I am 54 and came back after 38 years, everyone thinks I am nuts, but even with my bruises and scrapes, I haven't been this happy in a long time. Starting ramp riding this week.
Hi Jon, 57 years old...I "restarted" ramp and bowl riding one year ago after a first restart of 2 years at 35. Your progresses really give me strength to carry on😀...although I am still far from your level (I passed the droppin level from a 6 foot ramp with 2 inches of vert...but I am stuck at the rock to fakie...rahhhh😡😡😠 eventhough I can fakie without a problem). Regarding the Santa Cruz reissus, like I wrote im a previous post, the designs are absolutely marvelous (shapes and grpahics). But they are manufactured in China. And on the two models I got (Winkowsky's and Clauss Grabke explosing clock), there for the first a default of tint on the upper deck and for the second, a lot of areas - 3 inches long and 1/6 wide non tinted (bought on internet). It wouldn t be important if these were not models for my collection (I am a great fans of all these end 70 to early 90's design - they are like pop art for me). Compared to boards designed and produced im California or Mexico (like for instance Powell Peralta, Vision, Schmitt Stix) how is the quality and durability of the wood? Last questions:what about Santa Cruz wheels? Also produced in China? How do they work, respextively on metal ramp, wood ramp, skatelite ramp, ,and concrete? Many thanks again for you great videos. Renn from Switzerland
Yeah, the Santa Cruz snake is holding up well considering the abuse. Time will tell on the Winkowski, but it seems exactly the same quality? I’m riding spitfire wheels, but I’ve had Slimeballs in the past and they are ace! All round thumbs up from me?!
Man that is a sick set up! Switching set ups helps to keep me skating at 45. Even if they're not worn out. Each time i set up a new board it's like the 1st time so I'm glad to see others keeping fresh rad set ups in their quiver. Thanks and keep shredding!
I’m on my 3rd Winkowski! I bought (2) DopePlanet decks I loved it so much I got one to skate and one to hang in my collection of greats and re-issues. I just purchased his new Santa Cruz graphic called sketch pad/art deck. I can’t get enough of this set-up with orange Winkowski Slimeballs on Indy Hollow 159’s.#SantaCruz❤#🛹🔥🤘🏻
been riding the winkowski shape since 2020. Great shape n feel, tried Popsicles and other shapes but always come back to the winkowski. hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Fun fact the shape of this board is a mix of the Kendall shape you have and Monty Nolders Shmitt Stix "tiki" deck. It's the Kendall tail, and the Tiki nose. Also, I love Jessup grip. Killer video!
One factor that I notice about the current popularity of the re issues; is that they are perfect for the Waterborne high performance surfskate conversion kit. I'm interested not only in this deck, but also the"End of the World" deck.
Amazing Jon , I have been using the C5 truck in any kind of bowls and transitions for over 3 years now …and it’s the best surfing feeling when you try all the old school tricks ( which are surfing maneuvers..505/50’s / floaters , slash grinds / top turns , disasters / off the lips /fins out …etc etc ) … I was totally sure I wasn’t able to ride them in a deck over 9” . Now I know it is possible . Thanks !
Nice one Jon. Been riding the Winkowski aquatic night deck for a while now and love it. This looks to have a slightly bigger nose than mine but the concave is the same. Happy shredding brother.
I also have the Night Aquatic deck and I can’t fault it. I bought the Winkowski Bird Cage as well and it has a slightly longer tail which took some time to get used to. Hanging out for a issue 1 Dope Planet
Yeah dude, me too, but this one works ok, I managed to get my meagre bag of nose stuff no problem, whereas a nose stall on the snake turned into a major project 😂
Really glad I found this video only a few days after its release, I've been curious to hear someone describe the concave on this deck before I commit to a purchase.
Looking forward to get this board. I'm using Jeff Kendall snake deck now. Thanks for your video and knowing the two decks almost similar. Greetings from Indonesia
Absolutely love that circular cut out idea on the grip! (Boring concept possibly) but have you done a video talking through your board collection? Would love to see it.
Hi Jon, I just ordered this deck because you have me really curious about the Cruise Missile 2 concave. This also has a wide nose (my favorite thing about my current Andy Anderson Heron 9.13) I don't see you ripping this one- because of length? I want to do a short unboxing vid- could I have permission to mention your video? I'm not monetized, btw. Just an old bloke learning how to skate!
Awesome video and review I just picked up a mike vallely street plant manmouth deck for 35 bucks from now till Xmas most boards are on sale jtlu all know.
Great review, thanks a lot! Now that I’ve watched this, I can’t wait to getting hands on one. I want to set it up with the slide surfskate trucks though, was wondering whether I’ll have issues because the deck has no wheel wells.
Great review, Jon! Had the chance to ride a Winkowski 2 weeks ago and I was as much impressed as surprised: I always was afraid of the huge width of it and expected it to feel quite sluggish (I usually ride 9" - 9.5" wide decks). What a surprise, it felt quite the opposite. Sturdy but very reactive, almost small. Lucky me, I just got one with the dope planet 1 graphics (just like yours), I really like more than the upcoming ones ('crystal cave' and 'volcano'). Can't wait to ride my lokal park here in Dortmund (Germany) with it. Seems to be killer for riding bowls and concrete parks.
i'm riding the new Winkowski Spaced Out board! so good! I'm a weirdo though and I like 151 trucks on mine even though the widest part of the board goes to 10.5 lol
Are the hollow 159 you are using mids? Is that why you have risers? Also are you using stock bushings? Have the same build for starting bowl riding and I don't want to get wheel bite haha
Hey dude These are just standard Indie hollow forged. I use Bones Hardcore Medium bushings. The 1/8 riser allows them to be fairly loose without the bite !
Nice review and an enviable bag of tricks. I've been riding the Winkowski aquatic night deck until recently. Same shape I think. I feel it might have been a bit big for my slight 5ft 9in frame and I'm feeling more comfy on a Dog Town M80 at only 8.8in wide. 🤙💥
Nice review mate, keep it up! I am really glad that there are another taller riders out there. I am also 6.3, and I was wondering how this deck felt, because it’s kinda short? Should i give it a chance? Thank you man! Cheers

I have a Winkowsky birdcage (same shape as your deck) and Salba tiger. The tiger feels heavier and … „cheaper” I mean the wood itself. Wonder if you have the same impresion?
