Legit question, what does pledging to spacedock offer? I was pledged a while ago to get notifications on upcoming episodes but those never materialized, has that changed?
The first arrival to the Ark is a trip. There's this massive thing in the background when the slipspace jump is complete, and the mind reels when trying to comprehend its size and shape.
This also shows just how much of a universal threat the Flood are, if you need to costruct a giant conservation facility that can build galaxy-killing weapons by itself, you got a really big problem.
The Ark is probably my all time favorite megastructure in any sci-fi, followed closely by the Starforge from KotOR. I was so relieved when It wasn't destroyed at the end of Halo 3.

Personally not a fan of the wildlife being there for "preservation". Surely they can reseed life into the galaxy without having to keep living specimens roaming about? Not to mention possible evolution and natural extinction events that would alter the life that they're trying to preserve. Or the fact that a lot of lifeforms aren't suited for life on the installations (at least as far as we know). My personal headcanon has always been that the life on the installations serve a greater purpose. Perhaps they're required for the neurophysics of the installations to function, or to somehow draw energy from.
I thought it was so the forerunner civilization could survive I don’t think they ever put any life on the rings as they realized that was a stupid idea But they did design the capabilities in there Unfortunately the only thing the beautiful landscape had been used for was warfare so
Why are the gravitational issues never really addressed? Even artificial gravity would result in a strange perceived horizon and counterintuitive center of mass.
In terms of scale? Far larger to accommodate the construction of 30,000 km rings as opposed to this Ark's 10,000 km rings. It was destroyed, along with the annihilation of the surviving Forerunner population that managed to flee the galaxy as the Flood had managed to decimate their Capital System and 3 million world Ecumene. The Forerunners who survived the onslaught made their way to 00, and fired Halo.
@@Impartial_Sojourner For some reason I kinda wish some of the greater ark is still intact, and that it wasn't completely ripped to shreds. It would be so cool to have a scene in a game or show where someone drops out of slipspace and the ship passes by the wreckage of the forerunner and flood fleets, only to have a colossal partially intact greater ark come into view, along with the remains of some of the massive original halo rings. That would be an awesome sight to see, even if it may not be cannon. I guess Matherillian wasn't truly/fully destroyed so this scene may be possible with that place instead of the greater ark. I really just want a cannon look for the greater ark, like how we relatively recently got a cannon design for Offensive Bias.

What I dislike about the ark is that it needs to use space-magic artificial gravity, while the halo rings don't by design.
