Nothing can destroy RME
Gotta agree with Whitesea on this......
It doesn't "destroy" but still better. Lol hey huge fan of your channel by the way!! Lol
Can you buy RME from Temu? Asking for a friend.
no, but they sell great nail polish @@chizzulwinduh1941

Same as Antelope.
Same experience here. Just tried a Zen Q for a year now ... will kick it and buy a Babyface. It's simply a pain.
You nailed it. Their hardware may be great, but without equally great drivers, its a doorstop. Value is NOT there with Antelope.

For real! 😂. Good luck getting that antelope to function five years from now. And good luck getting it to work with windows 😂

Antelope is trash. Great hardware but awful drivers and software that makes all of their devices useless and so unreliable. I had to shift to a Merging Horus and Anubis after giving up with them.
@@pdmcrew80 I went with a RME UFX III and have never looked back. Best decision I've made with my home studio. Superior piece of equipment in every way.
Yup this. Kind of weird slamming RME with this unstable, unreliable brand
I have a Motu 828es with a Motu 24Ai that are part of the Motu AVB ecosystem and I’m really happy with it. I don’t really understand why is that when it comes to high end network capable audio interface we always hear about those 5k-6k interfaces from UA, RME or others but nobody talks about Motu AVB interfaces that are much cheaper but works really well. A 828es and a 24Ai together cost less than 2K and give you 32 line level inputs, 2 mic/inst inputs with phantom power, 8 line level outputs, 2 sets of outs for monitors, 2 phone outs plus 5 sets of ADAT in and outs. I’ve been running this setup for more than 2 years now on both Mac and PC and it just works flawlessly.
@@Pintosonic I have al Motu Ultralite MK5 and RME ADI -FS Pro.
Sonically, they both sound similar, just that RME interfaces cost more 💰😩.
Motu’s very underrated brand .
newer motu products sound amazing for their price
Nailed it. I have a Motu 16A and a 24Ai. I have TONS of inputs. Sound great and didn't cost an arm and a leg.
828es + ultralite mk5 ftw!
MOTU is pretty good, I admit, but not quite RME when it comes to stability and drivers. It was quite an adventure getting it to work on Mac and with various OS and DAW versions. RME just worked right out of the box. People can say "all you have to do is this and that" or give me demagoguery and platitudes and personal attacks, but really, I want to pay, get an interface, and have it work. Supply and demand in a competitive market. Whoever supplies whatever I want, gets my money.
Antelope developed such a poor customer support reputation that they have to pay people like poor Glen to try and move their products again ☹️
God bless Glenn if true. Everyone needs to make a living!
The Galaxy on Features are amazing, but I had bad experiences with Antelope and I am one of so many others
I did have a terrible interaction with their tech support this last month, but my interface still works amazingly and it was worth the tears and time to save me from having to by another interface. We'll see how their software and tech support perform over the next few years. I'm exploring and saving for possible alternatives.
@@tysonkingreymusic5188 Lynx is the best , I have my Lynx aurora 16 working for 12 years , sounding great and rock solid every day!
Antelope Customer Support is the best in the industry. Can you suggest someone with 21H per day free phone support from the industry ?
Antelope rocks - I'm an Orion Gen 3 user myself. I used RME stuff for a solid 20 years before switching, and I really loved their gear, but now there's just no way I'd switch back. Not to crap on RME, but they really don't have anything that compares to it. It's the difference between a BMW and a Ferrari; the BMW definitely doesn't suck, but a Ferrari is a Ferrari. Being able to do 32 channels of analog I/o through a single 1 rack unit - no lightpipe, no MADI, no external clocking or any other convoluted bullshit - has just made life so much better. I don't even need to make a composite audio device. Not everybody is going to need a channel count like that - but if you're planning on tracking a band live it's gonna save an ungodly amount of hassle. Plus the plug-ins are some of the best I've ever heard; usually I don't care much for plugins - but these are so close to actual hardware, it's pretty difficult to tell which is hardware and which isn't when you A-B them.
It's important to note that the network cables needed for the Rj-45 to 25 pin D plug adapter needs to be SHIELDED - regular Cat-5 cables won't work. If the RJ-45 connector housing on the cable doesn't have a steel covering, it's the wrong cable. Most cat-5 or 6 cables are going to have a housing made only from plastic - that is NOT what you want. You specifically need shielded cable.
Utp is fine for line & mic level. You only need STP for phantom power
I also have the orion gen 3 and its rock solid. No way I’d change at this point.
Hey Glenn, I just wanted to tell you that all the hard work you put into making these videos appealing is appreciated. You have come a long way in the years you've been doing this show and it shows. Thanks!!
You're stepping up the production value in you videos. Nice. Shows you there is always something to improve, even when it's good already.
I‘ll stick with RME. Since 15 years not a single issue. The drivers are stable as hell and rock solid, so is the hardware, too. Nothing comes close to RME.
And what do you connect to if Apple and/or PCs do not offer Thunderbolt (backward) compatibillity anymore?
Thunderbolt seems to be converging with USB. USB 4 2.0 and Thunderbolt 5 are compatible. The first version of USB 4 is Thunderbolt 3 compatible. This is more promising than the FireWire situation that Apple created. It is entirely possible that the USB spec will abandon the old implementations, but so far USB 2.0 (24 years old!) device compatibility has been mandated with each USB spec release.
i am about to jump to RME from apogee, apogee is great but they are dropping support for my ensemble thunderbolt. Im not going to spent 7k in a symphony with thunderbolt 2 or 9k on one with dante, i had my eye on a Focusrite Red 16Line, but the RME 802 caught my attention
Your story is the same as mine. I recently upgraded to the ufx III from a Aio pci. The sound is so surgical it's almost scary. I can't believe usb 3 is this stable!
Leaving an occasional comment whilst these videos play in the background. Get well soon Julie xx
32 channel neve console, wow, that's exactly what I have in my bedroom studio. I'm sold!
yeah... I was looking at a YT'er with his 'small' 16 channel console (OoraMusic) and went to the website - $41k. OK...
Imagine the Audiofiles finding out music is recorded through ethernet cables and the drop thousands of dollars on interconnects andf IEC mains cables that they can hear make a difference.
Why arent all reviewers as expressive like this guy .. straight to the point 🤟🏽
The #1 place you can save yourself money in pro audio is always making your own cables.
The only thing is, a cat5 is a high point of failure if you are doing live stage work from city to city. It's not as rugged as you need for stage runs.
But you can still use them in your racks!
Great video as always,
Thanks!
Agreed. In the studio, however, it’s not an issue
You can buy ruggedized CAT for live tour use from places like Sound Tools and Elite Core. They both make "tactical" CAT cables (5e, 6, 7) that lay flat and can be stepped on. They also use Neutrik Ethercon-style connectors... Basically an RJ-45 within an XLR shell that locks in place on compatible equipment.
@@soundman1402 yep! We make cables with Rapco and NE8 connectors. You can make a 100' rugged cat6 for about $100. We will use that for data transfer runs such as AES or Dante to our sound board & stage boxes, or to run to our DMX light control board.
But we'll still use normal XLR, DMX, and powercon for most everything on stage.
@@TheAT5000 gotcha. Yeah, I'd given thought to using CAT snakes as e.g. drum drop snakes, but for the 8 channels there'd be two runs of CAT. I'd rather use an analog drop snake and have just the one bundled cable.
Dear glenn, your unboxing cinematic is extraordinary. Clap clap to the editor.
(Not that clap)
I work for a company that USED to be a dealer for a reason. Drivers, support and service WILL bite you in the rear. Well, you have a platform so you might get mainlined. But, the average Joe gets let down after dropping big bucks.
the customer support from my experience wasn't that bad on an older interface
@@TheNicoDavisfrom my experience, customer support were ok, but I had many issues with the discrete 4. Many times I fired it up and it just didn’t connect that day. A preamp died on mine, but I suppose that can happen on any piece of audio gear. However, got burned and went to Motu, as that was what I used to have and ran solid for years. The 828es has been running beautifully.
All this Chinese crap can break
I'm really happy with the MOTU AVB ecosystem. I've spent ~$2500 on two of their interfaces (one is almost exclusively for outs so keep that in mind when I'm crunching the numbers) and I have 16 in and 40 out just natively, and ADAT expandable to a total of 48 ins and 88 outs.
Love the motu stuff but where are they with new products/updates!?

Very happy with my Antelope interfaces and I have to say, they are stable. Early on, they were a bit flaky.
Good to hear thats now the case. Yeah that flaky software support back then was quite well documented.
Definitely glad to hear this, and this post needs to get further up! I've seen multiple comments where people talk about their poor support and stability earlier on, and somehow I think they believe that this company can continue on making new products and staying afloat while still being practically unusable. Not sure how that logic works in their minds...
I am glad to see you have had a stable experience, maybe they have changed in recent years. I suppose my prior comment is outdated as well then...
@@supplebiscuit That's what I remember from 2017, I was looking into the Zen Studio. It was a USB interface, then a thunderbolt, then it was discontinued , and then I read about no support for legacy gear. And they had changed the FPGA chips seemingly every quarter and nothing previous was compatible with latest.
The Galaxy is a flagship interface, I'm sure there will be great support for it into the future.
Its like the issue with SSL and the "cheaper" gear they've started making. I have the SSL SiX, my coworkers son bought one as well and then the logic board fried itself. Cost him a grand to get fixed, no warranty, no support for "Consumer" level gear from SSL. Where as I had a scarlet interface, that originally had a 2 year warranty, and then the headphone jack blew just a month after the 2 year mark, and they honored the new 3 year warranty plan for the interface and fixed it for free. Customer service goes a long way. I don't care if the item is deemed to be "consumer grade" or "pro". I don't like the idea that gear that's $100 - $1000 is considered disposable only because there is more expensive gear out there.
I just hope so. My Discrete 8 went back to Thomann after 20 days. It was simply useless with Mac OSX and slow. Had perfect sound, but couldn’t rely on it for a minute. Plugins were stalling, launcher was frozen or dropped it… After RME FF it was nightmare. Apollo x6 is good now, but UAD is a marketing bs nightmare now and a moneypit.
This reminds me of that military saying, amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics. Just like pedal boards get determined by patch cables and power supplies, so does a studio runs on cabling, signal routing and smart power routing.
My hobby studio doesn’t need this many channels (yet?), but I love your content so I watched anyway and this is a great example of why: I had no idea that anyone made a DB25/RJ45 adapter! Thank you for the fantastic, pragmatic material dude. Great as always!
I agree. Antelope is pretty amazing. Glad to see you again at AES.

What’s amazing about RME is that you never ever have to worry about drivers or the interface when you are on Windows and have a RME Interface. It is one part of your setup that just works no matter which Version on Win you’re on. I still have the Raydat with Apogee converters since WIN 7, switched 3-4 PC systems in that time, now on WIN11. Name me one other company that has supported their interfaces for such a long time.
Unlike the drivers for the Presonus Firestudio converter that lost driver support after 3 years and turned in to doorstop.
I took the budget way: double Focusrite Saffire Pro40 both expanded with Behringer ADA8200 gave me 32 ins and 32 outs. All that patched to a nice analogue console… It’s more than enough for me. I don’t make a living out of it, but setup is rock solid. No Mac nor MacOS updates though (that is actually the blessing from my point of view). Greetings☀️
Forgot to mention that it’s all through the trustworthy old Firewire800.
Hey if it works ...it works! Those ADA8200 sound fine from what I've heard. Firewire 800 is plenty of bandwidth for audio. Well done as far as 'keeping up with the Jone's"

It is entirely accurate and understandable that Glenn has chosen Antelope over other alternatives. I hope that over time you can give us more feedback on the drivers where so many people complain about Antelope. congratulations!
A 1-2 year check in would be interesting.
My almost 20 year old RME multiface beats the Antelope drivers, which can't run some of my plugin heavy projects.
Recently bought a Fireface 3 mainly just for the drivers and using the IO of the Orion via MADI. Works great!
Congrats on a very well made video. The idea of using DB25 adapters is brilliant. One thing to add is if you use a network cable you can use one with shielding on each twisted pair this way you could lower the leakage between channels running on the same cable I think it is CAT-7 that is built with a separated shield to each twisted pair of signal cable inside just like the more expensive audio snake.
I don't often do this, but I have to give you major kudos, Glenn!! You've built one hell of a studio!! But you really should have started out with much better cable management. In fact, if you learn to make your own cables, you save a shitload more money. And you can cut them to whatever custom length you want. You could have it so nice and clean, you wouldn't even have to see the cable mess. ✌️
At this price point Antelope has missed the mark. You can get a Lynx Aurora 32TB for basically the same price. The Lynx will have a second thunderbolt output and you can daisy chain up to six of the Lynx units together. You can't do that with the Antelope.
Interesting. The Lynx stuff is top notch, no question there. But for that price, they should throw in ADAT & Dante as well.
Hey Glen! The Antelope is a solid solution if you don't already have existing RME stuff. But if you want to keep your RME gear and have their bulletproof drivers and familiar workflow, the Ferrofish A32Pro can expand your RME I/O via MADI, ADAT, or Dante while saving you a decent chunk of change.
Also, regards from Gradus Group! Great catching you at the tail end of AES!
-David Adler
It's called "Converters". There's tons available and they're easy to connect via MADI, Dante, Etc.
just throwing this in, but if you look RME this year is releasing extremely similar units to the antelope in their m-1620 and they said there is a 32 channel either coming out or is out. with that 1, dont know the model name. they are also offering these units with dante or avb, still have madi etc. they are also looking to be about 1k cheaper than the antelope it looks like for the 32 channel. the 16 channel is listing at $3400. just putting this in there for those that do not have a console but might have good preamps or a live mixer , etc. and need more simultaneous input/output. personally i run a ufx+ and i have never had the need in my situation to run that many inputs, but if i did, i am glad to see there is a lot more options now than ever for a small studio.
Another solution to your setup was the Digiface, there is already Dante Digiface and they reach 64 channels, you can add your entire system through Digifaces Adat and Dante.
the thomann catboxes can be modified easily. no soldering, just rearrange the internal connector.
Could you please post a link to the Thomman cat boxes
BTW, Glenn, your AES incompatibility may be on the DB25 end... Make sure whether your equipment uses a TASCAM or Yamaha pinout. Catherine North makes the DB25-RJ45 connectors for each pinout.
Did I just hear that you want to give me that Schecter as a present... so kind of you! 😂 Looking forward to that video.
That video you posted when your new Neve console computer went down really did a job on me as you brought up some great points about the stability and longevity of these very expensive pieces of gear. The takeaway for me was to keep everything modular and try to separate the hardware completely from the software. A good bench tech should be able to keep the former operating for decades if you love it. The latter is a moving target and is only as good as the company support and the last code update…
Thank you for this, your last video directed me to Catherine North. They have been great! I bought about 50 of these. I am using it with my Galaxy 64 and some slim cables. So much better than those thick DB25's. I use it between my Redco patchbays, my galaxy and my outboard gear. Then use my Wing and 3 Midas boxes to connect all my synths. Then pass between the galaxy 64, Wing and Marian Clara E through Dante. All slim cables that are easy to manage. I am currently connecting the Ethernet to DB25's with the planet waves modular snake breakouts (left over from my DB25 setup) but just moved studios so not sure how it will work vs the typical CAT breakout boxes. Would be better to have 8 connectors vs 4. Basically, switching out the thick db25 cable with 2 slim Ethernet cables.
I just discovered you and… … OMFG ARE YOU AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No s*** though this new setup you got is going to be the s*** man that's the real there where you can have whatever you want on every single Channel just don't overdo it Glen

great to see this in more detail!
RME has incredibly stable drivers and very intuitive routing options, my 802 has been going strong for a long time. I've seen extremely troubling first hand accounts with antelope gear from people I trust. Their feature sets, aesthetics, and asking price would have me assume they are extremely nice pieces of gear, but driver stability is my number one concern. Edit - have been seeing a lot more evidence that these issues have been resolved over the years. Might have to take a look if my RME breaks.
This is my personal experience with Antelope: I have, still use, and rely on a Zen Studio+. Yes, I do have a handful of tearful software issues(the most recent this past month). Yes, the tech support is not great ie. inconsistent knowledge base from tech to tech, long wait times, and at one point, threat of firmware issues. But, I'll wrap by saying this, the last firmware update is solid, it works with my 2023 M2 MBP, and I can't give up their signature clocking and great pres. BTW!!! I have 12 multi-inputs 2 8ch D-sub i/o and a little bit more, the virtual patching is great, and it's also very portable.
Hmmm… hope they keep up with the drivers…
Unlike Presonus with their "Firestudio" Converter which turned into a doorstop after 3 years...
Word around town is they've been getting better. It would be shocking if a company continued on for years releasing new products while having completely unusable software and bad support...
If it's good for Abbey Roads, it's good for me. Glad to see Antelope get some flowers, they deserve it. The BAE emulations are some of the best imo.
You’ve spent big $ on a good mixing console, only to cheap out on the cabling.
Audio cables are more expensive for a reason. They have shielding.
You have given up your EMI / RFI interference protection in going cheap on the cabling.
If you are happy, go for it. I’m not ready to give up on my cable shielding.
... You are aware S/FTP Cat(n) cables are fully shielded and have great EMI/RFI rejection right?
Ferrofish are an awesome option and used in a lot of live stuff. Antelope are a bit boutique and trendy but haven't heard great things about their support.
How much better does this kind of setup sound than something super simple that gets the same IO capabilities like a Behringer Wing with a Midas 32 stage box? (Just curious about the difference in the resulting sound quality)

I have 2 RME Fireface 800s and an ADI-8 into a 24 channel console.
They stopped making drivers for the 800s in 2009, and I can only use them on the last windows 10 machine I have.
RME clearly makes solid gear, it's a bummer when the gear outlasts the support though,.
The reason you want multiple audio interfaces vs just one is when it breaks you can still work with less channels vs not work at all.
Plus the cost to replace a broken interface will be cheaper when it has less channels.
I recently got the Antelope Zen Quadro. I am completely with you on the learning curve and the lack of educational videos. The software has been a bitch to get my head around, but now that I'm understanding how it works, it is actually really powerful and pretty easy to use.
The one problem I am having though, is as an audio interface playback device, it works really well, TH-cam, Online TV, DAW all come across great and at even level but Plug a guitar in and I have to smash the levels to hear my input. Even though it is registering a strong input signal. I assume I am not doing something correctly but getting any hints, tips or general info from the internet or Antelope Audio's available video content is just non existent.
While it isn’t cheap, it is reasonably priced for what you are getting
CAT cables are severely underrated for so many things...I ran CAT6 cables to my basement for my surround system in our living room (AVR/equipment are in the basement) and I don't lose any 4k audio or video that I would had I ran the same length HDMI cables (yeah I know, odd you lose signal quality if the length of HDMI is too long)...CAT cables FTW.
Hi Glenn, you should have a talk with Andrew Masters, he uses the same interface and has a great setup with it where he can monitor all of his inputs, through hardware, without even having anything open on his computer.
Just get an Apogee Symphony mi ii with 32 in/out. It crushes with our SSL console and the support is stellar.
Any Rme UFX + a Ferrofish A32 and you're good to go. Routing is a clear win on the RME side too as you can submix any output. Plus you're still able to add 16 io via adat (if you want cheapo converters go for the AdmDA8200)
But yeah, stock, you don't have that much conversion.
There is the M32 line at RME but it is one rack for AD and one rack for DA
As he suggests in the video, that's not only two rack spaces, FAR less cost effective and far less integrated.
Awesome Awesome
You people in the comments aren’t listening. 🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾. Listen to the reason WHY he switched over to the galaxy. Those other brands didn’t provide him with enough ins and outs for the Console. It was less of a headache and more cost effective.
BTW.: There are also Cat 5 multi core cables. That would reduce the cable mess even more. Look for IT installation material, because there these are in use for many years.
Yes! There are also stage-ready quad CAT snakes by the likes of Elite Core and Sound Tools, but they're really expensive!
@@soundman1402 yes, that's exactly, why I proposed to look at the IT installation supply. In his studio Glen probably doesn't need the kind of cable protection, that is needed on the road. He doesn't rip it out and move it around every day, and he doesn't have hundreds of drunken idiots trampling on it every night. So I guess, IT installation material is more than good enough for his use case.
Hate to pee on your chips sic however, they have serious issues with their customer service and support for their kit.
They probably paid him well.
Dude gets payed by all these you got seriously grain through his videos there’s so much back and forth don’t spend money oh but look at this cool thing I bought…. shit like I get it but also his takes sometimes are just nonsense. yes cabs and speakers are huge deals but amps and guitar and pickups do matter and so does mixing gear and computing quality
@@acidpancakes420 Now take a breath and go back a few vids to where he explains (once again) why this is.
Have you ever tried moving a mic to different places across a speaker?
Usually surprises even the biggest pedal board fanatics.
@@acidpancakes420You've clearly missed his multiple videos where he addresses statements like yours, talking about how he does want to show people ways to save money, but doesn't want to skimp out on showing off more expensive products as well. He does after all run a studio. If you're just working out of your bedroom, he has videos for that. If you're running a more serious studio, he's got videos for that.
How dare he appeal to more than one demographic!
I’ve had their product for years. Their customer service exp for me has been the best in the business.
I have a few pieces from cranbourne. It always has issues. No one talks about that and they’re so busy trying to grow they won’t talk to you on the phone. So you’re left reading suggestions of how to try and fix their crap.
Again that company only gets praises. M
Don’t believe what you read.
How is that, at €6.000 comparable to RME and the others? And what about preamps, headphone outs and so on... clearly completely different products for different needs and different budgets. Those units are not meant to connect to a board like that, obviously. What about the RME M-32 DA Pro II-D which is almost €2.000 euro cheaper? Are they "forcing you" to pick a protocol? And if you choose a specific protocol, you can save even more.
Isn’t the m32 only ONE way? You’ll need 32AD as well. How much are both?
@@SpectreSoundStudios Sorry, you are correct, I confused it with the M-1620 Pro but that one is like 36 channels total, with headphones (but way cheaper so you could get two of them for €6000). Still, I don't think the Antelope compares to the product you showed. If RME makes a 32 channel version, that could be comparable and I guess it will be a little cheaper than the Antelope as well! For now, the only comparison is two RME M-1620 Pro but the Antelope seems more convenient and a smarter choice overall, or the Ferrofish A32 Pro MM at half the price, or maybe DirectOut Andiamo Dante but the price is almost the same.
I wouldn't say "destroy", but that sexy beast of an interface is sinking a lot of battleships and this is going to "sound" crazy, but it would be worth every penny and drip of blood.
Hey, I was just cleaning up my studio and I was rolling up the really long microphone cable, and I realized how much I appreciate some of the tricks of the trade I have learned from you. Anyway, what do you think about sharing some more tricks of the trade to have simple skills to make our studios more efficient.
Man whatever people say, this device has nothing to do with the old stuff. This is built different, not everything is perfect in there but this specific Antelope Device is almost rock solid.
Are their ASIO drivers still dog shart?
6:43 AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! GLEN!!!!! If you do this, we need to have a chat about it, because this is what I'm going to do once I get a proper studio space sorted. As a visually impaired producer, mixing consoles have been the bane of my existence due to being way too convoluted for me. I mainly produce electronic music anyways so I won't need a live room (just space to record synths, vocals, a guitar and maybe some horns when needed), so I will be using an interface hooked up to one or two preamps to not only record sounds, but to act as a digital patch bay. That would make things 100x easier for me!
Ok,ok, I hear some of you that RME is amazing, yet if this unit sounds as good. is more flexible, and is more cost effective, it deserves to be seriously considered. This is a new age of common sense and intelligence, which is why $ 15 million dollar commercial studios and $ 5000 outboard pieces are outpaced, with those studios closing. It's not that the expensive stuff was not amazing, it was not practical once companies like Mackie broke the 'mystical' barriers. I have some legendary gear in mint condition and paid pennies in comparison, like the interfaces I do have. No one said they were going to 'destroy' RME and that's pretty melodramatic as well as inaccurate. There is no reason you cannot keep your current rigs and augment it with a simpler, more practical rig. I do not agree with anyone because when it's my money I am spending, I do not have to, and the final choices are mine. I also do not have some kind of weird connection with inanimate objects, I just like what I like. I easily used to head to Steve Dee's house to get some knowledge of how he works with his Akai ,and then easily go back home to my Roland. I will use Mac/Pc, and even Amiga/Atari, as long as it's fun and manageable for me. Bottom line, I will probably have a look at this as soon as I get a digital board/computer workstation that integrates well together.
I can see how you’re excited about it. This routing technology has been around for a quite a while five or six years I’ve been using it with.MOTU you should also be able to send and return from external gear
I am happy for you, Glenn! Nice to have. :) Can you do a show about tying in analog gear in an audio interface ? I am toying with the idea to get a mic preamp/compressor 19" thing. What outs do I need in my interface and so on.
32 tracks buh.... what's wrong with 48 tracks using 2 motu 24IO from 30 years ago and I use adat lightpipe with rme as well. The grass just is not greener with new stuff. Tell me how I'm wrong.
Soundtools makes and alternative to the Ward Beck XLR/Cat5 boxes that will work! DCsoundops has a few videos on them. I have 2 as well and they work great. This is a great idea Glenn! I did not know there was a DB25 to dual Cat5 option. I have the Galaxy 64 and I soldered my own DB25 cables to XLR & 1/4 inch for my desk and it still ran me about 700 dollars. I'm going to do this as a back up incase one of my cables dies, this wouldn't take nearly as much time to setup as soldering a new cable!
Be aware of wiring protocols. SoundTools uses T568A in their CAT box 4. SESCOM makes the T568B version, that I think is the one used by Catherine North Electronics DB25 converters.
@@brunoztube If you call or Email soundtools they will set the pinouts outs up in any way you want so he could get a few more of the 4 female XLR to cat5 options prewired to whatever options Glenn wants.
Hey @@joesalyers! I imagine they would do so, being who they are. In fact I sent them an email on the general contact form so they can contact Glenn. Let’s see how it turns out.
Quite a clever way to resolve some problems and even for live shows companies like the one I work, it’s useful for quickly solve unexpected situations sometimes.
I've had a pretty good experience with the Soundtools stuff I have the 12 XLR to CAT rack model and its setup for AES3 protocol its really handy to have for live shows on large stages. You can have some inputs on one side of the stage without a giant copper snake cable to trip over. I use ours for drum mics live. I can mic up the drums with short XLR cables then pass them to the rack outputs next to the console all with not added latency of a digital snake. It makes keeping drums in phase alignment a lot easier. I think the 12xCAT boxes were about $225 each when I bought them.
That “slow tools” thing absolutely destroyed me hahahahhahahhahahahaha
I have an RME UFX III and love the conversion - but man oh man, I for some reason was a f*cking dumbass and didnt even bother to notice that it only has 8 analog outputs...now im looking at converters. I love the sound of antelope conveters and if I could just go back in time (I have amassed a lot more analog gear since then) I would probably have given antelope a whirl
This question doesn’t pertain to this cool video, that I learned a lot from thank you! That DB25 hack is awesome! Been trying & waiting to buy used mogami gold DB25 cables on eBay for years!
Will that Neve Genesis board let you keep everything digital once recorded, with the faders able to be control the faders virtually in ProTools? That way audio-only comes into the board from the recording side and you have full recall when mixing? This is how I would want to work 32-in when tracking and 16-out audio channels of analog for outboard gear during the mixing process. Great video! Your channel has come so far, I love it thank you!
Glenn’s spilling all the tricks of the trade
Hey Glenn, networking guy here, just curious why cat5e instead of cat6 or cat7 cables, im assuming the price to performance difference as all 3 are rated for gigabit at different lengths( in simple terms, copper is copper and cat5e is cheaper) and you dont get anything form the added thickness of the cat 6 or 7 conductors, keep on giving great advice
It’s analog, not digital. Bandwidth is irrelevant
Hey Glenn I just received a couple of those splitters from Thomann you were mentioning in the video, they're marked as compatible with EAS/EBU as well as DMX and analog on the chassis.. Why do you say they're not fully compliant? Also, aren't you running all analog signals? Why are you concerned with AES?
Great video BTW!
Pinouts don’t match.
Very cool, I guess. I'm just not totally sure why you need this? Is it to replace audio snakes for your recording room? Is it an analogue to digital convertor?
