Speaking of Greek losses during WW2, I believe around 500,000 Greeks died, whether they were soldiers/resistance fighters or innocent civilians killed by numerous war crimes during the occupation. That's about 7% of their population at that time, roughly 7 mil.

@@_jpg The massive helot population was the exact reason Spartan society was able to create such a legendary military culture. Turns out when you have slaves to do literally everything you can spend most of your time training for combat.
And since it sounds like you're making a ethical argument, a friendly reminder that out of all Greek city states, the Spartans were by far the ones that treated their women as equals in society (or at least as close as possible back then), often being the holders of land and property. On the other end, Athens, the great democracy, treated their women like walking uterus's that were owned by their male husbands and family members.

Am I the only one who genuinely enjoys the Greek focus tree? Both the byzantine and regular fascist path are very fun, plus all the focuses in the center give you insane buffs. The regular fascist path in particular is super fun, you can join the axis and eventually form Greater Greece.
they are all actually super fun. no idea why isp has a chip on his shoulder about it. haven't really heard anyone but him hate on it as hard as he does. its legit probably my favorite focus tree.
Metaxas path is fucking Great
The only thing I particularly dislike about it is that it's short (especially when compared to Turkey's, which didn't even participate in WW2 until the last 2 seconds) and that the three military foci at the end need you to become the Byzantine empire, so unless you go down that path they're left there taunting you.

greece can actually get a pretty solid industry even with zero expansion. manpower is rough without the formables, but literally every path gets you something you can use to do something about that.

same, never understood isp's hate boner for it. its probably my favorite focus tree. alot are messy or dont actually have much going on despite their huge size. but greece is perfect.

The absolute worst choice in Turkey's focus tree is waiting for your starting leader to die without finishing the Ratify the Six Arrows focus which gets you an event to get the Caliph back as a leader and you end up being locked out of the rest of your focus tree

Fun fact: Greece was the only country on the allies to fight 4 armies at the same time and gave the first allied victory against the axis
not to mention so called great power of the time like france lasted only 6 weeks against 1 army. meanwhile the whole of europe rolled up on "little" greece and it lasted 216 days. if greece had the land mass, and population of the soviet union, war probably would have ended in 43 lol.
personally my favorite factoid about the war in greece is that they captured so many italian tanks that they formed a separate tank core just for them. whole greek tank core of just captured tanks

My first game on HoI4 was playing Greece and I actually enjoyed myself a lot. Played it for over a real-world year.
(I found quite a few bugs with the Greece focus tree too, and reported them to Paradox, but they never got fixed… 😕)

Paradox balance, do not question is, they changed how USSR create their divisions, which means they are all weak tissue paper, I have never seen USSR make anything bigger than 24 width.

The industry part of the Greek focus tree makes it good by itself. Let alone the options for expanding. You can basically core the entire Eastern Roman Empire’s lands and vassals via the focus tree and decisions.

Suggestion: “Island Exiles” - goal would be to see which nations can be reduce to an “isolated, miserable” island somewhere in the world. Brits to South Georgia, France to the “Saint Paul and Amsterdam Islands” (are they even in the game?), Canada to Haida Gwaii, and USA to Hawaii or Guam or Kodiak Island maybe. You could handle it a number of different fun ways - meme it up - and the good thing might be that it’s not necessarily open-ended.

ive played every path, and i have fun with all of them. Greece is probably my favorite nation to play overall aside from Hungary (but only reforming Austria-Hungary) and Estonia. never really understood why isp hates the focus tree so much. turkey i get, lots of dumb stuff, but Greece is great.
