I have two large crepe myrtles in my back yard that I have been pruning and shaping using bonsai inspired techniques and it has been working so well that I have decided to try and take cuttings grow in pots as true bonsai. These videos have been very enlightening thank you

Nice to see your work on deciduous trees. Recently I repurchased a bunch of young blackthorn trees which were intended for use as hedging. Although not much more than saplings, I have used them to start a forrest planting.

Do you happen to know the variety of crape myrtle this is? I appreciate that you're sharing this specimen's continued development!

I have a few crape myrtles as well...I recommend trying spirea. I have Reeve's spirea and Goldflame spirea that are really beautiful and great at backbudding...thanks for the video!

Awesome video. I would really love it if you can do a video on Gardenias. There is so little about them out. I have a Gardenia and would love to see and hear your thoughts on them.

Nice crepe myrtle! I have one too. Been working it for about two years and since they grow so strongly in summer, I’ve been able to establish a very nice structure already. It gave me one bloom last year. I was appreciative. I also have a pyracantha that I salvaged from the yard. It probably sprouted from bird droppings. If you have one and do a video on it, I’d be grateful.

You need a turntable. It would make your demo smoother but less scratchy. :)
    Thanks for the video btw.

Thanks for the video! Do you have any cotoneaster? I have 2 but have no idea what to do with them, they are about 3 years old and grow so fast

I'm interested in trees native to my region in Eastern US/mid-Atlantic. Some of them may not be traditional for bonsai, I realize, but I feel like those people who developed the art were starting with what they found in nature near them. Also. I wonder if it could be good to work with some of the species that are at greater risk to pests or disease to help preserve or restore them, like Elm, Chestnut, and Ash.

Is there an added benefit to cutting the plastic pot back. I picked mine up recently and am wondering if I need to cut back the 7gal pot to the main trunk/soil line while in recovery? Or do it after I get my first recovery growth?
