tests, which of these 3 vehicles would you go for? PS: I have subscribed to your channel.

      Hi Craig. Thanks for subscribing. Firstly I think the Tiggo 4 will impress you very much with its build (even as a VW man). If going with a Chinese brand still makes you feel uncomfortable, then I think the Sonet is a really good option. But honestly, the value offering of the Jolion and Tiggo 4 is just on another level.

      Hi there. Unfortunately I started this channel after I had the Haval Jolion on test. If you have any questions, I can however assist you with my opinions. Feel free to ask.

    • @saiengovender2811
      @saiengovender2811 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haval has a 15 year or so history, but parts are still ordered from China (is this true?).
      It’s hard to see now, but Chery seems to be more promising long term, assuming all goes well next 5 years.
      What are your thoughts here?
      And what’s your take on reliability given the level of confidence instilled by the manufacturers?-any major red flags, or things to consider there?

    • @saiengovender2811
      @saiengovender2811 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chery is seemingly putting more money in R&D and I can see the confidence it’s instilling by having parts manufactured here.

    • @Hannes_Oosthuizen
      @Hannes_Oosthuizen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm.. not sure what parts you refer to as both are full imports. Both are backed by major companies investing billions in expanding worldwide operations (and R&D). I think the Chery has the nicer drivetrain in terms of performance and efficiency. In terms of longevity its hard to say at this point but both offer strong warranties. Knowing how serious these two players are I would not be too concerned if you are buying new.

    • @saiengovender2811

      @@Hannes_Oosthuizen I’m glad we have new competitors in this segment, and it’s really between this Chery Tiggo 4 Pro and Haval Jolion
      Tiggo is more responsive and the gearbox is better I feel-better drivetrain indeed, and the smaller size makes it more manageable on the road. The Jolion is more of a cruiser, but definitely no slouch, and I see myself in more comfort there.

    Ai Hannes...a product is premium when it's name is desirable...Chery and its poor name is anything BUT desirable. It's typical Chinese predatory marketing. They have to spec to the teeth otherwise they won't get sales. People who can afford an established premium brand would not even look at cheap and Chinese....

    • @Hannes_Oosthuizen
      @Hannes_Oosthuizen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for the engagement Daniel. I think you should go have a sit in a Tiggo 4 and compare the materials with its rivals. It "looks" and "feels" premium by comparison. Its not only about spec. They have significantly moved in terms of build, in my opinion, past the India-sourced vehicles.

    • @danielbredenkamp3957
      @danielbredenkamp3957 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hannes_Oosthuizen thanks Hannes, I agree on face value it looks good. However, bling-bling does not impress me and the underpinnings remain key. It will have to prove itself in years to come. There is definitely on the lower end of the market space for vehicles such as this but I don't think it would really attract buyers who traditionally bought VW or Toyota. Brand name, what it stand for and reliablitity through well proven products would still play a significant role. I, for one, would never consider a Chinese vehicle due to its roots and its proven poor quality and reliability.

    • @Hannes_Oosthuizen
      @Hannes_Oosthuizen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think Haval is showing that it can be done (taking sales away from the traditional brands). I used to work for Haval and visited the factories in China, interviewed senior engineers and designers (all poached from Europe, America etc.) and can tell you that I'm not surprised by the rapid progress.

      @@Hannes_Oosthuizen thanks Hannes. But Haval and GWM....personally I will never consider any of their products. But like I said, their is space on the budget end of the market where they play. Maybe in a 5 years time they will surprise us by being as reliable as the Koreans. But up to that point their products will be met with skepticism 🤨

    • @theomoller6637
      @theomoller6637 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that you can’t compare this chery with the previous junk. I think that Chery got the right people in. This vehicle is way better than some of the vehicles in the same price range. ALL the reviews are goid about this vehicle and these people drive a lot of cars so i would believe what Hannes tells us. Even Haval is doing excellent. Even a waiting list for the Jolion. I don't like the Chinese but i think they've did something right with Chery and Haval. Do more homework and maybe, just maybe you will change your mind. But on the other hand, that could be difficult because if you are a Stormers fan, you will NEVER EVER support a Bulls team.
