    Retired Naval Aviator here. I've never heard the term "air finisher." It's ARRESTING GEAR.

    I served in thebS Navy for 22 years, all of it in Naval Aviation. THE THING THE TAIL HOOK SNAGGED IS CALLED ARRESTING GEAR !

      YES, I went through AOCS right after college in 1967 and we had all Marine DI's for our military instructions outside of the classrooms.
      Gave me a true appreciation of the Jarheads, um, excuse me, Marines.The Navy shut down the AOCS at NAS Pensaola many years ago and transferred all incoming ensigns to US Navy officer commissioning program based at Newport, RI. A real loss in my opinion!

    You don't wait to see if you bolter, or if the the cable or hook break to power up. The moment you hit the deck you go full throttle so if you bolter (miss all cables) or have a malfunction of the arresting gear or aircraft hook you can take off after your quick touch and go.

      We were taught to "fly" into the wire. When the power is reduced to a jet engine, it slows the RPM. Even if the pilot goes to full power when he realizes the he either has a Hook skip, a few seconds of delay it takes the engine to return to full power can make the difference between surviving a trap to this being your last trap. Of course, when I was involved it was in the dark ages of Essex class carriers such as Hancock. The idea that you could go to full power when your wheels touched down would compare to playing Russian roulette. You have already lost the game if you get a skip or broken cable. Broken cables always inflict a lot of injury to deck personel as well as the loss of a flight crew and aircraft.

      @@MichaelRagland-yg1rc I am an enthusiast of naval aviation so its great to hear from an actual aviator. What did you fly? F8, A4? One key thing to note is when using the F-18 as an example it has very high slow state energy bleed at high alpha, so the pilot flies the throttle a lot to keep around 150 KIS and needing around 30% power to keep that speed at the desired descent rate, thus the engines are quite a bit above flight idle and will spool up quickly once the throttles are advanced to full. I don't know where 2nd and 3rd generation jets performance lies by comparison to the F-18 on approach but imagine the engines spool times were significantly longer if for no other reason than the generation gap and advancement in engine design.

    WTF is an airofinisher??? It is called an arresting engine. This holds the purchase cable that is attached to the cross-deck pendant via the terminal and pin. The cross-deck pendants are replaced after 125 traps and it takes 2-3 minutes to replace one.

    It's not an "air finisher" you dumbbell it's an arrestor cable.

    Get the terminology right for a start! As the plane hits the deck the pilot goes to full power and keeps it at that setting until stopped.

    I did this on land, at Ubon Thailand in 1967 as Barrier crew, short runway and we had 5 different barriers on this base. Caught mostly F4's .

  • @jerrylohla5356
    @jerrylohla5356 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Today, it's a "barricade," not "barrier." WWII aircraft carriers used 4 foot high "barriers."

    The BADLY written script was generated by an AI bot using outdated source material. The arresting system on the Ford had problems. They fixed it. It works fine. The error filled script is voiced by an equally inept AI Bot. That accounts for the mispronounced words. 👎👎on this channel again!

    • @jaycooper2812

      There is no F-22 Raptor in this video. There are however F-35c Lightning 2 which is the naval version of the F-35 series that does land on aircraft carriers. In fact the Ford class carriers are specifically designed for the F-35 where the Nimitz class required specific upgrades to be able to operate the F-35.
