I'd say one of the themes in that people are a lot more complex than we see them initially. Vijaylakshmi is very outgoing and wild, but she is also a caring and loving mother, and a great friend. Roxette/Rukhsar has the job that she does, but she is financially supporting both her sisters. Taka seems so jolly but has this trauma he is dealing with. They all got humanised in some way. Vijay always thought of Rani as a docile wife who would do as he wanted. He didn't like when she would do things that didn't fit the image he had of her, such as dancing in public, and wanting to work. She even used to gamble, which was why she did well at the casino. Rani was always more complex than the way others saw her, and maybe even more than she saw in herself (because people like Vijay always told her otherwise). It just took stepping outside her comfort zone for these parts of her to come out. He became threatened by the idea that Rani could be better off without him, and that's when he came running back. But you know if they had gotten back together that he would try to suppress her personality again, and then blame her for being boring.
I love how non-judgmental was the film towards people who were different. Neither Rani was judged for being conservative nor Roxette or Vijaylaxmi were judged for their choices.

Initially when they met, its braided (locked), then its curly ( as in things aren't going straight) when the wedding is called off her hair is messy and tangled. As her journey continues, it is more free flowing. In the end it's straight and and left untied.As in no one can cage her anymore. ❤i loved that idea.
Kangana's performances have always raised the bar so high for the industry,even her debut in gangster was path-breaking. She is one hell of a performer who always deliver no matter what with currently 4 national awards. You should explore more of her. She is exceptional

this movie remains special for me because it was released at a time i was living away from home (for college) for the very first time and went through my first break up w an emotionally abusive bf (way more than Vijay), and my dad saw this movie, called me, and told me to watch it too.
