    As a woman, I don't find Rip misogynistic. In fact, the opposite. He trains us women folk without the bullshit lies the rest of the industry is so fond of. I'm 100% sure I can walk into his gym and not one of his coaches is gonna assume I want to "tone".

      I agree with you too. As a woman, I believe that he is as respectful of women and men.you can see that in their training videos and I really appreciate this! I wish that they had a gym in Vancouver Canada!!

      Exactly. The best feminists in my mind are those that want to equalise the whole men-women imbalance by bringing women up rather than bringing men down. Because the feminists that like to bring the men down are essentially saying that they can't bring themselves "up" in a sense. For example the gym!

    Great advice , about finding the minimum dose!! I started powerlifting using the starting strength program at 55 years of age. The program worked great, I had never did a squat or deadlift training prior to the starting strength program. After two years of competitive USA powerlifting I hit a point of recurring back, knee and shoulder tweaks. I am now lifting to maintain strength at age 59. I had to cut back on volume and weight, I never plan to give up lifting. I had c5 and c6 discs replaced one year before I began starting strength. I am 5'9 180 pounds.

      @@jimmyjohnson6704 No you idiot, you are assuming that I'm implying Rip has looks or big marketing. Rip is a strength coach. He objectively focuses on the development of strength through training principals and biomechanics. If he chooses to diet bad, drink, or not care about high carb intake or refined sugars, that's his deal. The fact is the man has the VALUABLE ability to throughly go about biomechanics and strength training principals. All that aside, I completely wouldn't ask or advice people on Rip's knowledge on nutrition or bodybuilding methods. Although, bodybuilders and ballistic performing athletes can significantly benefit from his strength coaching or knowledge. The point is that many have specialities on a particular matter and Rip as well as OTHERS that ARE NOT as marketed like a Mike chang or a Jeff Cavaliere have their specialities' as objective and accurate as possible.

    49:00 the pain is bilateral whereas the bloodflow restriction was done on one elbow. It was also about 3 months before I starting getting any finger pain. In the 3 weeks since I asked this question, I switched to a pronated grip on rows and pull ups, only use straps on deadlifts and the pain has cleared completely. I plan to reintroduce chin ups soon.

    Regarding Corona:
    Sweden only had no containment in the first month or so, then they introduced social distancing measures because infections spiked. Also Swedes are much "colder" than Spains. They don't hug that much, they don't do the kiss greeting, they didn't meet up that much because it was still colder (when there was no social distancing) and in general they are more rational thus were aware of the dangers by themselves. This is also why there was no distancing at first, they were trusted not to hug even person that meet.
    Also Spain "started" with much higher infections so they had to take drastic measures immediately.

    "back surgery in general..." that is a whole lot of very different things.
    A herniated disk is not the same as the many things he mentioned , and "success" rates very a lot among the different procedures, meaning the results among different procedures would be more useful if he didn't lump them ALL up together under "back surgery in general"... beaches the variations among them really are so damn different.
    It was this very lumping together that made me wait so damn long for mine, but a month after I was back at the gym, having spent a whole year prior BECAUSE OF THESE GENRAL STATISTICS, NOT BEING ABLE TO WALK OR even take a shit by myself, with pain day and night. It was actually unbelievable and amazing to me when I woke up after surgery, which only lasted 62 minutes, and the doctor told me to try to get up and walk, but the very first thing I noticed was the ABSENCE of pain, I couldn't care less AT THAT moment if I walked or not ever again, just having taken the pain away was enough; but walk I did, and cried and was happy and did my first few small slooooowwww steps in that room... and a month later, with lots of fear and reticence, I stepped back in the gym. I now can squat 455 pounds and deadlift 500, way more than before the back issues... all these extra years of health are just amazing.

    Thank you for your time addressing fans questions. You have said on several occasions that it isn't lifting weights that makes you strong but the recovery from lifting weights that does. Lifting weights causes micro tears. These micro tears in the sarcomeres are what then needs to heal in order for muscle growth resulting in a greater cross section of these muscle fibers. Larger muscle fibers means strength increases and hypertrophy.
    With that in mind would further muscle contraction resulting in slightly greater muscle tears be beneficial for causing more hypertrophy and wouldn't flexing after training cause this? I haven't read anything in practical programming so far that addresses this and don't recall it being in the starting strength book.
    What are your thoughts on this?
    Thanks and cheers!

    If a vender sold nothing but seeds, it'd be considered not-essential. Among venders considered essential, seeds were often in sections w/items that required extensive staff interaction w/customers. Those sections were blocked off. When the seeds were moved to an open section, they _were_ sold.. There's nothing in the order specifying sales of the seeds themselves.

    • @neogohanamv
      @neogohanamv 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. I guess I'm now officially a hater for pointing it out, but there's more to it than a single Forbes headline. Seed sales weren't banned -- you could buy them in many stores, and even 'big box' chains could sell them online and allow you to pick-up locally. You could get them on Amazon or eBay or from a smaller local garden store.
      There must not be a lot of hatin' going around if my stupid comment made the cut. Heck, it was even half praise, though that part was conveniently excluded from this. Ah well.

At this point in the TFLP I am wearing sweatpants every day while alternating wife beaters and sleeveless flannels. I feel I am close to stalling, however. I want Rips thoughts on TRT and how young a guy can be to be on it?

    • @Jmack7861
      @Jmack7861 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      He says all the time if you need it then get it. Age isn’t relevant testosterone levels are. If you’re 18 and have test levels of 50ng/dl then you’re warranted to have TRT (assuming you don’t have an underlying issue at that age such as testicular cancer). Just get tour test levels done and if you need it get it. It isn’t like steroids, and it isn’t even like a weak anabolic like sarms. 150mg of test a week isn’t anything like 500mg/week.

    • @suntzu7727
      @suntzu7727 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Jmack7861 I think that's clear for us younger guys, but I don't know if it is for older people. After 40-45 your test levels will unavoidably drop. Perhaps they'll be considered normal for your age, but they'll definitely be significantly lower than when you were younger and you'll obviously not be able to lift as you did because of that among other age related issues.
      Do you "need" it even if your levels are normal for your age? Who can tell? It's not clear if you do and by what extent. It definitely has benefits if you take a dosage enough to return your levels to what they were when you were younger, you'll be able to retain gains and exercise intensity. Should you? Some people in the fitness industry believe that anyone after a certain age should be on TRT for such reasons. For those of us who are in our 20s of course, the situation is more clear. If your testosterone levels are subnormal for your age, you need treatment. But that's not the only case and as I said there's an interesting discussion to be had about TRT in older people. I would like to see Rip's take on it.

    • @samwest4538
      @samwest4538 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man... TRT for somebody 40 or younger is about the second to last option. 1st option is just to sleep ~8hrs per night on a regular schedule and that alone solves half the problem.

    While watching this I got the urge to actually go and search a video of Usain Bolt in slow motion and, look at that! During a stride both the knee and the hip joint actually get to an angle similar to a below parallel squat! Not that this matters, Rip is right about training not being practice, but the current “training “ wisdom is actually objectively incorrect, even if they were theoretically correct.

  • @DerekFrohlich

    Mr. Rip
    My wife and I are having an argument about whether a person could squat more on Mars. A quick google search shows that Mars has 38% of the gravity of earth. She states that the force exerted to the ground is less - therefore the exertion off (the lift) is less. This in my mind is the ramblings of early onset spinsterism. 10 pounds of feather vs 10 pounds of bricks are the same equal 10 pounds - but the unit of measurement was developed here on earth (not her home planet) thoughts?

    • @cfeuchtj

    In the previous podcast (actually in the comment section where the bottom 3% hang out: I feel dirty already), someone or other was complaining about Rip always appearing in the same shirt, probably the only one he fits into these days. It wasn't me, because I'm not a hater, but I fear the nasty comments are getting into Rip's psyche somehow. What do you guys and gals think? Do you think he'll go on a ... diet soon? You can only be called a fat pink pig so many times before looking in the mirror at night and saying, "Are you talking to me? Are you talking to me?" and swinging around some iron. Am I needlessly worried? I guess so. Rip won't break.
    Nice shirt! This really brightens up the screen and my day. They say clothes make the man and this man on the screen is happy as a kite and he don't give a damn about the new batch of comments from the bottom 3% that undoubtedly say he now looks like a fat pink pimp (try saying that a hundred times in rapid succession; your tongue will have muscle soreness for days and not because you tried to please a hard-to-please lady).

    I have no problem with people thinking the coronavirus is a hoax and dont wear masks. Please continue not wearing masks. Too much traffic anyways. Im looking forward to cutting 15 minutes off my commute.

      The mask is to reduce the area that droplets travel when sneezing or coughing as well as reduce the area of aerosol intake when you’re breathing in. That’s why you want to social distance. And it’s real, trust me I’m a nurse in the army, our ICU is full of people intimated to the point where our medsurg floor became an ICU overflow floor, and alllllll the basic training units are having outbreaks. Yeah you probably won’t die if you’re young but after talking to the young men that have it, it sounds miserable. Worse than the flu x10, I’ve been told by multiple people they’re shitting blood from all the diarrhea and almost everyone that is symptomatic and comes in is coughing up blood, it’s shitty. And just because people aren’t dying at a higher rate it doesn’t mean they wouldnt if they didn’t get medical care and put on a ventilator.

      Instead of getting your information form news stations and Facebook you should probably read some research studies or go visit a hospital. Learn from experience and people with experience, if you base anything you believe on what cnn or fox says then you are a simple minded sheep that’s part of the problem
