I hope you've also watched more recent videos. Nowadays I have better sound proofing and more professjonal equipment. Glad you enjoyed the background noise.
Thank you for your clear, easy to follow explanation. Previously I looked everywhere and found everything except the first step (project, new print layout) so did not get very far.
Great video, I am new to using GIS software for design (need it for contouring a project) and tried printing a map on scale 1:200 I will use your instructions to make a better map and see what happends and If its on correct scale when I plotter it. I design projects by hand so this is super helpfull
Muy bueno. Trabaje en topografía, todo el Sur, en la Tierra del Fuego (Argentina - Chile), como en la Región de Magallanes, Chile, en prospección sismica. Saludos.
You need to use a combination of WebODM (th-cam.com/video/c38DUn7kKYk/w-d-xo.html) and the QGIS Raster Surface Volume Tool (th-cam.com/video/sOj_IT8A4Bw/w-d-xo.html).
The easiest way to add OpenStreetMap to your project: go to the Browser panel. Expand XYZ Layers and drag the OpenStreetMap layer there to the map canvas.
Hi, whenever I export the map as png. The labels & data points become very small almost unreadable. I've to reduce pixel density from 300 to 150 to get readable labels and data points. At at 150 pixel density the image is very bad in quality. Any way to fix this? Biggers labels and data points (as shown on my map screen during development) & good quality map.
I guess you're referring to the OpenStreetMap background map. It is much better to use vector tiles, so you can control label size and styling. Check the MapTiler plugin.
Great video! just one thing, when i applied the overview and zoom out, i can´t see the frame of my location, is there any way to make it bigger? thanks!!
@@HansvanderKwast Of course, sorry about that and thanks for responding! I was wondering if there is any way to make the overview frame a bit bigger, cuz when i apply it to my map and zoom out, i cannot appreciate it in the map. I need to zoom in to be able to see it. Hope i explained well and thanks so much again!!
Hi Hans, based on your advice, I'm using the Atlas for a cartographic project. However, I am working with a big Atlas with more than 400 features, each of them with 6 overview-wms per page. When I try to print the Atlas in pdf, it takes too long (more than 3h!). As far as you know, is there a way to print only a part of the Atlas (e.g. only 10pp at a time or printing some pages by an expression)? thank you!
@@Moniroth1000 By default it should take the CRS of your project from the Map Canvas. It's that unless you overruled it in the Print Layout Grid dialogue.
You are such a good teacher. It can not be explained any better than this. Very simple and straight forward. Thank you
Thank you so much, it is so rare to have videos so well explained on QGIS !
I love how there is a literal construction site in the background audio....
nothing like learning a new task to some grinding and cutting sounds

Thank you! I have been struggling with QGIS, but this video was very helpful and I now have a beautiful map. Greatly appreciate your work.
Hoi Hans, bedankt voor de instructie.. ik had de eerste 3 minuten nodig en kon daarna precies doen wat ik wilde doen. Dank!
not all heroes wear capes, thank you sir
Just what I was looking for, Hans. Thanks a lot!
An amazing video, normally i dont like or comment but you helped me a ton for my studies. Thank you man!
Thanks man, you really made it easy for me and you saved my butt from the professor's wrath tomorrow!
Hans, very useful video. In the PrintLayout I didn't use the Overviews function (in italian "Panoramiche"). thanks a lot for letting me discover it!
Thank you for your clear, easy to follow explanation. Previously I looked everywhere and found everything except the first step (project, new print layout) so did not get very far.
Good video. I just starting using QGIS
very nice and thorough explanation. Amazing use of tools.
Thank you SO MUCH! You are so easy to understand! :)
Wow.... simple and fluid. I can't wait to use it, thanks!

Many thanks for such clear explanation. Much appreciated.

How do you access and edit a previously existing print layout?
Thank you. Quite illustrative and helpful!
Can you please show how to calculate volume using csv file or dxf?
Thank you very much!

Is it possible to add a map in 3D view to the Print Layout?
In current vesions of QGIS there's an icon in the toolbar on the left side of the screen to add a 3D map.
Newbie question: how did you get the openstreetmap layer?

There is no an "update preview" button for me... please help me out
In newer versions it automatically updates or you can click the refresh button in the upper toolbar.

@@jsaezf1757 Yes, you can change the size like any map frame and use the same ways to change the scale of the map in the frame.
It's a really good video. Thank you.

I'm not so familiar with the atlas function. Maybe you can post your question on gis.stackexchange.com or twitter.

I accidently exited the "item properties" how do I reinstall it?
In the menu choose: View | Panels | Item properties
thank you for sharing the very useful video
Why I don't see any grid line appears as I follow you ?
Did you change the x and y intervals to a proportion that makes sense for your map? Also check if the projection is correct.

where i get OSM Standart?
The OSM Standard used in the videos can be loaded into QGIS using the QuickMapServices plugin.
