On this “On the Hunt” episode I continue to feed my semi-truck addiction looking for potential future projects, despite the fact I’m actively working on restoring three other rusty rigs in my backyard. Found some great trucks but many of them were missing my favorite part of trucking … the standard transmission and clutch. I couldn’t believe how many of these trucks had automatic transmissions … sure hope this isn’t the future of trucking. I’m out there trying to add transmissions to my old trucks and here the manufacturers are taking them out … what a world.
Join me on the walk about of this large industrial auction yard as I take a closer look at potential project candidates from Peterbilt, Kenworth, International, Volvo, Mack, Freightliner, Western Star and even an old classic K100 cabover and I add all the sold prices noted in Canadian $$$. Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions and support!
Subscribe for notifications for future episodes that I do my best to upload new videos weekly on Thursdays and enjoy watching the progress of my #ProjectSnowman 1979 Kenworth W900A Smokey and the Bandit project, the ongoing #LittleByLittle Peterbilt 359 restoration and the upcoming #IronDuke Kenworth K100 cabover I’m planning to build up like the one used in the 70’s trucking movie High Ballin’ with Jerry Reed and Peter Fonda.
Note that for some reason TH-cam set my channel as made for kids awhile back so if you haven’t been getting notifications, just unsubscribe, re-subscribe and hit the bell to ensure you never miss an episode!

I mean yea the clutch is heavy as f, the brakes are slightly questionable but work well enough to pass a COF, and she hardly spends any time in the shop
id call it a win, although I much preferred my old S- line just down to the non cabover design

That thing could barely back across the field we were in and kept stalling out trying to drive over clay lumps so he got in and was pushing buttons to try and get it to work, got so mad, he drove it straight back to the dealer and the next day I was in a brand new one with a proper 18 😂

    I love the K100.
Over here, airbags are called “road friendly suspension” and allow the truck to take a couple of tons more. And no, you don’t need to dump the bags before tipping the load.

We call them Moose bumpers here in Northwestern Ontario. Haha! DEF is awful! You burn way more fuel, can go through a quarter tank quick doing a running burn and in winter you can burn through 3-4 jugs of DEF in half day work, especially if you have an open nose like they recommend for International. Not to mention, it's caustic, comes in a plastic jug, in a cardboard box...... As soon as you flip the PTO on in the new dump trucks, it automatically dumps the air. That is for stability. So you don't flop the truck if unlevel or bag blows... But while the air is dumped, you have less traction... sigh Hahaha!

    • @michaelhendrickson8468
      @michaelhendrickson8468 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The truth is we can run straight pipes in the states, however we need shields as well. If we run straight pipes with no shield in the states and get pulled over by DOT you will be either shut down or fined very much. I’m only stating this because I’ve been there and done it. I literally made them read me the rules because I questioned it too. I have copy’s of it if you don’t believe me. I love the sound of straight pipes on somewhat local trucks and I’ve always run them. Now I still run them but with shields on. Road trucks I have mufflers on and it’s not because of the environment. Maybe this is a pa thing. I can’t say from state to state but I can promise Pennsylvania requires shields over straight pipes. There’s a fine line between state to state.

I understand your opinion on Autos Vs Manuals. Very similar to my dads opinion. He drives a 6 wheeler DAF tipper here in the UK. 16 speed manual which he loves. He did have a temp truck before which was a automatic (he hated it) His line of work requires a lot of low speed maneuvering which is perfect for a manual. Autos are better in trucks that live on the motorway (highway) going from A to B.

the extra snout on the stack of that star car was for a bed heater we use them here in the states hauling coal to heat the bed so it does not freeze up in the nose of the wagon to help aid in not turning the wagon on its side when you stand it up to dump

I posted a comment on another channel that real trucks don't shift themselves, and the haters came runnin'. I'm with you, there's nothing like grabbing your own gears in a pre-emissions truck.

I saw a tri-drive (either a 379 or a late 359) with one of those big raised roof sleepers on it in Alabama. pretty cool truck

That purple Pete is possibly an old Can-Am truck, sold once, now at auction again. Can-Am, a flat deck operator out of Abbotsford BC.

Really enjoy your videos. Great content, skilled editing. Dang fine sense of humour. Curbsniffers suck.

I Went and checked out the trucks at this auction. That k100 was definitely a cool truck. Also looked at that purple Pete.

I've been driving semi since 1994. Beeb driving an automatic since 2018 and would never want to go back to a stick. I'm in stop & go traffic several times a week and sticks suck when dealing with that. Believe it or not, there is a learning curve to an automatic in a semi truck. I drive a Volvo with a VNR-I Shift.
