  • Drainage machine in action.
We needed to do some drainage works in one of the fields that was a bit saturated over winter. This 1982 machine made a lovely job and we managed to grab a bit of video of it in action during a couple of runs across the field.

For those not familiar with drainage machines they cut through the soil and lay the pipe into a trench. It’s quite an art to get it right and they work off a laser level to ensure there’s a fall created by the machine for the pipework to lay on, so that the water disperses at the drain at the end. More modern machines have GPS and more tech but the principle is the same. Nice to see this piece of kit in action.

About JB Farming: I'm a farmer originally from Yorkshire now farming in Lincolnshire, Great Britain. I live and work on an all-arable farm growing combinable crops (wheat, oil seed rape, beans, oats and we've tried a bit of soya in this last year). I'm here farming with help and support from my partner Jen, along with our two dogs. We started the channel for me to learn about technology (as I'm a long way behind on that!!), for Jen to work on her edit skills and to talk/share the thing I love most - farming. The industry has a tough time in the UK and we face a lot of challenges people don't even realise, but it's a way of life and one I would never change. Plus Jen wanted to document a bit of what we do, she does the edits... we hope you enjoy them!
