Powerful 200,000 BTU Wok Jet Burner! SHIN RAMEN Stir Fry

  • In an effort spend more time staying in, I found a new hobby that I hope to share with you. Trying to reproduce the wonderful restaurant dishes at home. But like all things in life, in order to get the job done, you need right tools. I have my wok, and now my wok burner has arrived! This is a (almost) 200,000 BTU stainless steel Jet Burner; worthy of utilizing the wok to its full potential.
For the inaugural cook, I'm going to stir fry some Shin Ramen noodles. This will a good test to see how quickly the burner can boil the noodles, see how the heat helps with the stir fry, and of course, how well a egg can be fried in the wok. I've tried to stir fry instant ramen noodles on the electric range before, but it just wasn't hot enough; leaving a stodgy mess. I'm excited to see how this cook goes.
In case you're interested, here is a link to the equipment I'm using:
    Wok Burner:
    • Bayou Classic SP2 Double Jet Cooker (210k BTU)
    • amzn.to/356yASl (US)
    • amzn.to/2Z9tsJg (CAN)
    • This is a slightly more powerful burner than the one I'm using in the video. This probably would have been a better choice.
    • King Kooker 12" Stainless Steel Double Jet Cooker Package (180k BTU)
    • This is the burner I'm using in the video.
    Wok:
    • Winco Chinese Wok with Integral Handle, 16-Inch, Black, Medium
    • amzn.to/3bwsnQD (US)
    • amzn.to/327RpTr (CAN)
    • This is is a slightly larger wok than the one I used, and probably would have been a better choice.
    • Winco Chinese Wok with Integral Handle, 14-Inch, Black
    • amzn.to/2QVFiSO (US)
    • amzn.to/322jsmR (CAN)
    • This is the wok I'm using in the video.

In an odd, and depressing yet heartening sort of way, it's really fun to catch up at your abode. The story for all of us at the moment. Something of the Vancouver version of Dale and his cabin. Just curious what happened to the tandoor? Also, when you hit the throttle on that wok, it reminded me of the Shuttle videos from NASA, right on the launch pad as the engines ignited and throttled up. Stay safe with this thing, and thanks for sharing a bit of Tim Lee and his "cabin".

Hi, I want to get a wok burner and just watched both of your wok videos. How do you like the new powerful one compared to your old one (which I'm guessing is 50-80k BTUs)?

    • @TimLeeLetsGo
      @TimLeeLetsGo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Blue, thanks for reaching out. Definitely go get one; it turns out to be lots of fun. I really like the Jet burner I have now (the last one was about 60k BTUs and was pretty good as well). Just make sure you get a burner that can focus the heat to a center spot. Some burners, while having a high btu, spread out the flame too much making it ineffective. I left some links in the description in case that's helpful. I do like the stainless steel version that I have as its more resistant to weathering (I do not know of any paint that can withstand the heat that theses things give out). Hope this helps :-)

Love the burner... you have too much YELLOW flame, it needs more air so the flame should be 100% BLUE. Try adjusting your air intake. Having a blue flame will give you less soot on the bottom of your wok! I'm going to look into this, always wanted a wok setup in my backyard in the San Francisco area.

How to season carbon steel wok. heat it up until it turn silver all over > NOT GLOWING RED HOT < > Let it cool then wash it out with a scrubber, soap, and water. Dry off ! Pour some oil in it, get it boiling hot, with some onions. move it around all over the inside of the wok. for at less 10. pour out the oil, onions! dry off and its ready to cook
