The Traktor Kontrol Z1 is a mixer interface from Native Instruments, designed for both Traktor Pro 2 and Traktor DJ (the iPhone, iPad & iPod touch software). In this review, we look at it with Traktor DJ, and demo a typical set-up.

He didn't mention this but you can actually play decks from the Z1 by holding the Mode button and pressing either headphone CueA or CueB
damn bro I have been playing with this thing for months and just saw this comment!! mad props.
Im after one of these with an x1 this would then be an ideal, compact setup for djing small clubs/bars!

Awww man i really want this! I already have an X1 and an F1 but i had to modify the controls for the X-Fader and various tweaks this will mean i can run all three together i wont need an interface and i can have all the original settings. Loving the Channel by the way buddy watched everything you've done keep up the good work!
They have that in the Z2, but it's quite a lot more pricey but only currently works as a sound card with Traktor DJ. I'm going to guess they'll add more support later on though, since it seems like the Z1 is supposed to be a scaled down version of the Z2.

I have seen that the fx/filter knob only doubles up in traktor dj, if you are using traktor pro, it only controls the filter. That's what I have seen in some other reviews.
bigger woofers = lower frequency response, which has nothing to do with room size. it's usually much easier to work in a smaller room actually.
I don't know if there's a single cable that exists for this yet (weird), but you -can- definitely find Lightning to USB adapters.
NI should've add the loop recorder control on the center section
I already have a mk1 x1 which i was using with a crappy numark controller thats now broke, I'm split between just replacing it with a S2 or getting a additional z1 and f1. I could do with having inputs but its not a deal breaker.
Yea they should have made this with a Hub!!
I think you can rout traktor scratch pro through a single channel on your mixer. Use traktor on internal mixer mode.. and use the post fader effects/eq/filters/effects etc.. use the vinyl to scratch and manipulate tunes... only how good are the faders...?

So in other words, if you had to - you could use this as a controller. Without the IOS devices, you would just have to select tracks manually off your laptop etc? I think I am getting stuck with one at a gig next week :/
needs to have a 4 port usb hub and be four channels. like the behringer cmd

Is the cue mix poti controlling the Z1 hardware? So is it possible to choose the Z1 as a soundcard in Ableton Live, routing cue and master and mix them to the headphones like a real mixer does?

If you use it with a laptop, it powers itself from the usb.

I have the z1 mixer and I can't seem to change the Filter knob into an Effects knob by holding the Mode button down. Is it because I only have Traktor LE? Do you have to have Traktor Pro to change the Filter knob to an Effects one?
Can one set knobs to control other stuff in that app or other music ipad apps like tabletop or djay? Will it work controlling traktor/other softwares on a mac, with a usb adaptor?

Z1 is meant to work with Traktor Pro, but you could probably map it to VDJ if you wanted

Hey Stavros, no for the Kontrol Z1 you'll need to be running DJ software (likely Traktor Pro 2)
my headphone cue wont work ..no output ..no signal ... no sound . I am using a laptop a pair of speakers and the Z1 ..kindly help !!
Have you messed around in Preferences at all? What does your Output Routing look like?
NO didn't mess around ...output routing = mixing mode :Internal , output master : speaker L & speaker R .
everything else on the Z1 is working smooth and perfect just the headphone is the issue !!

Hi! I am a beginner dj. I have a Pioneer WeGo, which I bought to help practice basic skills and mixing. Im now looking for something that will help take my mixes to the next level. Currently just considering adding a Tracktor F1 to my WeGo so that I have greater control over effects. Could anyone suggest a good all-in-one controller / mixer + controller combo? I am a student so budget is limited, but am willing to save up if considered to be completely worth it. Any suggestions are welcomed!
Pioneer ddj sb, very good to learn and get good at djing, if you would like to step up a bit more expensive I would highly recommend the Z1 and X1, they're so portable but yet have so much control. But if you want a f1 on the side, I would say considering using/buying virtual Dj 8. It's great for learning on and it works well with f1's. F1's are mapped for traktor and also work with virtual dj "but" the wego isn't mapped to be used with traktor so I'd say you go and buy virtual Dj pro because then you can use both of your devices. Thanks for the tip, I ended up going with a traktor control s4 and traktor software. Loving it at the moment but still considering adding a X1 to the set up. Does anyone think this is necessary?
if you want to control 4 decks then get an additional z1 and x1 but if you only want to control 2, then the only recommendation i could give is an f1. otherwise you're wasting your money
+Konrad Brennan I'd say no personally, but with my s4 my 2 I use an additional F1 controller. And I'm loving this. Been using s4 for a year now awesome kit 👍🏻🤗

Does anyone know if this work as audio interface like a Focusrite/M-Audio one? For example, to use Ableton Live with its interface (I don't mind if it doesn't have the same specs as a Focusrite one, I just want to know if it will work like that) and use the monitor outputs to listen. Thanks!

Will it work on djay or DJ Player on iOS?
Word, thanks. That's too bad. I ended up going with a new lighting Audio 2 which works with djay and DJ Player as long as you pick up the official NI psw.
One side is output and the other is for cue. The cool thing is that there is a cue/master knob too for people like me who like to mix in headphones.
z1 is not connected with my pc why ?
You're best off posting on the NI forums with that question but you'll have to be a lot more specific than that for help

Bit confused by this video. It presents the Z1 as only of interest to iPhone/iPad users but the single setup example on the NI webpage shows it being used with a laptop and on that page they talk also about Traktor Pro. Seems to me it's basically a basic mixer combined with digital audio interface so it seems just as useful to anybody who is running Traktor on a laptop and that includes Windoze users. No? Am I missing something? Anybody?
MrMikomi no man thats exactly it its a software mixer basically like most people would need a bit more ya know. And of course Traktor pro 2 comes with it

I have downloaded the Z1 with me right now and it doesn't map it self. I know there aren't any drivers to install for mac. Please help me map my mac to the Z1. Help me with the steps of which version of traktor pro to download and what to change in preferences. It will really help me alot.
