- 👋 In todays review we check out the all new 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e! This trim level is the only plug in hybrid X5 that is available and offers a lot! I think that the hybrid technology is the best of both worlds! The technology is still evolving, but this 2024 BMW X5 can go around 40 miles on just EV alone, which really adds a good bit to the overall range for this SUV! The BMW X5 xDrive50e is powered by a 3L twin turbo inline six cylinder which is the same as the other xDrive models, but is paired with the hybrid system! With over 500 pound feet of torque, this is more powerful and quicker than the inline six by itself! If you are looking for a family SUV, but you want power, excellent range and practicality, this is a great option! The exterior for this 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e is finished off in dravit grey and has a great look! Paired with the wheels and even the beige interior, it's a nice spec! The interior also has very nice materials and trim accents throughout! It features the all new infotainment and gauge cluster screen and new shifter!
The driving experience for this 2024 BMW X5 xdrive50e is very nice! As you would expect from BMW, it's comfortable, quiet and would be a great daily driver! The exhaust note too sounds great and I'm sure you could make it louder, which I would want to do!
I'd love to own either the X5 or X3 at some point, because these are great SUV's for the money and offer a lot!
There is also plenty of room for passengers and cargo so there is no shortage of space! Definitely add the 2024 BMW X5 to your list if you want the best of both worlds!

Nice video as always! Since you’ve driven both, do you prefer the 40i or the 50e? Is the air suspension on the 50e a lot better than the 40i? Thanks!
They both feel similar. The 50e has more power with the EV system and it's fun to use the hybrid aspects. Both are great just depends on your budget and style you like better
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Thank you for the reply! I am deciding between 50e and 40i. I have a mixed opinion on it being hybrid. But I would love to have the air suspension if it provides a better ride. I guess I have to go for a test drive. Hopefully I can find a dealer with both to test drive. Thanks again!
@yoop2012 you should definitely get the 50e in long winter drives you can tell the difference . Plus driving it to work on electric pays for itself
@@yoop2012 I actually own a 45e now! Had it almost 2 months now! It was either the 40i or 45e and it popped up and had everything I wanted so decided to go with the hybrid! Gets 450 miles and easy to charge with a normal outlet! The 50e gets a bit more EV range as well. I like it!
@@albertoftw Depends on how far the commute is! It’s only about 40 or so miles, but also have to factor in charging costs.
On high way driving, what’s the hybrid mpg? And what about when the electric has run out?
I didn’t drive on the highway so the numbers I gave is all I have. But when the electric system runs out. You are driving just on the gas engine like a normal car.

Since the ( 40i X-Drive ) and the ( 50e X-Drive ) have about a 500lb difference in curb weight , do you feel any major differences in how they feel with weight balance / handling?
Not really, they aren’t performance oriented enough to feel that difference!
🤔 why is the ev-range for the X5 50e only about 40 miles (64 kilometer)in the US but 106 kilometer in Europe? In real life about 90 kilometer. Do they use different batteries in the X5 in the US?
I don’t know that answer. My 45e is about 32 or so. I wouldn’t think they are different.
My questions that I have yet to have answered.
Why can't the plug in hybrid get the B&W stereo? It's available in Europe.
Why don't they do the X6 with the phev? It's shape is more conducive for the EV aspect.
The optional stereo is Harmon kardon!

I test drove on recently. Electric on freeway maintained electric only at 80 mph.
Yeah, it’s top speed in just electric is about that.
Also keep in touch with a mechanic, in case someone is going to keep it out of warranty.

An X5 M60i will get you 15 mpg combined, XDrive 40i, around 20mpg. Get a 45e or a 50e and your mpgs will get in the 50mpg range combined. Most of us live in the city, you can't imagine how much can you do only on electric range.

I own a 45e and honestly don't use the EV by itself very often if at all! It's much better to use for highway driving from what I have seen! Around the city, in just EV when I have tried it, is ok, but with the weight of the X5, EV alone is really for parking lot situations or maybe once you are cruising. Definitely great mpg though!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I have a 22 45e as well 😄, and in 30k miles we average around 58mpg combined. It's a great car for the city.
Have a level 2 at home, so a lot of days I drive 40-50 miles, all electric
@@florinvid I have a 22, the range is only 31 miles on EV, how do you get more than that? Not looking to spend money on a level 2 charger, normal outlet can charge it overnight.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I was talking about 2 trips and a charge in between. 😄 Sorry about the confusion. The most I got on all electric was 42 miles on one charge.
I could do all that because of. Level 2, and I think it's totally worth it. You can have a full charge in 3.5 hrs, tHt way you can travel even 60-70 miles on pure electric in a day, on short trips of course.
@@florinvid sure if you go home multiple times a day, that can work.. why don’t you use the hybrid system combined? It’s not a vehicle designed to be a full EV. But if that’s what you want to do.

Rear seat leg room is very tight, like those in a compact car. Compare Leg Room Front/Rear: BMW x5 xdrive50e: 39.4/37.4 vs. Honda Fit: 41.4/39.3😪
I own an X5 and I don’t agree with that, very spacious even for someone 6ft tall! All depends on how the front seat is positioned.
The back seat cannot be reclined, long rides is not very comfortable.
It’s not bad at all. I’ve had people in mine in long trips and they are comfortable.
it can actually tow over 7,000 lb
The hybrid is less, I own a 45e, it tows less than the 40i, so this hybrid can’t tow that much.
the only reason to get the ICE engine is because non Tesla cars still have really bad charging infrastructure. in every other way EVs are better they are faster and quieter etc.
Yeah charging the EV cars can be annoying. Unless you don't travel far and have a charger in your garage. Just not the best as of now. However I much prefer ICE cars. So much more fun to drive
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Slow noisy vibrating cars are not more fun to drive. Quiet smooth cars with instant torque are fun to drive. Many non-Tesla EVs will start to access the supercharger network next year. The vast majority of EVs on the road are Teslas. Adding non-Tesla EVs next year won't be much of a burden.
I was that close getting a Tesla, glad I drove it for a weekend - no regrets. Bottom line, our time is not ready for all EV yet. PHEV is the way to go.
@@CMCNestT Depends on what you want. I’d never buy an EV, not my style at all. I want character and like the old school feel of the cars I own.
Sure a Tesla is fast in a straight line, but only so many times you can do that before it needs to be charged or you get sick from the G’s. Not worth it to me for that instant power either. But if you enjoy it, great, have fun.
@@X5Soon I don’t think EV’s will become popular. They have sold a lot, but a lot of people are going back and the hybrid tech is way more efficient and better for the environment as well!

BUYER BEWARE . My brand new 2024 plug in X5 BRICKED after owning for 2 weeks. At the dealer now 3 weeks waiting for parts from Germany.

You don’t pay extra tax to charge it at home, no different than plugging in your phone..
