Shark lock, absolutely agree, dude! I've had my AD20.5 for maybe a month now and I've had nothing else in my pocket since then. I spend a couple hours a day fiddling with it, minimum. I just got a Spyderco Amalgam a few weeks ago and I think it's at the top of my fidget knives list right now, even above the Shaman.
Moving my finger out of the way for the flipper tab when it's closing isn't any different than doing it for nub on the Shaman; the timing is about the same, maybe slightly sooner for the Amalgam. And I've found that by flipping it with the side of my index finger near the joint instead of with the tip, I don't run into the issue with scraping up against the corner of the compression lock. It also opens a lot more reliably, because I can use more force that way.

Great knives for fidgeting!! In addition to the Smock that I have I would like to add a couple other options: the CRKT BT Fighter, and the SOG Pentagon. The BT fighter (Brian Tighe designed) is ridiculously fun to operate and really affordable. The pentagon is pricier but still a lot of fun with decent build quality and action. A couple other suggestions: Kizer Catshark and Artisan Small Archaeo. Both double detent flippers and crazy figitable, especially the Catshark since it's also an awesome little spydie flicker. And speaking of great spydie flickers, both the GiantMouse ACE Riv and the Kansept Goblin spydie flick as good as any Spyderco, IMHO (and I love my compression locks). And last but not least, the SOG XR locks are loads of fun with the Kiku XR LTE being perhaps my favorite fidget friendly knife. Oh yeah... and did I mention Kizer Catshark?

Most fidgety knife I own is the Mini RSK. I have 4 Benchmade (Triage, Osborne, Mini Grip, Grizzly Ridge), 2 Hogue (Deka, Mini RSK), and 2 SOG (D2 and S35VN Terminus XR) Axis-style knives and my god there is nothing like it. It's unbelievably smooth to open and close. The only knife that gets close is the Grizzly Ridge, and it's noticeably heavier and slower to flick.
Edit: I had the Triage in a First-Aid bag and took it out for a spin. Holy crap I forgot how GOOD this thing feels. Big, solid, smooth. Heavy but not bulky. Oh man, you can even fidget with the seatbelt cutter!

First I'd like to start with saying how much I enjoy your content Metal Complex. Now that I have that out of the way I would like to discuss a comment you made about the 940 being the most fidgit friendly axis style knife. It may have been a while since you handled the Benchmade Anthem but as far as I'm concerned the Anthem has to be the MOST FIDGET FRIENDLY axis style knife in existence. Please do a review on the Anthem if you haven't already. And if you have, do another one. Thanks for all you do for the knife community!

  • @JungYT

I think the AD20.5 is great for fidgeting and the secret is the spring-loaded blade that gets sucked into the handle (or your fingers😳) when you release the shark lock. You get a semiautomatic open and close that is so satisfying. To get that action, you have to time the time the lock is pulled to get the most spring.

This vid is for me! I’m a fidgeter. The performance of the knife definitely wouldn’t matter as much to me, as slicing tape on a package would be possible using a toenail 😅
