Since coming across your excellent channel I have been overdosing on your tutorials. I am almost finished converting my attic to accommodate what will be a 25ft by 12ft railway layout and will be using the many techniques that you have demonstrated for creating scenery. Sometime early in the New Year I will be ordering one of your 1000ml bundles of 2mm, 4mm and 6mm static grass to add to my existing stock of scenic materials. Your videos are fantastic and although not into war gaming I am addicted to watching every one of your scenic tutorials which have really inspired me to try replicating something similar.
Just did my first resin pour for an ocean/beach as part of a larger gaming board and it turned out great, all thanks to your video. Your explanations and demonstrations made my first time efforts so much easier. Thank you so much.
Brilliant mate , didn't know you could add paint to the resin so that's helped me out for the future and again thanks for helping me out with my lake back in October your advice saved my board
Thanks for all the work you do to share your knowledge of the craft! The production and editing take so much time and energy, so, again, thanks. I’d like to support through Patreon if and when that’s an option.
I'm sure that Footsore Miniatures will be showing this off to great effect in the promotional material for their "Mortal Gods" game. I'm looking forward to seeing this.
A delta is where a river splits into several shallow streams and broadens out into a triangle because it has deposited so much sediment over the years. Normally it is just called the mouth of the river.
This is great for the more shoreline ocean/sea work, however, for an actual ocean board there are far better options. If you want a full ocean board such as for naval battles or similar things where the entire board is water (or mainly water such as for a pulp/scifi oil rig type one) start with sheets of clear acrylic the size of your board. Use paints on the underside of it to create the coloration you want for it before placing it ontop of a dark or light (depends upon the look you want, for the carribean type clear water, use a white paint on the board that's side up, if you want the dark and choppy look then a dark grey or even black works better under the other paint). Then on top of the acryllic, give it a heavy layer of stippled, clear mod podge. Then a layer of polyeurethane gloss works well to add a bit more wet glisten while also making sure it's sealed down to stand up to use before giving a light drybrush of a almost white light blue and then a white one to highlight the drybrush (use a glossy paint for both). It's a relatively quick way to create ocean boards that look great and are easy to play with and if you add a frame around the base board and the acrylic sheet, then you get a very sturdy piece that can be carried around and if you're careful with doing it, the board can also be stored on the wall and actually look like a piece of art...
@@GeekGamingScenics That's where you go to the more coastal or shoreline things like what you're doing. If you want deeper water, it's not worth the effort to go with resin for it due to the difficulty of getting it to look right because you don't really have them to deal with.
Awesome vid I love watching resin stuff I find it super relaxing I'm weird haha but yeah cool vid. Also the mouth of a river going into a bay is usually a delta, the more you know!
Hey Luke, great video! And wonderful results as usual. But, can I add one consideration about the river-into-the-sea blend? I think you did the mixing in reverse. If you take a look to aerial images you will see the dirt from rivers expanding right in front of the river estuary and that should have been the case here according to the ochre terrain color. Not trying to be an asshole but I'm a hydraulic engineer so, water flow and mixing are my realm and just wanted to contribute for the sake of realism. Thank you for the massive amount of knowledge you share with us!
Excellent video but I have one question: if I haven’t watched the video, how can I know that I should watch the video first, before asking the question? Bet you didn’t see that coming? :P Nice stuff, Mr. Luke! Love the board.
I like it! I'm planning out a board for 'Blood & Plunder' and intend to do resin water. However, I'd like to be able to make the board with modular coastline and some plain water tiles; how would you keep the tops of the resin leveled off so that they line up nicely?
I've only used dollar store epoxy so far, but even that can be tinted with just a tiny fleck of paint. Just be quick about it, and maybe not for giant rivers.
The reason I’m using says to pour in 1/8 inch deep pours… They are talking about coverings wooden table or similar… I am pouring a river similar to your ocean… It will be probably 38/8”inch deep at the maximum… Do you think I can pour it all in one shot? Thanks
Good stuff, researching doing a sub pen with sub pulling away.Trying to get water effects down ,practicing on scrap wood and foam..PS what are you using for walls on resin pour and does it come off???
Really enjoying your channel luke! Great stuff man! I have just finished my first small resin beach piece using your secret wave solution 😉👌 quick question and this is vital to the modeling process.....what is that music! I love it! Lol
Great tutorial! I was thinking of trying this, but I'm a total beginner. Would it be possible to mix a lacquer-based model paint with the epoxy resin, or would this cause a negative reaction? Thanks!
Is there anything you should not poor resin over? Looking to run an Idoneth Deepkin Age of Sigmar army and looking to use water effects on each base. Was looking to add some tuffs of colour to represent coral or seaweed, will the proxy have an effect on them at all or on the PVA Glue used or on Superglue?
Great video! I'm planning to do some magic water on some terrain pieces. The idea is to use turquoise color in the resin, but also add some glitter to make look like it's glittering. Do you think that could work? Or do you have another tip on how I can make glittering water?
Hi Luke, would this product be suitable for a smaller scale project...ideally 32mm bases, looking to have my idoneth deepkin (sea elves) looking as though they are coming out of the sea?
Great tutorial again! I have a newbie question, is there a maximum layer thickness of resin that you can pour? What's the best way to build it up? Thanks!
@@GeekGamingScenics Thanks much for the reply, appreciate it. I can't seem to order this resin in the US. Are epoxy resins usually suitable for layering without showing banding?
@@GeekGamingScenics Yes, sure, just not this brand. I'm thinking of using Alumilite as High Eye Workshop uses it in his stuff. But he just switched to yours! haha
@@GeekGamingScenics it doesn't matter that much, was just wondering as the khaki part of the river looks quite shallow and was wondering if it'll disappear as the resin dries. Sorry if it's a stupid question 😊

Can I just ask when you say you are allergic to the Epoxy, is it caused by contact with your skin or does it give off fumes or vapour that you are allergic to ? I’m guessing it’s with skin contact, and that’s why you are wearing the black gloves in the vid. Or maybe your just into the black latex, I’m not judging each to their own.
Sorry just watched the video through again and you do say if you touch the Epoxy you will have a reaction. I’ve become one of those people that ask questions that are answered in the video.
great stuff! Can't wait to see part 2, the blending between the river water and the ocean water worked perfectly 😉
I don't if its the background music, but theres something very calming and relaxing about watching the resin being poured and worked

The seaweed is a great touch! I grew up on the Gulf coast of Florida, and you the water nearly the perfect colour, but the sand should be sugar white.
Its the clear green grass of Home as Troy Jones sings about!
I use water in my terrain and was really impressed with the clear resin. Have to try it.
Really impressed luke. I'm not a wargame scenery builder, but videos like this make me want to have a go :)
Would love to see some 1/72 scale Greek Triremes & some armies in Phalanx formation used in this diorama .
